easytip 4 Operating Instructions

Congratulations on purchasing this high performance easytip 4

universal infrared remote control. Great care has been taken over
the design and manufacture of this product and in normal use it
will give many years of satisfactory service. The following pages
describe how to get the best from your new remote, but if in doubt
please contact our telephone HELPLINE .

About your easytip 4

The easytip 4 is frequently used to replace a single remote

controller that has been damaged or lost. However, your new
easytip 4 has the ability to control up to four different devices
such as TV, VCR, SATELLITE plus AUX for additional devises.
Your easytip 4 will control all of the core functions found on any
of the original remote controllers. This means that you can, if you
wish, put away all of your original controllers and use only one -
the easytip 4.

How do remote controllers work?

When you press any button on a controller, it sends a command

to the device being controlled, using an infrared beam. At the
front of this command is a 3-number code, which is unique to that
particular unit. This means that when you point a controller at the
TV, for example, the VCR will not respond! To set up your
easytip 4, so that your various devices can be controlled by it,
requires that these unique 3-number codes are programmed into
the easytip 4.

The 5 Second Rule

Your new easytip 4 needs your help to get started.

We recommend that you study the step by step instructions

before programming the codes. The basis of this programming
is the 5 Second Rule. Each successive action when
programming must be completed within 5 seconds or the unit will
revert back to normal operation. This is deliberate so that other
users of your remote will not inadvertently reprogram the unit.

Inserting and changing the batteries

Your easytip 4 is powered by two alkaline 1.5 V batteries (IEC LR

03, AAA). Wherever possible, ensure that new batteries are
used. Never mix old and new batteries together as this will effect
the performance of the controller and shorten the battery life.

Please Note:
Insert the batteries following the markings inside the battery
compartment.
Immediately dispose of any leaking batteries.
Dispose old batteries as per manufacturers instruction.

Testing the Controller for Operation

Once the batteries have been inserted, press any of the buttons
to ensure that the Red LED flashes; this confirms correct
installation of the batteries. If for any reason there is no response
from the controller then check the battery installation or the
condition of the batteries. If during its life the easytip 4 operating
range diminishes then the batteries may need replacing. Your
easytip 4 controller has an inbuilt special feature which allows
you to change batteries without losing pre-programmed
information, however, do not touch any of the controls during
battery exchange or pre-programmed date will be lost.

How to program your easytip 4

In the back pages of this manual you will find the 3-number codes
which allow you to set-up your easytip 4 controller.

Each manufacturer utilises different codes for different models

within their range, therefore it is important to select the correct
code for your particular TV, Satellite, VCR etc. After finding the
manufacturer of your TV or other appliance in the manual, you
will see alongside several 3-number codes. You should start with
the first 3-number code in the list. If after programming this first
3-number code your easytip 4 does not operate, then move to
the next 3-number code in the list.

Before starting, make a note of all the codes for the appliances
you wish to control with your easytip 4 so that they are easily to
hand while you are doing the programming.

 Please re-check the 3-number code in the manual or
restart Item 5 completing the programming within the
allotted time.

VCR Programming

The programming procedure for controlling the VCR is very

similar to the Quick Set-up Reference TV example above,
however, instead of pressing the TV selector button – see step 4
of the Quick Set-Up Reference - choose the appropriate VCR
button at the top of the controller and follow the procedure from
step 5 referring to the codes marked VCR in the back of this
manual.

SATELLITE (or Cable) Programming

The programming procedure for controlling the Satellite is similar

to the TV example above, however, instead of pressing the TV
selector button – see step 4 of the Quick Set-Up Reference -
choose the appropriate SAT button at the top of the controller and
follow the through the procedure using the 3-number codes for
your make of satellite equipment in the SATELLITE section at the
back of this manual.

AUX Programming

The Aux. button allows you to setup additional TV’s, Sat, VCR so
that 2 devices can be controlled from the one controller.
Depending on the type of equipment to be controlled by the
easytip 4, use the relevant instructions above. You will find the
correct 3-number code from the appropriate section (TV, VCR,
Sat) at the back of this manual.

