Dear Captain Thaiar, Reet :
I recall. promising you, on the occasion of your visit on
13 July, that I would send you a report on the performance of
young Ur Ferdinind Marcos in his recent examinotions for the
Special Diplom in Social Studies. ‘I am lad to sy that I have
now received a detailed statement of his results in each of his
papers from tho Emminers, and it cives me pleasure to send you 9.
summery of this.
‘As you are aware, the examination consisted of five
papers. In POLITICAL INSTITUTIONS Ferdinand obtained a reasoneble
Class IT mark, ‘he level he attained in ECONONIC PRINCIPLES was
mich the same. In GENERAL SOCIOLOGY he achieved a slightly higher
level, still within the Class II bracket. In the tvo remaining
papers eHCONONIC DEVELOPMENT and INDUSTRIAL SOCIOLOGY, he again
obtains a reasonable Class IT level.
Altogether his performance in the examination was quite
fa creditable ons, especially having regard to the various
@istmotions to which a young man in his position ia inevitably
exposed. I think ho con go back to his own country with the
confidence that, from the academic point of view, his time at
Oxford was useful.
‘The publio certificate attesting that Mr Ferdinand Marcos
has successfully passed in the Diploma is a separate document
entirly, ond will not be iscued until later in the summer. I have
requested the University Offices to send me the certificate just so
soon as it is available, and T shall armnge for it to be tmnamitted
to you at once,
Yours sincerely,
JAQK!
