Selection of shot peening machine

Shot peening by centrifugal wheel Vab = f ( n, d ) n d = speed of centrifugal wheel = diameter of centrifugal wheel

Shot peening by compressed air Vab = f ( p, d ) p d = air pressure at nozzle = diameter of nozzle

Compressed air or centrifugal wheel?
For the selection of a suitable shot peening machine the size, shape, material, surface finish, production rate and value of parts, kind of loads, required distribution of residual stress, quality, process control and security, intensity, shot peening media and economic batch size have to be considered. The nozzle shot peening machine powered by compressed air can be easy adapted to each part and to each job. Shot peening of holes and selected areas, with glass beads and other brittle media, with different intensities, at a small production rate or of large components can only be shot peened in a nozzle shot peening machine or apparatus. Tests of nozzle shot peening machine powered by compressed air compared with a shot peening machine utilizing centrifugal accelaration shows some remarkable differences (see pages 53 – 57). We recommend: As well as necessary and not as well as possible.
