Do you need automated management of your desktop environment, supported by industry experts?
• software distribution is resource intensive, slow and expensive? • cumbersome patch management means you are unnecessarily vulnerable to security threats? • managing remote and mobile clients is becoming more and more of a challenge? • demonstrating compliance with industry standards is increasingly difficult?
Or if you’re already using SMS2003, are you upgrading to ConfigMgr because you:
• need to extend systems management to Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008? • find SMS 2003 patch management processes difficult to work with? • lack in-house skills and resources to efficiently migrate? • are concerned that mainstream support for SMS 2003 has come to an end?
With the constant flux of mobile devices, new operating systems, upgrades and the need for visibility and compliance across today’s dynamic IT infrastructures, comes the need for comprehensive, knowledgebased, configuration management. Through streamlined, policy-based automation, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (ConfigMgr) provides powerful capabilities to enable you to assess, deploy and update your clients, servers and mobile devices across IT systems in physical, virtual and distributed environments. But whether you’re deploying ConfigMgr as your first systems management solution or upgrading from an existing platform, you need impartial advice and guidance from trusted industry experts. 1E Systems Management Services ensure that your transition to ConfigMgr can be completed rapidly, reliably and to a predefined timescale. Our tried-and-tested framework covers four elements, a Readiness Assessment, followed by Preparation, Pilot and Deployment stages. Each of these elements can be delivered standalone, to give you complete freedom and flexibility, or delivered together to build into a comprehensive solution for your ConfigMgr deployment.
Readiness Assessment (5 days)
Our fixed-price Readiness Assessment actually comprises a series of one-day workshops, each designed to assess your current environment, processes and requirements, and results in a mutually agreed Statement of Work. Every Readiness Assessment begins with a comprehensive overview of ConfigMgr and its new features, before we move on to review your current environment and processes, to agree your requirements and to record any key deliverables. If you are upgrading from SMS 2003, we will review your existing deployment, then discuss the migration options available to you; if this is your first systems management solution, we will review your current applications and Operating Systems, before discussing your client implementation options and any training needs you may have. As part of the Readiness Assessment we will also suggest additional software or solutions that will satisfy any requirements that aren’t addressed by ConfigMgr. At the end of the Readiness Assessment you will receive a high level suggested design which will include our planned high level approach to your ConfigMgr migration or deployment and an indication of any additional infrastructure that may be required. We will also provide a Statement of Work covering realistic project and deployment timescales and costings.
“1E works to a very refreshing business model. Its unique make up of technical consultants make the company very efficient and so easy to work with; its technical excellence and skills transfer have ensured that we have the in-house skills to maintain and manage the network once 1E completes its work. 1E has proven that it is the people that make a project happen, not just systems and processes.” Paul Morley, British Sugar
Preparation (from 10 days)
Preparation is the key to any successful ConfigMgr deployment, so once your Readiness Assessment is complete and you have accepted the Statement of Work, we will begin to develop a paper-based design. Work now saves time later, so this phase includes a detailed design exercise, building on our suggested high level design to specify both software and hardware components, client configuration and server build processes. We will also conduct an operational planning exercise to define all the necessary procedures for operation of your ConfigMgr solution, publishing a set of draft Standard Operating Procedures. If you are upgrading from SMS 2003, we will also develop a detailed migration plan. 1E will then conduct a thorough test and validation phase, reviewing the documented design and operational procedures in a test lab developed to simulate your production environment as closely as possible. On completion, we will seek your approval that the testing has been satisfactorily completed and has adequately proven that the solution meets your requirements before moving to the pilot phase.
Pilot (from 5 days)
Once the Preparation phase is complete, you’ll be ready to Pilot your ConfigMgr deployment. Our consultants will help your project team prepare for and then complete a production pilot deployment to confirm that the solution behaves as expected. Inevitable differences between the test lab and production environment may identify further matters which need to be addressed before the solution is fully deployed, but 1E will remain on hand to assist with resolution. During the pilot stage, core infrastructure will be implemented and verified as functional before client deployment commences to the agreed pilot client base. Following completion of the pilot, 1E will conduct a review workshop, providing you with a detailed, written report to record any issues identified during the pilot and how they were addressed. Where appropriate we will also ensure the project has met with the technical and business requirements that were identified in the original Readiness Assessment and subsequent Preparation phases.
Deployment (from 5 days)
Once the Pilot is complete, you’ll be ready for a more aggressive roll-out. Throughout this final phase we will maintain a hands-on approach - guiding, assisting and recommending as required - to ensure your deployment goes as smoothly as possible. In order to support the handover, further guidance may be provided to your administration and support staff where required, complimenting the training and technical skills transfer that has taken place during the previous phases. If we have used 1E products as part of your deployment, we will take this opportunity to ensure you are well placed to manage them going forward. Last, but by no means least, we will undertake a joint project review to ensure that your ConfigMgr deployment has met the technical and business requirements that were identified at the start of the engagement. As part of our commitment to customer success, we always revisit customers around six months after the completion of any project, for a lessons learned follow-up session to ensure you are getting the most out of your investment in ConfigMgr.
