What the Pro’s say about Badger Daylighting
Badger Daylighting is North America’s largest hydrovac excavation service provider. Badger designs and builds the Badger Hydrovac System at its 52,000 square foot manufacturing facility, and delivers the service through a network of more than 70 local offices across the United States & Canada. This Design-Build-Deliver formula creates a virtuous cycle whereby the Badger Hydrovac System is continually improved. The productivity and safety enhancements gained in this process enable Badger to add the most value to your projects. “On behalf of the M.C. Dean team at the Walter Reed Medical Center, I would like to extend our thanks for the safe, speedy and professional operation provided by you and your team. It made a difficult excavation go without any problems. In the future I will consider Badger first for any excavation that requires precision and speed.” Walt Rampey, M.C. Dean “We conduct utility daylighting during the detailed design stage of projects because it eliminates any surprises when the job goes to construction. Badger provides a very reasonable rate, a high quality of work, and the jobs always run smoothly. Their commitment to safety is to be commended as URS is a very safety oriented firm. I’m not sure we could find a hydrovac service that provides better value.” Larry Lamontagne, URS Consulting Engineers “We use hydrovacs because our customers require it more and more, and it’s simply a safer work practice. We choose to use Badger because they provide better service, and deliver better on-site production than other vac trucks.” Dave Rutherford, R&B Construction “I want to thank you for the excellent job that Badger performed for us in locating our site utilities. Your men and equipment were on time, properly equipped, and worked in a safe manner. It took Badger mere minutes to find utilities that would have taken other vacuum excavators hours to find. I was quite impressed and look forward to using your services again.” David Lindstrom, Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. “Hydrovacs allow us to perform work without damaging any buried utilities, therefore ensuring a safe and efficient work procedure. We use Badger because they have an extensive fleet with many geographical locations, which equates to superior service. Badger’s quick and efficient response time coupled with a hydrovac that has superior strength saves us money in the end.” Neil Waugh, Link Line Group of Companies “While trying to figure out the best method to use for a tricky job, someone mentioned Badger to me. I said “what do they do”? Well, 48 hours later I found out what they did and trust me, it works. We have now built a relationship with them where they do almost all of our challenging excavation work, whether it be in a trench or inside a building. If you’re into making your job go smoother, then try them, you will love them.” Tim Reese, Centerline Development

In the days before electronic line detection was available, pipeline crews would walk the right-of-way looking for badger holes in an effort to locate the pipe. Badgers would burrow down and build their den around a pipeline, taking advantage of the heat emanating from the pipe. Thus, when crews wanted to locate a buried pipeline, they would simply look for badger holes.

The Utility Excavation Challenge:
“Safety” is not a buzzword and Damage Prevention is not a fad. These are critical issues, and they are especially important when considering the incredible amount of work that is done around buried pipelines and utilities. Beneath the soil lays a complex maze of facilities carrying petroleum products, electricity, water, wastewater, natural gas, and communications. Every single day incidents occur across the country that leave utilities damaged, property destroyed, and sometimes, lives lost. Most companies who work around buried facilities fully understand the risks involved. But solutions are not always simple. The challenge faced by most contractors and facility owners is: How does one work safely in today’s congested underground – while remaining both efficient and productive?
Why Customers Choose Badger: Safety
The Badger Hydrovac System has been designed from the ground up for safe excavating. Tolerance testing has been completed on a wide variety of pipes and cables, and the results of those tests form the basis of the Badger Hydrovac safe operation procedures. Our industry-leading health and safety program meets the requirements set by major oil and gas companies and large utilities, and provides crews with the guidance to complete the work without incident. Having completed our due diligence, Badger is able to provide customers with the added assurance that work will be done on time, and without incident.
The Badger Hydrovac System incorporates many unique features to achieve safety and performance beyond other types of vacuum excavators. Our invaluable field experience provides Badger with a steady flow of ideas for improving both the efficiency and safety of the system. As a result, Badger’s trucks deliver the highest excavating efficiency, far surpassing the productivity of trailer units, industrial cleaning units or sewer flushing trucks. The Badger productivity boost can help you save valuable time on your next project.
Badger hydrovacs have the capability to excavate at a distance of more than 400 feet from the truck, enabling crews to work in areas with limited access. Whether inside a building, or in a backyard, Badgers have the versatility to get to where the work is done. Designed for extreme winter conditions, Badger hydrovacs can excavate through any depth of frozen ground. Our hydrovacs key components are protected and heated, while a coiled heater produces hot water for liquefying frozen ground.
The Hydrovac Excavation Solution:
Badger is one solution changing the way companies approach the dangers of underground construction. Hydrovac excavation is becoming an increasingly common sight on utility install and maintenance projects, as are the terms “potholing” and “daylighting”. The hydrovac excavation process safely exposes buried utility lines to daylight – hence the term “daylighting”. Badgers use pressurized water to break up the soil cover. As the ground is precisely excavated, a powerful vacuum system simultaneously removes the debris and pulls it into a large capacity storage tank onboard the truck. The Badger Hydrovac System delivers a powerful combination of finesse and speed; it is safe to use around even the most sensitive buried utilities, and has been tested as being ten times faster than hand excavation.
