Project Concept Paper

Introduction

Pride month is celebrated every June, where social media is filled with rainbow colored
pictures or publications about the LGBTQIA+ community. However, It is important to remember
that what is celebrated and emphasized in Pride month doesn't end in Pride month. The
Philippines is still considered as a conservatice country wherein the Catholic church and other
religious groups have a large influence in social and political issues. Nevertheless, this does not
negate the history of gay culture and presence in the country. Home for the Golden Gays is a
shelter for old gay men who either left their families or have no one else to turn to.

Project Concept Paper
Introduction
Typhoons, natural calamities and hazards are not new to the Philippine environment.
Unfortunately, it is a natural phenomena that Filipinos are used to experiencing annually. This
means citizens always expect the worst case scenarios when it’s that time of the year again. Not
only does it affect the livelihood of the peoples, it also strips the Philippines away from great
development potential and hinders the economy from gradually improving, due to the delays
these natural shocks bring upon us. Along that is the not up-to-date drainage systems in the
metro that still work yet aren’t efficient or effective enough anymore. But fortunately in this
period in time, people developed efficient solutions that pose as sustainable and less harmful to
the environment and people. One of those would be Low Impact Development.

Purpose
Low Impact Development is the practice of implementing sustainable water accumulation
methods to improve the water filtration, drainage and system of a specific location without
harming the environment or damaging the surroundings drastically. These could be green roofs,
rain gardens, bioretention gardens, bioswales, pervious pavement, and rain harvesting.

- We ultimately want to provide reality solutions with the least amount of ecological
expense incurred

Project Description
- To gauge the metro for LID potential to tailor fit the methods
- Implementing Low Impact Development practices in Metro Manila

Goals/Objectives
- Tailor fit the LID practices to Metro Manila
- Start with Small barangay communities, then eventually expand
- Eventually realize long term results with regards to livelihood, lifestyle of the people, the
environment and economy

Benefits/Anticipated Outcomes
- Reduce calamity hazard effects on the masses
- Increase potential in inviting investors to capitalize on the Philippines
- Water for other purposes/industries
