Study Nights continue tomorrow, Monday at 6pm! Why not come out to study for those
upcoming exams with your Pi-NSBE-SHPE peeps?
When: Every Monday from 6-8 pm
Where: Pi Study Room ECJ 1.216 located across the engineering library and also Alec
Room in the library for all those who prefer a more quiet setting to study

PSP End of the Year Social:

Hey Members,
First of all I would like to begin by thanking those who came out to our kayaking social. I
really hope everybody enjoyed some time out of the engineering buildings and added some
color to your skin.
With that being said it's about that time we begin preparing for our annual end of the
year social, which if you didn't know it takes place at FIESTA TEXAS!!! Yes I know sounds
exciting and it will be especially since you will be able to go with the rest of the Pi members! We
will be going on May 7, 2011 (that's a Saturday for those of you who might look it up on a
calendar) so make sure you sign up ASAP since this social will be capped and gets full really fast.

PNS Basketball Tournament Social:

Pi-NSBE-SHPE Members,

Hope you all are ready to play some basketball! Come and represent your organization
in a friendly match up between Pi, NSBE and SHPE orgs. LIVE DJ (Electro-Nico!!!) will also be
present to keep us in the mood. FREE food (pizza) and drinks will be provided as well.

5:30-6 we will have warmup/shoot-around
6pm Tournament starts

Tentative Rules: We will have a coed and a men’s bracket. Each game will be 15 min long or
first to 15 (by 1's and 2's) whichever comes first. For the coed we will do 3 girls and 2 guys
(guys guarding guys and girls guarding girls).

4. 2011 PNS Crawfish Broil

The 2011 PNS Crawfish Boil is finally here! This is an opportunity to network with corporate
representatives from Schlumberger and Texas Instruments in a setting outside of the career
fair. There will be free dinner for all who attend. We hope that this gives PNS members another
chance to make an impression and secure positions within the aforementioned companies.

5. Alec Building Contest: PNS WINS!

Thanks to the Pi-NSBE-SHPE support, PNS WON THE ALEC BUILIDNG CONTEST! We were
awarded $500 and Alec the Minion will be on display in the McKinney Engineering Library for
the next year! Awesome! Thank you to everyone that helped spread the word to vote.

Rivals Week:
This week is Rivals Week: School of Engineering vs. School of Business. Support your fellow

SEC Video Contest:


SEC will be showing our video at their next meeting tomorrow in ECJ 1.202 at 7pm. I will be

UT Student Engineering Council eWaste Drive:


SEC is hosting their annual eWaste Drive. If you are interested in helping pass out flyers,

8. Research Opportunities

EOE TREX (Texas Research Experience) Program:


Are you interested in pursuing an undergraduate research opportunity for 2011-12? The Texas
Research Experience program, or TREX, offers a number of opportunities to help successful
upper division students further enhance their academic experience with research. In addition
you will learn about careers in research and product development in an academic setting and
gain the experience to become a competitive graduate school applicant.

TREX students must:


• Be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

• Be enrolled in the Cockrell School during Fall 2011 and Spring 2012.
• Complete at least 45 credit hours by Sept. 1, 2011 with AT LEAST 30 hours
completed at The University of Texas at Austin.
• Receive an A or B in all technical labs taken.
• Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
• Attend mandatory training prior to the first day of the fall semester.
• Enroll in a one hour course for both semesters, GE 027M, Wednesdays from 4 to 5
p.m.

SRA (Summer Research Academy):


The Equal Opportunity in Engineering Program is looking for undergraduate Engineering
students to work in a research program for Summer 2011. The Summer Research Academy
(SRA) will
begin Tuesday, May 31st and last until Friday, August 5th. If selected, you are required to work
a total of 300 hours throughout the summer and you must have housing in Austin.
All applicants must:
• Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better
• Have completed at least 45 credit hours in residence at UT
If selected you must:
• Have housing in Austin
• Work a total of 30 hours per week in a 10-week summer program
• Begin the program on Tuesday, May 31st until its conclusion Friday, August 5th
• Work with a SRC sponsored professor (see list on website)
• Attend an orientation on May 31st
• Attend all meetings or workshops set by the program
• Complete an abstract, poster, report and PowerPoint Presentation at the end of
summer

student intern starting this summer, 2011. Following are the skills we are looking for in
particular to help with our projects.

- Electrical Engineering student with a GPA above 3.00


- Strong math skills, especially in -- Vector analysis, Linear algebra, Linear system
- A strong engineering background in -- Digital Signal Processing analysis, Control Theory
analysis, Microwave design

NASA Internship Opportunity:

We are again looking for students to complete internships with us this summer at the NASA
Develop GEO Program. We would like to have interns who speak Spanish, though it is not a
requirement. Below is a short description of the internship. I would like to ask you guys if you
could forward this email to your members, as well as asking you for an opportunity to shortly
present the internship program during one of your meetings. Thank you.

NASA DEVELOP GEO PROGRAM, INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY:

This is a NASA training and development program. Students work on earth science
research projects, mentored by science advisors from NASA and partner agencies and extend

research results to local communities. The projects demonstrate to community leaders how
NASA science measurements and predictions can be utilized to address local policy issues.

This is a paid internship located in Wise, VA and will begin in June, 2011 with a duration
of 10 weeks. We are looking for Spanish speaking students, as this specific project is a
collaboration between NASA interns and organizations with government agencies in
