An Act amending 3 V.I.C., chapter 1, section 8b, to extend burial death benefits to veterans who
were domiciled outside of the Virgin Islands at their time of death

PROPOSED BY: Senators Celestino A. White, Sr. and Samuel Sanes

1 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands:

2 SECTION 1. (a) Title 3 V.I.C., chapter 1, section 8b, subsection (c), is amended as

3 follows:

4 (a) in the first sentence, by striking the word “only” where it appears; and

5 (b) by inserting in that first sentence, after the word death,“, or veterans who were

6 born in the Virgin Islands but domiciled outside of the Virgins Islands at the time of death, if

7 such veterans are not receiving veterans burial benefits from their place of domicile or another

8 jurisdiction.”.

2 BILL SUMMARY

3 This bill seeks to amend 3 V.I.C., chapter 1, section 8b (c)., to extend burial death

4 benefits to veterans who were domiciled outside of the Virgin Islands at their time of death if

5 they are not receiving veterans burial benefits from another jurisdiction. Currently, the section

6 limits such benefits to domiciliaries of the Virgin Islands.
