EXPERIMENT 3(A)

Date: 12/03/2021
AIM- To study the field patterns of an E-plane-Tee waveguide.
SOFTWARE - CST Software
THEORY
It is called an E-type T junction because the junction arm, i.e. the top of the "T" extends from
the main waveguide in the same direction as the E field. It is characterized by the fact that the
outputs of this form of waveguide junction are 180° out of phase with each other.
The basic construction of the waveguide junction shows the three port waveguide device.
Although it may be assumed that the input is the single port and the two outputs are those on
the top section of the "T", actually any port can be used as the input, the other two being outputs.

To see how the waveguide junction operates, and how the 180° phase shift occurs, it is
necessary to look at the electric field. The magnetic field is omitted from the diagram for
simplicity.

PROCEDURE
Step 1: Create a rectangular waveguide by selecting box structure and configuring it with the
assumed dimensions. Dimensions must be set such that the waveguide is aligned centrally. Z-
axis is by default assumed as the propagation direction. Use any conductive material for the
structure.

Step 2: Create another rectangular structure with dimensions along X and Y axis having
length 1mm less than the previously created rectangle on each edge. Use any conductive
material for the structure.

Step 3: Subtract the outer rectangle (having larger dimension) from the inner rectangle
(having smaller dimension).

Step 4: Create a rectangular waveguide by selecting box structure and configuring it with the
assumed dimensions. Dimensions must be set such that the waveguide is aligned centrally.
The rectangular structure should be perpendicular to the base waveguide. Use any conductive
material for the structure.

Step 5: Create another rectangular structure with dimensions along X and Y axis having
length 1mm less than the previously created rectangle on each edge. Use any conductive
material for the structure.

Step 6: Subtract the outer rectangle (having larger dimension) from the inner rectangle
(having smaller dimension).

Step 7: Pick face from each side of the waveguide and define waveguide port for the same
taking twice the dimensions along x and y-axis with reference to the outer structure.
Step 8: Define field monitors for different frequencies calculated for different modes of both
E-field and H-field.

Step 9: Use setup solver to start calculation and simulation.

Step 10: Study the results obtained from S-parameter and field plots for E-field and H-field.

CONCLUSION
Hence in this experiment we successfully implemented an E plane Tee
waveguide. Using the CST software we simulated the waveguide and observed
the s parameters and the E field patterns.
