Bitch Queens
The band Bitch Queens (at the time named Hot Cut-Up Pancake) was founded in the year 2000 by
David Atwood (aka Dave Dandy, Bass/Vox) and Harry Darling (aka Captain A., drums). That same
year Dan Solbach (aka Diamond Dan, guitar) and Melchior Quitt (aka Kid Krystal, lead guitar) joined
the two to fulfill the formation. The coming four years were spent mostly with finding their style
of music, learning their instruments and playing a few shows in local clubs. Hot Cut-Up Pancake
made their mark in the young and local music scene of Basel, but only after changing their name
to Bitch Queens in 2005 did the band reach a point where they could be taken seriously on a diffe-
rent level. By and by the whole concept solidified: High Energy Rock combined with Mascara and
Glitter. Do-It-Yourself was deliberately and willingly an important factor. The first self-produced
7-Track EP was released in 2005.
2007, 3 years and a number of shows later, Bitch Queens recorded and self-produced their first
full-length album named Blood On Our Hands. The album was celebrated at Hirscheneck (Basel,
CH) in form of a release party. Dollhouse (SWE) agreed to be the support act and the show was
sold out in merely 30 minutes. Since then the Bitch Queens have been playing shows on a regular
basis.
In Spring 2008, after larger shows like Im Fluss, the Imagine-Festival and a sold-out event at
the Reithalle of the Kaserne Basel, David Atwood decided to leave the band. The replacement was
found in Marcel Colomb (aka Marc Steele, Bass), bassist of the Metal band Secondhand Child, and
Melchior Quitt took over the lead vocals. So since autumn 2008 the Bitch Queens have been on the
road in a new formation. They have played various show, amongst others as headliner at the Mad
Santa Festival in front of 600 spectators, a minitour with Dollhouse in Switzerland or headlining
the JKF 2009 in Basel in front of approximately 3‘000 people.
April 2009 the band recorded the 4-Tack EP High-Stung at Foolpark Studios with producer Deezl
Imhof, which was released in September 2009. In October 2010 the LP Female Shotgun (also recor-
ded in Foolpark Studios with Imhof) is available in all stores Europe-wide and crowned by a tour
through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The album is released by the record label Lux Noise
Productions, which they revamped together with a bunch of friends from other bands. Since the
release of the EP High Strung 2009 the sound of Bitch Queens continues to evolve, always incre-
asing it’s precision and power.
It’s a street fight with Motörhead and the Backyard Babies, while next door the Dead Boys are
drinking beer with The Datsuns. Bitch Queens are at their best on stage playing live shows. It’s
hard to find anything comparable in Switzerland.
