2. TRINITY RELATIONSHIPS

God gives glory to Jesus / Holy Spirit and vice-versa PASSAGES o John 8:54 Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me. o John 13:31 - Jesus said, The time has come for the Son of Man[a] to enter into his glory, and God will be glorified because of him. 32 And since God receives glory because of the Son,[b] he will soon give glory to the Son. o JOHN 16 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. PERSUADE/ILLUSTRATE o Circular/back-and-forward sharing of glory o Each one GIVES rather than TAKES/COMMANDS from the other o Can you picture a WHIRLPOOL of sharing and giving... flowing momentum

The trinity were having fun in their little bubbling Jacuzzi of glory (on their own), but they decided it would be fun with more people... (maybe a few billion extra) God wanted to WIDEN THE CIRCLE to include us also We re created to be in GIVING relationships also

3. INVITED INTO THE CIRCLE

[2mins]

PASSAGES o LUKE 638 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.[a] (in a passage related to forgiveness) o 2 COR 1 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 5 For the more we suffer

y y y y y

for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. 6 Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer. 7 We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the comfort God gives us. God has designed us to be in a similar relationship of GIVING and PASSING ON what we receive Picture a WHIRLPOOL. Each person is equally giving and pushing. Slowly the momentum gathers until you start getting carried along. That s the WHIRLPOOL EFFECT, when a combined effort creates motion and pull , and everyone s effort is lessened.

Principle o Don t stop the flow (?)

But are there areas that you hold back? That you clutch onto? God invites you to come, swim, immerse yourself completely. Let go of all the things that hold you back from enjoying the whirlpool relationship

What about here at Harvest? Most of the student events are organised by a few key people. (Unfortunately we sometimes fuel that posture because of our lecture formats.) Do you spectate? Or are you helping fuel the momentum of our pool? o Don t come just to receive, but to GIVE, to PASS ON everything you ve been given: o Knowledge, comfort, encouragement, gifts, money

Extra passages: y 2 Corinthians 5:18 All of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. y 1 PETER 4: 7 The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. 8 Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay. 10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

LUKE 6: 37 Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. MARK 4: 24 Then he added, Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given[c] and you will receive even more. 25 To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them. MATT 6: [the Lord s prayer...] 14 If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
