Questionnaire
This questionnaire aims at exploring and understanding your views on your process of
carrying out the project work for your Methods in TESL (BIT 6053) course. Please answer
all the questions truthfully and carefully by writing your responses at the provided space.

1. Did you have any aims on what you want to achieve out of your project work?
My aim is to determine whether the method I chose for the project work is workable in
my working environment.
2. What have you learned out of your experience doing the project work?
I have learnt that my students can be receptive towards teaching methodology that is
new to them.
3. Describe your feelings at the beginning of your project work?
I was feeling a little worried about the lack of response from the students.

4. How did you feel after completing the project? State your reasons.
I was quite surprise actually after the end of the project due to the somewhat positive
response form a small part of the students.

5. Describe the role of your course lecturer while you were doing your project?

The course lecturer played a huge part of clarifying certain areas that are not easy to
understand. Reading the articles and chapters can be quite mindboggling.

6. Do you think you have discovered new knowledge by doing the project?
If yes, describe them.
If no, what could be the reason?

Yes. I have discovered the effectiveness of using journal writing in improving students’
writing. All this while I thought it would have not work in my school. Now I am convince it
can work toward a certain degree.

7. Did you feel burden having to decide on the topic and scope of the project on your own?
If yes, why?
If no, why?
No, it would have been more burdensome if the topic was force upon me.

8. How did you plan for your project?


I identified the problem I have at school with my classroom, look for available
solutions at hand and pick one that I think might work.

9. Were there any occasions that you faced uncertainties on how to carry on with the
project?
If yes, how did you overcome the situation?
If no, what could be your reasons?
No, I thought I have nothing to lose, the method chosen could or could not work. It was
Just a matter of trying.

10. How did you find resources or literature to support your findings?
I use the internet.

11. What were your goals for the project presentation at the end of the semester?
The project did no succeed as much as I hope for various reasons. I presented it in class
my observation of the students hoping that I can save myself from the embarrassment
of my failure.

12. What were the strategies that you used when presenting your project findings?
My strategy was to tell it as it was. It was no use to sweet-coat a fail project when it was
in fact a failure overall.

13. Did you feel in control of your own project work?


I was not in control of the timing of the project once it commenced. By the time I had
decided on what to do, there was a lot of events in school that interfere with my
timeframe.

14. How do you describe the process of doing the project work?
The process was slow because the students were low achievers and needs lots of
guidance.

15. How did you feel about having to select your own methods and techniques for doing the
project?
I feel relieved.

16. Did you carry out a self-evaluation on how well did you carry out the project?
Yes.

17. Did you do a reflection on each session that you had with your students?
If yes, what was the purpose of your reflection?
Yes, to determine my effectiveness as a teacher .

18.Were you satisfied with the outcome of your project work? Give reasons.
No. I could have decided earlier on what to do and started earlier. More time is needed
to see if the methods chosen made any impact on the students.

19. Were there many occasions that you had to make instant decisions on how to solve
certain problems in your project work? Describe one.
No.

20. Do you agree that you are mainly responsible in ensuring that your project is a success?
Justify.
I agree. I am the agent of change in my school. I have to start the change.

21. How has the project helped you to develop professionally?

The project was an eye-opener to me. It show that the teaching methodology has to
change in order to change the situation in my school. As the practicing teacher, I have to
bring the changes to the environment.
