Planet Maths has been developed by a team of experienced primary teachers and Maths consultants in accordance with
the aims and objectives of the revised Primary School Curriculum and the accompanying Teacher Guidelines. Curriculum
Strands, Strand Units and Objectives are detailed throughout.

The series underpins the key areas of:

‡use of concrete materials

‡estimation
‡written computation
‡integration with other subjects

Planet Maths is a creative new maths series that aims to provide children with challenging activities and enjoyable
mathematical experiences to help them become confident mathematicians.

Poster pages
The purpose of the five double-page Poster Pages in the book is to introduce or revise a strand or strand unit(s) through
talk and discussion. More formal engagement with the strand or strand unit(s) will follow at a later stage.

For ease of use, the Maths Curriculum strands are colour coded as follows:

EMA TEAL Shape and Space PURPLE

Measures GREEN Data RED
Number BLUE Algebra ORANGE

The Teacher’s Manual accompanying this textbook includes:

‡A guide providing comprehensive suggestions on how to make the best use of this series;
‡Oral and mental maths activity suggestions;
‡Maths language relevant to each topic;
‡Suggestions for using concrete materials and manipulatives,
‡Photocopiable activities for differentiation and extension exercises;
‡Photocopiable templates for practice and repetition of fundamental concepts;
‡Answers;
‡Assessment sheets;
‡Individual student profile sheets;