Step 1 Switch on the TV, VCR or Satellite to be controlled

(fully on with a broadcast picture on the screen).
Step 2 Press and hold the AUX down until the LED flashes
twice in quick succession.
Step 3 Immediately after, remove your finger from the AUX key

Programming the easytip 4 in Automatic mode

If the listed codes failed to operate the TV, or if your TV was not
included in the manual, it is possible to enter into automatic
search mode. Automatic mode allows the controller to search and
test every code in the manual. As there are many codes for the
controller to select and test, automatic mode will take several
minutes to perform.

How to Enter Codes in Automatic Mode

First turn the TV on so that it is displaying a broadcast picture.

Without direct input from the controller some TVs may enter into
standby mode. If this happens check the manufacturers
operating manual to find out how to start the TV without the use of
a controller. Many TV's can be started by turning the set off and
on at the mains, others may be started by pressing control
buttons often found behind concealed panels

Programming the TV by Automatic Mode

Step 1 Press and hold the TV button on your easytip 4

controller until the LED flashes twice
Step 2 Now input the code 001 (within 5 seconds), the LED will
flash twice; this alerts you that the controller is set to
enter automatic search mode.
Step 3 Immediately after the LED has flashed twice (and within
5 seconds) press and hold the Power ON / OFF key;
this will start the automatic search process. During the
automatic search the LED will flash every second or so,
this is confirmation that the controller is checking and
testing each successive code in its database. Once the
correct code has been found your TV set will
automatically turn off. After that push the TV key again
until the LED flashes twice. Now the code is stored at
your controller. Failure to remove your finger from the
Power ON / OFF button after the TV set has switched
off will result in the controller skipping to the next code
in the list
Note: It is possible to remove your finger from the controller
for a maximum of 10 seconds during automatic search.
If left any longer the unit will blink twice confirming that
automatic mode has be halted and that no codes were
found. If you replace your finger within the 10 second
period then automatic search is resumed.

HELPLINE 0845-6021348
Changing the direction of the search when in
automatic mode:

It is possible, in Automatic Search Mode, to skip over the relevant

code by mistake. In this case, you can reverse the direction of the
search for a maximum of 5 codes by pressing the VOL ( - ) key.
After 5 codes the search direction changes back automatically. If
you want, you can press the VOL ( + ) key to change back to the
original search direction.

Programming the VCR by Automatic Mode

First insert a video cassette into your VCR and push the play key
on your VCR, then follow the TV example above, however,
instead of using the Power ON / OFF key, please use the STOP
key.

Programming the SAT by Automatic Mode

Follow the TV example above but select the Satellite button

instead of the TV button.

ATTENTION!
Code search begins from the last code number found in the
previous search. When the end of the code list is reached the
LED will flash 3 times. The search is then repeated from the
beginning. Please be patient, there may be many codes for your
TV to search and test before finding the correct one. At the AUX
level there is no possibility to run automatic mode!

Determining the 3-number code (TV, VCR or SAT)

found by automatic programming.

It is useful to know which code your TV, VCR, Sat responded to

in case it is inadvertently changed at a later date.

Step 1 Select the Item you wish to check (TV, VCR, Sat)
Step 2 Press and hold the chosen button on your easytip 4
controller until the LED flashes twice
Step 3 Within the next 5 second input the code 002, this alerts
the controller to provide its programmed code settings.
Step 4 After entering the code the LED will Flash twice
confirming your choice. Immediately after, press the
numeric keys 1,2,or 3 on the keypad.

HELPLINE 0845-6021348
Step 5 Each successive number will induce the LED to flash its
internal code number, for example, if after pressing key
1 on the keypad the LED flashes 3 times, then the initial
part of the 3 digit code is 3. By immediately pressing
key 2 on the keypad the LED flash according to the next
number of the code, the same applies to key 3. If no
flash occurs, then the code number is 0 (zero). Finally
you will have the full code. There is no need to hurry, if
you misscount the number of flashes then you can
press the key once more. Provided you keep pressing
the 1, 2 & 3 keys within a 5 second period the remote
will continue to flash the code number. If no buttons are
pressed for 5 seconds then the remote returns to
normal function.

Make a note of your 3-digit code numbers.

Devise Make Code No.
