San Diego native Lee was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps running the family clothing store. But after stints in a local rock band and at the local community college, he was spotted by Frank Burns, the legendary manager of a local comedy club, and the rest is history. Lee rapidly became an in-demand, stand-up comic with his unique Korean-American perspective, and charismatic on-stage personality. In 1995, comedian Pauly Shore spotted Lee on stage and asked him to open his act in Las Vegas. Lee subsequently met Shore’s mother, Mitzi, and became a regular of her comedy club, later hitting the road with comic Carlos Mencia. Lee joined MADtv in 1999 and become a fan-favorite, known for his unique brand of pain-inducing, physical humor. Creating such memorable original characters as the comically confused film critic “Johnny Gan,” the world’s worst interpreter “Bae Sung” and hapless warrior, the “Blind Kung Fu Master,” audiences also loved his takes on such real-world figures as Connie Chung and North Korean President Kim Jong Il.

Lee’s film credits include Hard Breakers, Kickin’ It Old Skool, Killer Pad and Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. On television, Lee has appeared in Curb Your Enthusiasm and Mind of Mencia and has performed stand-up on Late Friday, Premium Blend and The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. He was also the host of this year’s Asian Excellence Awards. About the Laugh Factory: Opening its doors in 1979, the world-famous Laugh Factory has been recognized as “the #1 comedy club in the country” by such high-profile media as USA Today. With southern California locations in Hollywood (its original Sunset Boulevard locale) and Long Beach (opened in 2008), comedy’s top stars – as well as today’s brightest emerging talent – shine on its legendary stage. Founder Jamie Masada – a pioneer, innovator and iconic name on the comedy scene, who got into “The Biz” at the age of 14 – has been instrumental in launching the careers of many of today’s biggest comics. A former standup himself, Masada is a sought-after consultant and successful producer of comedy franchises for film (Disney’s RocketMan, Damon Wayan’s Behind the Smile), television (DirecTV’s Supreme Court of Comedy, FOX’s In Living Color, Showtime’s Full Frontal Comedy, UPN’s Vibe, FOX’s Comic Strip Live), radio (Premiere Radio’s syndicated Laugh Factory Joke of the Day, which enjoyed an 18-year run) and live events (Comedy March on Washington). With a strong belief that “laughter is the best medicine,” Masada is also a dedicated philanthropist, working extensively with underprivileged children and the homeless (feeding and entertaining those in need) and a supporter of struggling artists.
