Teen Pregnancy

Cynthia Villatoro

Mr. Ferretti
The teen pregnancy rate has risen drastically since 2006 in the United States; they say

that’s twice as high as in England and Canada. The teen pregnancy rate hasn’t changed much.

There are as much as 750,000 teenage girls that got pregnant this year. The bad thing about it is

that they are so you young. How much it has increased. It’s important for schools to give out

condoms, most teens are embarrassed to go out and buy some and they feel it won’t happen to

them. More information will prevent teen pregnancy. Many people just see the joy of having a

child and having to become one with their partner but most teens don’t see the sacrifices made

and the sleepless nights when a new born is brought into the world. For a parent to give birth

control to a teen, the topic of sex must be discussed and explained that by giving out the birth

control doesn’t mean that sex is allowed.

There are a lot of TV shows about pregnancy. It seems like shows about pregnant teenage

girls are very popular these days. Most of the shows revolve around how hard it is to be a

teenage mother and how to prevent it from happening. It gives viewers a real insight on the

decisions and struggles that teenage mothers go through. It also gives you a lot of information

about pregnancy.

The teen birth rate is climbing after slowly falling for years. There are still an estimated

of one million teen pregnancies in the United States by itself. These pregnancies are unplanned

so there’s about 85%, which in any population can increase the risk for problems. The biggest

risk for teen mothers are taking is a delay in prenatal care or even maybe worse, and about 7.2%

received no care at all. The reason for lack of prenatal care is usually lack of a pregnancy test,

fear of telling others that they are pregnant and worrying about what they have to say about the

pregnancy. Most states have a health department or University clinic where its care is free or you
don’t have to pay a lot and patient confidentiality which is very important because some teens

don’t want to tell their parents right there and then, they want to wait till it’s the right time.

Most teens don’t realize that once you get pregnant you slack on a lot of things the most

common thing is school. Teen mothers are less likely to complete high school. Only about one in

three receives a high school diploma and only 1.5% has a college degree by the time they each to

the age of 30. Teenage mothers are less likely to qualify for a well-paying job since few have a

high school diploma and not only that they spent most of their time taking care of their child. If

the mother gives birth to a child as a single mother and did not end up receiving her high school

diploma, there is a 64% chance that the child will grow up in poverty. If the teenagers are

married high school graduate the child has a chance of growing up in poverty of only 7%. Some

teens just do things wit out knowing anything and they never think twice before doing things.

Being a teenage mother can also cause problems with the child’s birth. Babies are more

likely to be born prematurely and they can also have low birth weight meaning they an weight

less than a normal baby, which raises the probabilities of the baby to die, They can also come out

blind, deaf, with chronic respiratory problems, mental retardation, and mental illness it also

doubles the chance that a child will later be diagnosed as having dyslexia, hyperactivity, or

another disability. It doesn’t only affect the child’s life it can affect the mothers to or the parents.

They can have poor school performance, growing up in a single parent household, having a

mother who has an adolescent mother, or even having a sister who has become pregnant.

Teenagers don’t think of ways to prevent the pregnancy but there so many ways. The

biggest risk that teenagers have is that they have sex and they don’t use contraception. About

90% of teens who have unprotected sex get pregnant within a year. Most of the teenagers should
use condoms its way much safer and you don’t have to worry about getting pregnant or they can

even go on birth control. There’s other ways you can prevent teen pregnancy such as talking to

your child about it like be clear about your own sexual values and attitudes . So therefore they

know what they would get there self into when or if they become pregnant at a young age.

Talking from an experience young lady , getting pregnant is like the new thing around in

the world but let me tell you , you guys might think it’s cute to get pregnant but in reality you

have no idea what you’re getting yourself into and how hard it is to be a mother . I have an 18

year old sister that got pregnant at the age of 17 and let me tell you these pass months it hasn’t

been easy for her. All she does is stay up and take care of her daughter she really doesn’t get any

sleep. It’s really hard for her because of the fact that she has a job and goes to school. I’m not

saying don’t get pregnant or anything I’m just trying to put it out that being a mother is not that

easy. Live your life wisely you don’t need to have a child at such a young age your young

yourself so just live life and your time will come later on.
