PERSONAL STATEMENT

Before I became fascinated by the media world, I was subconsciously a part of it

like everyone else. The news on TV, the magazines I read and the commercials
urged me to buy the products I purchased. I find it remarkable how the media
exercise power over our lives whilst offering rich cultural rewards.
Communication is as old as human existence; It has played a significant role as
far as the co-existence of human beings is concerned. However, the
technological revolution has brought about many new types of communication
that now play a significant role in disseminating information and entertainment to
worldwide populations. Digital media is becoming more difficult because it is
rapidly evolving alongside innovations in technology and how people interact with
it. I have the desire to gain further knowledge in it via this program to
disseminate, manage, transmit, and secure information for effective
communication. Integrating related areas such as the media, culture, technology
and internet, will automatically make me fit to stand out professionally.
My undergraduate study in English has further prepared me for the course as it
helped me gain communication skills needed to succeed in the Mass
communication field. My bachelor's program also helped me learn proven
techniques to analyze communication and disseminate information more
critically. There are various career options available to English Language majors,
with a career in mass communication a significant part of it.
Considering my skills and interests, I would find fulfilment in working in the
creative industry. The education from Teesside University and my commitment to
the subject, and my language skills would allow me to pursue a career in this
field. Therefore, I have chosen to study this masters course as a pathway to my
career in the mass communication field. With this ever-changing world, studying
this course would keep me updated on the modern practices in mass
communication and better prepare me for a career in it.
My interest to continue my education at Teesside University spurs from the
course structure of my desired course. The MA Digital Media and
Communications at the university has course modules like Digital Platforms
and Production, which would help me with my digital communication capabilities
by assisting in developing a website around a subject of my choice. User
Experience for Digital Communications would assist with audience
usability, adaptability, and accessibility of the digital platforms. The university’s
excellent reputation is also another factor I considered. The university is home to
many international students. The diversity is beautiful. I certainly look forward to
having different nationalities on campus and interacting with students from
various mass communication backgrounds, degree disciplines, and cultural,
national, and international experiences. Teesside University has a very high
employability rating. Most of its courses are accredited, which speaks volumes of
the level of education being impacted. The university is also known for its
innovative research and world-class facilities to support and aid learning.
Teesside University is also known for its excellent student experience rating is
very important to me as a new student in the UK.
I choose to study in the United Kingdom because of a host of reasons. Firstly, the
quality of education. A UK degree is widely recognized as equal to that of other
top countries globally. It is well ranked internationally, which is very much
superior to that of my home country. Secondly, the affordable cost of education in
the UK, given the excellent quality of education, was another factor I considered
while choosing my country of choice. Thirdly, the international exposure of the
country was another factor I considered. The UK is exposed to many
international applicants, and as a result, assimilating and blending in would be
much easier. Having acknowledged that United Kingdom education is well
recognized all over the world. More importantly, the first four top university
rankings are from the UK. This shows the quality of education in UK universities.
The UK universities are inspected regularly to uphold the high quality and
standard laid down by the government. Right now, UK research is world-leading
with international excellence and relevance. This would also assist in propagating
evidence-based practices, and the duration of most courses in UK universities
are shorter compared to other countries. Finally, the cultural diversity of life in the
UK is unequalled, considering the cosmopolitan towns and cities to historical
centres to the ancient buildings, which could enrich my cultural perception.
Studying at the UK University will allow me to study in a core academic
environment with excellent facilities for learning with ease, such as the innovative
library and amazing research supervisory team. This will facilitate my critical
thinking skills and problem-solving techniques, which would enhance my
research skills. Universities in the UK are known to be international student-
friendly institutions. The staff are highly dedicated and experienced experts in
their field.
