PFAW Florida Signing FOIA Request - May 24 2021
VIA E-MAIL
I am writing to follow up on our May 7 open records request concerning all records that relate to your signing
of Senate Bill 90 on May 6 at an event at Club 45 in West Palm Beach from which all media—including The
FLORIDA Channel, the state’s taxpayer-funded television channel of record—were excluded, with the sole
exception of the Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” program. We received an email receipt from your office
on May 7, but have heard nothing since, despite calling your office several times over the past several weeks.
Our request is not burdensome and is clearly limited in scope, but to make it even more clear, we hereby state
specifically that you need only look for records during the period between April 1 and May 7, 2021.
As you know, Florida’s open records law creates a mandatory right to access to public records and, as the
Attorney General’s office has acknowledged, Florida’s courts “have consistently supported the public’s right to
access to government meetings and records.” Particularly in light of the continuing public interest in this issue,
if we do not hear from your office within the next week, we will have no choice but to pursue legal action to
ensure that you comply with Florida law and our request. If you have any questions, please contact PFAW
senior counsel Elliot Mincberg at emincberg@pfaw.org.
Sincerely,
Adele-M. Stan
