Athena

Athens was born out of the forehead of Zeus. She had no mother. She was fully dressed in armour. She is Zeus' favourite child. She is the goddess of war, civilization, wisdom, strength, strategy, crafts and Justice. The Athenians built the Parthenon for her. The Athenians worship her because she protects Athens.

Athena and Medusa

Medusa was a gorgon but unlike her sisters she was very beautiful. When Athena caught Medusa wooing people in her temple she changed Medusa's form to match that of her sister Gorgons as punishment. Medusa's hair turned into snakes, her lower body was transformed also, and meeting her gaze would turn any living creature to stone.

Lady of Athens

There was once no patron of Athens and both Athena and Posiden wanted to become the patron. They decided to each give a gift to Athens and the giver of the gift the Athenians like best would become the patron. Posiden gave a spring of water this gave them a means of trade and water but the water was salty and not very good for drinking. Athena gave the first commercial olive tree. The Athenians accepted the olive tree and with it the patronage of Athena, for the olive tree brought wood, oil, and food.

The Other Olympian Gods.

Ares

Ares is the son of Zeus and Hera and he was disliked by both parents. Ares is the god of war. He is irrational and enters into people to cause rage making them want to fight. Ares is said to be Aphrodites boyfriend. His bird is a vulture and his animal is a dog.

Apollo

Apollo is the son of Zeus and Leto. His twin sister is Artemis. He is the god of music, the god of healing and the god of light the god of truth. One of Apollo's more important daily tasks is to harness his chariot with four horses an drive the Sun across the sky. His tree was the laurel. The crow his bird. The dolphin his animal. He is often seen playing a golden lyre or shooting a silver bow.

Aphrodite

Aphrodite is the goddess of love, desire and beauty. In addition to her natural gifts she has a magical girdle that compels anyone she wishes to desire her. She is the wife of Hephaestus and the daughter of Zeus and Dione. The myrtle is her tree. The dove, the swan, and the sparrow her birds.

Hermes

Hermes is the son of Zeus and Maia. He is Zeus messenger as he is the fastest of the gods. He wears winged sandals, a winged hat, and carries a magic wand. He is the god of thieves and god of commerce he is also the guide for the dead to go to the underworld. He invented the lyre, the pipes, the musical scale, astronomy , weights and measures, boxing, gymnastics, and the care of olive trees.

Artemis

Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and Leto. Her twin brother is Apollo. She is the lady of the wild things. She is the huntsman of the gods and protector of the young. Like Apollo she hunts with silver arrows. She became associated with the moon. She caused Leto no pain when she was born so she presides over childbirth. Her symbols are a Bow, arrows, stags, hunting dog, and moon

Hephaestus
● ●

Hephaestus is the son of Zeus and Hera. He is the only ugly god and he is the god of fire and forge. He is the patron god of both smiths and weavers and he is kind and peace loving. His wife is Aphrodite. He is also lame. Zeus or Hera upset by having an ugly child, flung him from Mount Olympus into the sea, breaking his legs. His symbols are a Hammer, Anvil and Tongs
