Background of the Study

Recycling has always been a matter of helping the environment and for economic reasons. Recycling is the process of re-using a given product beyond its intended use. It can also produce a new products from a recycable material. Recycling is a key

component of modern waste reduction and is the third component of the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" waste hierarchy. The process of recycling has been around for thousands of years. During historic times, as early as 400 BC (and even earlier), people have been recycling. An archaeological evidence indicates that glasses from the imperial Byzantine times were being recycled in the ancient city of Sagalassos, located in current day Turkey. There is also evidence that early Romans recycled bronze coins into statues that could be sold at a higher monetary value than the original coins. In hard times like war, metals like jewelry and coins were being melted for weapons or other necessary goods. Pottery recycling operations have been uncovered as well.

In Britain. anytime there was a massive economic slump. dust and ash from wood and coal fires were being down cycled as a base material in brick making. Nonetheless. people reused and recycled materials because they could not afford to buy news items or acquire virgin materials. During these times in the history of recycling was mainly motivated by the economic benefits of using recycled feedstock instead of virgin material. The history of recycling took a turn during the times of industrialization. recyclable materials were recycled into new items since it was generally cheaper to reuse them than buying new ones. When materials did become worn beyond further use. An example. . we would all be covered in leaves and other dead organic matter. it also became easier and sometimes cheaper to throw used items away. during the Great Depression. In pre-industrial times recycling and general household re-using was actually a commonplace practice. As it became easier and cheaper to produce goods through technological innovation and mass production. Throughout the history of recycling the ultimate recycler is none other than Mother Nature. If not for her wonderful magic in the composting process. Evidence shows that scrap bronze and other metals were collected in Europe and melted down for perpetual reuse. people would look for ways to make the most of what they had.

There are different types of Recycling. It is the process of manufacturing old paper products and turning them into new. plastic. Glass can be recycled over again and never lose its quality or quantity. Metal recycling.Magazines . The benefits of recycling paper are it leaves more trees for the sustainability of our environment and it can be recycled 8 times to create new products. reusable glass products. reduce air pollution and water pollution by reducing the need for "conventional" waste disposal.Construction paper are the most recognized recycled products. metal. Calendars. Paper bags .Tissue.

Torn-down buildings. Plastic recycling is the process of reprocessing used scrap and waste plastic into new plastic material. Cathode ray tube (CRT). Metal from circuit board. Computer recycling is the process of recycling and refurbishing old computer parts into new. Appliances. Bridge parts. Copper in power cord. Glass monitor. Windows. Also. Printer cartridges. Mouthwash bottles. Yogurt containers. Batteries are the computer parts that can be recycled. . Recycling textiles such as old clothes not only cuts down on waste and pollution.Almost all aluminum and steel products can be recycled over again without compromising its content. Plastic case. usable parts. Keyboard. Peanut butter and other food jars. Plastics products that are PET bottles such as Soda and water bottles. It can be used to make toys. Shampoo bottles. carparts. Auto parts. Auto parts. Plastic wrap. drainage pipes and more and it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions. fibers from shredded recycled textiles can be used to make new products. Juice containers. Cable. but provides cheap apparel to low-income families all over the world. Computer recycling allows people to buy used computers at an affordable price and it conserves energy use in manufacturing plants and lastly. Aluminum such as Soda cans. park benches. Doors and steel such as Tin cans. Trash bags. CD Rom drive.products uses 95% less energy than manufacturing it from new materials. Appliances. Salad dressing bottles and bottles that contains HDPE (high-density polyethylene) These plastics include Milk containers. Metal recycling reduces greenhouse gas emissions and lessens land and water pollution. Liquid laundry detergent containers. Recycling old plastic products uses 20%-40% less energy than manufacturing it from new.

By not having to mine raw materials in order to continue producing the same . paper. Often the energy required to recycle materials is far less than the energy required to make a product out of new materials. and in general a healthier economy for everyone concerned. the number of people required to collect. reduced amount of greenhouse emission and reduced consumption of natural resources are the positive effects of recycling. Some sites are not clean and not well organized that may give unhealthy effects in producing a recycled product. This is the process the waste materials in order to make them reusable. they do not end up taking up space in a landfill somewhere. Another example of the importance of recycling has to do with the creation of new jobs. But recycling also causes negative effects such as sites where recycling is done that is not managed properly. Conserved energy. Recycling is the process that helps to minimize the presence of waste materials in our communities.Recycling happens inorder to save the environment. More jobs in the community means more money spent in local stores. and plastics are being reused to create new products. One of the largest importance of recycling is the ability to preserve more used materials for later use. As more people recycle. reduced pollution. recycling is important to maintain a healthy balance in the ecology of the planet. While some materials have a limited amount of times that they can be recycled. many others can theoretically be recycled an infinite number of times. sort and process recycled items continues to grow. more taxes collected for the city or town. Items such as glass. And lastly.

.volume of products. forests. there is less damage to our rivers. and areas where wildlife is abundant.

Recycling is important because it lessen garbage and at the same less time help the environment lessen the pollution that is one of the major problem of the government. at their young age are aware of the importance of recycling and at the same time how do they patronize products made out of these recycled materials. Statement of the Problem: What is the level of awareness of high school students in recycling and their level of patronizing recycled products? Objectives of the Study: • To show the level of awareness of high school students to recycling To show the level of patronage of high school students in recycled products • .CHAPTER II Introduction Recycling is a form of making used and supposed to be garbage materials to a new usable product. The researcher is curious how high school students. It also gives alternative jobs and additional income to jobless Filipinos.

They will be aware of the importance of patronizing recycled products in our society and how it helps the government in its problem regarding proper disposal of garbage. . Analytical method of research focuses on the analysis of the level of awareness of the respondents in recycling and their level of patronizing recycled products. Calamba. The questioning for the students were structured for the researcher to determine the level of awareness in recycling and their level of patronizing recycled products. Population of the Study: The respondents of the researcher are 30 high school students from Mary Help of Christians School Canlubang. It used survey/questionnaires conducted by the researcher using questions addressed to high school students to determine how much do they know about recycling and how do they patronize different products out of recycled products.Significance of the Study: With this study. Laguna. the students will be aware of recycling and its importance. METHODOLOGY Research Design: The research design used in this study is analytical.

Calamaba. Calamba.Locale of the Study: The research locale of the study was at Mary Help of Christians School Canlubang. Laguna to conduct a research about the level of awareness of the high school students in recycling and their level of patronizing recycled products. . Procedure of Data Gathering: The researcher went to Mary Help of Christians School Canlubang. The researcher chose in random 30 high schools students to answer prepared questionnaires. It took 3 days for the researcher to complete and collect the questionnaires because some students were not able to finish answering the survey questions in time while some are cooperative in submitting the questionnaires given to them on time. Laguna because I am concerned how concerned are the present high school students of my alma mater to the importance of recycling and how do they do it.
