ESSAY

The two maps demonstrate/show case/illustrate/ the changes which/that occurred in the city of X
between 1980 and 2005.

In general, it appears that this city experienced/underwent/went through a period of rapid

development, transforming itself from a largely rural to a more urban and modern landscape,
with/including additional industrial and civilian/comminity facilities.

First and foremost/At first glance/, this region may/can be geographically divided into two
halves/parts, North and South sides, by (a natural barrier being) River Alanah. In the earlier
years/In 1980, both sides are primarily covered with abundant woodland/heavily forested/
predominant tree coverage/ but the trees were then cut down to make way for further
construction. In particular, the Southwest area had its entire tree population removed and built
several factories and warehouses instead, whereas Southeastern neighbourhoods and woods were
demolished to construct new skyscrapers.

On the other side (of the city), the same trend followed as the woodlands surrounding the lake
were mostly/primarily replaced with a park and parking spaces, and the lake itself was opened
for kayaking in addition to swimming and fishing previously. Another notable feature is that a
new stadium was erected in the Northeast as well as a parking lot next to it after the
demolishment knocking down the initial residential complex/area. Lastly, the railways on the
East coast was expanded to run along the city and a new marina was established/opened, just a
small distance off the seashore/coast.
