The importance of the prayer in Islam cannot be simplified.
It is a main pillar of Islam
And obligatory upon each Muslim.
Once a man asked the Prophet about the most virtuous
deed. The Prophet stated that the most virtuous deed is
the prayer. The man asked again and again. The first three
times, the Prophet again answered, "The prayer," then on
the fourth occasion he stated, "Jihad in the way of Allah."
[This is form a hadith recorded by Ahmad and ibn Hibban.
According to al-Albani, the hadith is hasan. Muhammad Nasir al-
Din al-Albani, Sahih al-Targheeb wa al-Tarheeb (Beirut: al-
Maktab al-Islami, 1982), vol. 1, p. 150]
Our Prophet said:
"The first matter that the slave will be brought to account for
on the Day of Judgment is the prayer. If it is sound, then the
rest of his deeds will be sound. And if it is bad, then the rest of
his deeds will be bad." [Recorded by al-Tabarani. According to al-
Albani, it is sahih. Al-Albani, Sahih al-Jami, vol.1, p. 503].
The prayers are a type of purification for a human being. He
turns and meets with his Lord five times a day. This repeated
standing in front of Allah should keep the person from
performing sins during the day. Furthermore, it should also
be a time of remorse and repentance. In addition, the prayer
in itself is a good deed that wipes away some of the evil
deeds that he performed. These points can be noted in the
following Hadith of the Prophet
"If a person had a stream outside his door and he bathed in it
five times a day, do you think he would have any filth left on
him?" The people said, "No filth would remain on him
whatsoever." The Prophet then said, "That is like the five
daily prayers: Allah wipes away the sins by them." (Recorded
by al-Bukhari and Muslim.)
In another Hadith, Prophet said:
"The five daily prayers and the Friday Prayer until the Friday
prayer are expiation for what is between them." [Reported by
Muslim]

"Verily, the prayer keeps one from the great sins and evil
deeds" (Qura’n 29: 45).
Do we like anybody calling us a kafir?
Never !!
If anyone call us a kafir, surely, we will get heated.
Remember:
Prophet says that omitting prayer is kufr.
Are we satisfied with performing prayer alone in our home/ work place?
But we have no choice to keep away from congregation (jama’ath) without
indisputable reason.

What you think of a man saying his boss that he would do his office work in
home and would come to office only once in a week.

How long his name will be there in the office register?

Would his boss be satisfied with his performance?
Can he expect the salary from the company?

Allah ordered us to perform 5 time payer in mazjid (congregation)

But we ourselves are satisfied with performing prayer alone and
Try to find silly excuses.
Allah says:

‫ان اصلة كانت على المؤمنين كتابا موقوتا‬

“The Salat is a prescribed duty that should be

performed at appointed times by the believers”
(Quran 4:103)

‫فويل للمصلين* اللدين هم عن صلتهم ساهون‬

“So woe to the worshippers. Who are neglectful of

their Prayers” (Quran 107:4-5)
Allah's Apostle said, "If the people knew the reward for
pronouncing the Adhan and for standing in the first row (in
congregational prayers) and found no other way to get that
except by drawing lots they would draw lots, and if they knew
the reward of the Zuhr prayer (in the early moments of its
stated time) they would race for it (go early) and if they knew
the reward of 'Isha' and Fajr (morning) prayers in congregation,
they would come to offer them even if they had to crawl."
[Narrated Abu Huraira: Volume 1, Book 11, Number 589]
Allah's Apostle said, "The reward of the prayer offered by a
person in congregation is twenty five times greater than that of
the prayer offered in one's house or in the market (alone). And
this is because if he performs ablution and does it perfectly and
then proceeds to the mosque with the sole intention of praying,
then for every step he takes towards the mosque, he is
upgraded one degree in reward and his one sin is taken off
(crossed out) from his accounts (of deeds). When he offers his
prayer, the angels keep on asking Allah's Blessings and Allah's
forgiveness for him as long as he is (staying) at his Musalla. They
say, 'O Allah! Bestow Your blessings upon him, be Merciful and
kind to him.' And one is regarded in prayer as long as one is
waiting for the prayer." [Narrated Abu Huraira: Volume 1, Book
11, Number 620]
Abu ad-Darda' reports that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu
alehi wasallam said: "If there are three men in a village or
desert and salah is not established among them, then the
Satan takes mastery over them. So be with the congregation
since the wolf devours the remote (stray) sheep."
The Prophet Said, “The prayer in congregation is twenty seven
timed superior to the prayer offered person alone” [1:618
Narrated by Abdulla bin Umar]
The Prophet , himself never omitted even a single
congregational prayer. Even in his sickness, it was strenuous for
him to walk; nonetheless, with the aid of two of his companions
he came (while his auspicious feet were dragging on the ground)
to the mosque and prayed with the congregation.
Once the Holy Prophet was constrained to say: “I intend to
tell the Muaddin (person who calls the Azaan) to call out the
takbir and ask someone to lead the prayer and I myself set the
house of that person on fire who did not attended the
congregational prayer.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

See, The merciful Prophet proposes a punishment for those who

do not attend the congregational prayer at the mosque, even
though they perform them at home.
Performing Prayer on time is not an extra qualification of
a Muslim. Instead it is the basic minimum requirement to
have a membership in Islam.
 Prayer is the second basic element of Islam.
 It is the first thing to be asked about on the day of
resurrection.
 If prayer is accepted then all our work will be accepted and if
it is not accepted all our work will be fruitless.
 Those who preserves prayer preserves his religion, and those
who abandons it loses his religion.
 Texts declare that who abandons prayer is a disbeliever.
 Congregation prayer is compulsory upon each Muslim.
 If we are not punctual with our prayers, Allah won’t consider
us as a Muslim.
“Recite what is sent of the Book by inspiration to you,
and establish regular prayer: for prayer restrains
from shameful and unjust deeds; and remembrance
of Allah is the greatest (thing in life) without doubt.
And Allah knows the (deeds) that you do”
(Qur’an 29:45)
‫اللهم أجعلنا من الذين هم على صلتهم دائمون‬
‫ومن الذين هم على صلتهم يحافظون‬
‫ومن الذين هم في صلتهم خاشعون‬
