Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.

Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. -Martin L King Jr The more I look at the corruption and decadence in our land it's politics, the greed and selfishness we all see and experience daily. The more it threatens to challenge my faith in the sense that I wonder if our prayers can really turn this nation around or even our environment, seeing that the church itself has not been immune in any significant way to the effects of our culture and our mind set. Looking at scripture critically, especially with the unique perspective of Martin Luther King Jr stated above, creates a much needed paradigm shift which best illustrates what I believe is God’s perspective in these matters. Interestingly I recall a statement I heard from a popular medical practitioner and campaigner about alternative health solutions which I can safely paraphrase as " headaches are not caused by the absence of panadol." In other words there is something else behind the pain which needs to be addressed rather than this temporary band aid. Rick Warren explains that the biblical term for “Changing Your Mind” Is “Repentance.” Rick explains: "What do most people think of when I say the word “repent”? They think of a guy on the street corner with a sandwich sign saying, “Turn or burn. You’re going to die and fry while we go to the sky.” They think of some kook. But the word “repentance” is a wonderful word—metanoia—which means in Greek “to change your mind.” Repentance is just changing the way we think about something by accepting the way God thinks about it. That’s all repentance is. The new words for repentance are “paradigm shift.” Pastors, we are in the paradigmshifting business. We are in the repentance business. We are about changing peoples’ minds at the deepest level—the level of belief and values. To bring this home A. W. Pink Says "To suggest that God was caught by surprise in the Garden of Eden and that now He is attempting to fix an unforeseen mishap is to disgrace the Most High and put Him on the level of a finite, mistake-prone mortal. To argue that man is a free moral agent and the maker of his own destiny with the power to checkmate his maker, is to strip God of His omnipotence.” I strongly believe and I am convinced that we are spending too much energy, power and prayers trying to push back the darkness rather than turning on the light. I truly believe that our expectation for bad people to become good particularly overnight is not more likely than God replacing evil men with good men. Our God’s answer to sin and corruption in man is death, thank God Christ died in our stead and we do not have to pay that price but that does not diminish his judgement of it. The solution to sin is righteousness and the solution to fear is faith Proverbs 14:34

Isn't it amazing that they have been worshipping and praising God without asking Him to stop the persecution or kill the persecutors? It is even more amazing that when they do finally ask for specific help from God that they ask for grace to boldly keep on preaching the very same message that got them into trouble in the first place.
