Vocabulary is a core component in learning English since it is needed to


comprehend the four skills in English. The English lesson in SDN Sidodadi 2 is
also started by introducing vocabulary. The teaching vocabulary process in SDN
Sidodadi faces several problems. The first is the lack of students’ motivation in
learning English. The students have difficulties in recognizing words in English,
so it is difficult for them to memorize the vocabulary. The objectives of the
research are to describe the application of animation in teaching vocabulary to the
first grade students of SDN Sidodadi 02, to depict the students’ vocabulary
mastery after the application of animation in teaching vocabulary for first grade
students of SDN Sidodadi 02, and to identify the advantages and disadvantages of
the application of animation in teaching vocabulary for first grade students of
SDN Sidodadi 02.
In this research, the researcher does descriptive qualitative research. The
research design is active participating observation. The researcher uses some
technique for collecting the data. They are observation, test, interview, and
documentation. The data analysis uses interactive data analysis technique.
The results of the analysis on the application of animation in teaching
vocabulary to the first grade students of SDN Sidodadi 02 are: (1) the students
show their motivation to involve in learning process. The class situation in the
teaching and learning process becomes more active. (2) The students’ vocabulary
mastery increases after the application since the computation finds that the
progress is 9. It means that each student’s progress is 9. (3) The advantages of
animation as media in teaching vocabulary are it makes the students pay full
attention to the lesson, it is very interesting for the students, it can avoid students’
boredom, it makes the students involved in learning process actively, and the most
important is it can increase the students’ vocabulary mastery. On the other side,
the disadvantages of the media is it needs a lot of media to support, it takes more
time for the students to understand the material, and the materials that can be
presented using animation are limited.
