A Study on Effectiveness of Training and Development

Meaning of training:

Training is a learning experience in that it seeks a relatively permanent change in an

individual that will improve his/her ability to perform on the hob. We typically say training can
involve the changing of skills, knowledge, attitude, or social behaviors it may mean changing
what executives know; how they work; their attitudes towards their work, or their interactions
with their co-workers or their supervisors 1997.

Training and development:

Training is a short-term process utilizing a systematic and organized procedure by which

non-managerial personnel learn technical knowledge and skills for specific purpose.
Development is a long-term educational process utilizing a systematic and organized procedure
by which managerial personnel learn conceptual and theoretical knowledge for general purpose

“Training” refers only to instruction in technical and mechanical operations, while

“development” refers to philosophical and theoretical educational concepts. Training is designed
for non-managers, while development involves managerial personnel.
Steps in training programme:

Training is a costly affair and a time consuming affair. Therefore they need to be drafted
carefully. The following steps are considered necessary:

1. Discovering or identifying the training needs,

2. Preparation of the trainer,
3. Presentation of operations and knowledge,
4. Performance try-out and
5. Follow-up and evaluation programmers.


Primary objectives:

 To know the effectiveness of training and development of the employees in NAG Leather
Land private Ltd.

Secondary objective:

 Measurements for the Impact for the training.

 To examine the effectiveness of training in overall development of skills of workforce.
 To examine the impact of training on the workers.
 To study the changes in behavioral pattern due to training.
 To measure the differential change in output due to training
 To compare the cost effectiveness in implanting training programmed.
