**Department of Civil Engineering Tutorial Sheet #02: Geometrical construction and scales
**

Time: 180 minutes Maximum Marks: 100 1. ME 111: Engineering Drawing (2009-10)

(a) Draw a line AB 150 mm long and divide it in the ratio 1:3:5:7.

[10]

(b) Two pulleys having their centers 110 mm apart are connected by a flat belt in (i) open and (ii) crossed systems. Draw the line diagrams of the drive in both the cases, assuming the belt thickness same as the thickness of lines. Three points on the circumference of the larger pulley forms a triangle with length of sides 82 mm, 78 mm and 68 mm, where as the diameter of smaller pulley is 45 mm. Determine the diameter of the larger pulley. [16]

2.

Draw the lever shown in Figure 1.

[20]

3.

Inside a regular pentagon of side 50 mm, draw five circles, each circle touching two sides of the pentagon and two of the other circles. [20]

4.

Construct a diagonal scale of R.F. =1/1000 to read up to 100 meters and to read decimeters on it. Show a length of 65.3 meters on it. [10]

5.

Construct a vernier scale of R.F = 1:50 to show decimeters, centimeters and millimeters, and to measure up to 5 decimeters. On this scale, show a line of length representing 3.42 decimeter. [10]

6.

Construct plain comparative scales of RF = 3/1, 00,000 to read up to 5 kms and 4 miles. On these, show the kilometer equivalent to 2.1 miles (Note: sub-divide the mile scale in to 10 equal parts. 1 Mile = 5280 ft). [14]
