Locust Grove city officials anticipate more than 3,000 people will take

On Saturday USMC Staff Sgt. Jason Rogers, who was killed in action in Afghanistan April 7, was buried in Brandon,
Mississippi.
That, by itself, is a sadly unremarkable – though certainly noteworthy and solemn – occasion for us to mark.
And in fact when Sgt. Rogers’ body returned to Brandon it was greeted by hundreds, or perhaps even thousands, of well-
wishers who gathered at the roadside to honor the fallen American hero. The dashboard camera from Mississippi state
trooper Elmo Townsend’s cruiser gives an indication of the scene last Thursday.
What is most notable about Sgt. Rogers’ funeral in Brandon, however, is what didn’t happen.
You see, the troglodytes from Westboro Baptist Church had threatened to spew their poison at Sgt. Rogers’ funeral.
But the Westboro mob wasn’t on the scene, and Sgt. Rogers was laid to rest without incident – thank God.
A couple of days before, one of them (Westboro protestors) ran his mouth at a Brandon gas station and got his arse waxed.
Police were called and the beaten man could not give much of a description of who beat him. When they canvassed the
station and spoke to the large crowd that had gathered around, no one seemed to remember anything about what had
happened.
Rankin County handled this thing perfectly. There were many things that were put into place that
most will never know about and at great expense to the county.
Most of the morons never made it out of their hotel parking lot. It seems that certain Rankin county pickup trucks were
parked directly behind any car that had Kansas plates in the hotel parking lot and the drivers mysteriously disappeared until
after the funeral was over. Police were called but their wrecker service was running behind and it was going to be a few
hours before they could tow the trucks so the Kansas plated cars could get out.
A few made it to the funeral but were ushered away to be questioned about a crime they might have possibly been involved
in. Turns out, after a few hours of questioning, that they were not involved and they were allowed to go on about their
business.
Fred Phelps, the DISBARRED LAWYER AND DEMOCRAT ACTIVIST who leads the Westboro congregation, will undoubtedly pursue
some form of legal action for the way his people were thwarted in Brandon. Let him try. There isn’t a jury in Mississippi
which will see things his way.
This is a template for how to handle the Westboro people. If lawsuits don’t work, other means will. Whatever it takes to keep
them from harassing bereaved military families on the day their fallen loved ones are laid to rest.
Tune up your cooking skills and learn how to line your diet up with God’s direction on the subject.
Lace up those sneakers! The 17th annual Miles for Meals Walk will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2011, beginning at the
Jason T. Harper Event Center. Walkers of all ages are encouraged to come out for this long-standing community tradition,
which is the single largest fundraiser organized by the Henry County Council on Aging to benefit Henry County Senior
Services’ various programs.
Every dollar raised stays in Henry County to assist local senior citizens, with the funds helping to provide critical services,
such as hot, nutritious meals that are home-delivered each weekday to 240 seniors, nutritional supplements to those who
qualify, and in-home health services.
The two-mile route will take participants on trails throughout Heritage Park, with a choice of routes to fit all participants’
fitness levels. To make this day even more exciting, this year, organizers have added a 2-mile Fun Run that will take place
prior to the walk.
Registration for the Fun Run begins at 8 a.m., with the run to begin at 9 a.m. Registration for the Walk begins at 9 a.m.,
with the actual walk to commence at 10 a.m. Water will be available throughout the morning, and a picnic lunch will be
served following the Walk for all participants. Groups and individuals that raise the most money will be recognized at the
event.

MARTA needs a bigger pool from which to draw funds. TSPLOST is that pool.
Do you ever get bad vibes that something just isn't coming across right? I have been
reading the newspapers and watching television about the list of projects which have
been submitted on a "wish list" by the cities, counties, MARTA (especially MARTA),
plus one CID from within our ten-county regional transportation district.
From day one, I have felt that TSPLOST 2012 was predicated on the Atlanta Regional
Commission Transit Planning Board (TIB) 2008 Concept Plan 3 Regional Transit Vision.
It is my understanding that the TIB is now called the Transit Implementation Board. I
surmise that the 2008 Concept Plan 3 Regional Transit Vision has undergone charges
which perhaps lays down with TSPLOST 2012. The one thing that I do not expect has
changed is that whatever year the Concept Plan 3 is now designated, all roads still lead
to Rome with Rome, in my opinion, being the "new Five Points" in downtown Atlanta
within the area known as the "gulch" where the new Multimodal Terminal is being
pushed by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Take a hard look at MARTA's "wish list." How is a MARTA Elevator and Escalator
Rehabilitation Project at an estimated cost of $123.4 millon dollars going to relieve
traffic congestion? Am I missing something here?
Once you start feeding public transit systems at the taxpayer funded trough, they are
kind of like hogs, you have to continue to feed them. We have neglected our roads,
bridges, and interchanges infrastructure in metro Atlanta over the years simply because
we have not had the revenue coming into our Georgia Department of Transportation to
upgrade same to match the continuing volume of traffic.
TSPLOST 2012 gives us the opportunity to improve our roads, bridges and interchanges
if we invest TSPLOST dollars where the dollars will do the most good in improving traffic
mobility throughout our ten-county regional transportation district instead of throwing
good money after bad in the way of grandiose rail projects which, if built, would require
ongoing taxpayer subsidies for their upkeep.
Remember, the project "wish list" will continue to be finalized. By June 1, we should
have a good knowledge of what will be coming our way on the project list. If after June
1, the project list contains "fluff" projects such as bicycle/pedestrian trails, developer's
choo choos (light rail), streetscapes, etc., there would still be time to let your members
to the roundtable know of the fallacy of such projects.
