Question 3
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Examples of distribution companies include:

If our media product was to be distributed by a media institution I think it would

be distributed by a large distribution company such as Buena Vista or Universal. I

did some research on many institutions and the films they distribute; I found out
that our main inspiration “Mean Girls” was distributed by “Paramount Pictures”
and various other distribution companies such as “Buena Vista International” and
also “Bonton Film”. Another film I have researched “10 Things I Hate About You”
was distribution by “Buena Vista Pictures” owned by Disney. From this research I
think it would be right to say, if our film was to be distributed it would be
distributed by companies such as “Buena Vista Pictures” and “Paramount
Pictures” as when I was researching they distribute mainstream genre movies
that are similar to ours. The features of a film which make it similar and diverse
to a big commercial film like “Mean Girls” are that “Mean Girls” is set on the
North Shore of Chicago, at a typical busy high school. Whereas in contrast out
film “Individuality” is set in an English boarding school; which therefore is a
affluent aspirational film, similar to “Clueless”. They both are analogous as they
both show similar cliques such as the stereotypical: ‘jock’, ‘chav’ and ‘geek’. Our
media product “Individuality” would appeal to these distribution companies as
the genre and film would also appeal to a specific audience; it would appeal to
the middle class teenage girls, those in the age category of 16-24, demographic
and disposable incomes.

For what we have planned for the rest of our product it would be a big budgeted
production as to achieve particular plans for example the fire at school and the
thunder storm.

Due to our chosen distributors, genre and its appeal to the audience of
“Individuality” would perhaps be in the box office charts. It would probably be
distributed in the United Kingdom and the United States; the United Kingdom in
particular as it is the same country who can relate to our chosen culture of the
film.

But for the actual production we created our own production company called “A
Kennedy Thompson production”. Title cards and sequences before the film
begins sets atmosphere for the audience, they grab their attention making them
interested to what is about to occur, and the film the company is presenting.
Using big successful distribution companies, an audience should expect a big
successful, enjoyable film.
