(ACI 301M-99, Sec. 5.3.4.2(a)) Floated Finish - After the concrete has been placed, consolidated, stricken-off, leveled, high/low spots eliminated and the bleed water has disappeared and the concrete hard enough to allow finishing, a Floated Finish shall be applied with hand floats, bladed power float with shoes or a power disk float. (ACI 301M-99, Sec. 5.3.4.2(b)) Trowel Finish- After the concrete has been placed, consolidated, stricken-off, leveled, high/low spots eliminated and floated off with a bull float, a Trowel Finish shall be applied by power trowel or hand trowel smooth and free of trowel marks. Hand troweling shall proceed until the trowel produces a ringing sound as the floor is worked. (ACI 301M-99, Sec. 5.3.4.2(c)) Broom or Bell Finish- After the concrete has been placed, consolidated, stricken-off, leveled, high/low spots eliminated and floated off with a bull float, its surface can be given a coarse transverse scored texture by drawing a broom or burlap belt across the surface. (ACI 301M-99, Sec. 5.3.4.2(d)) When not shown on IFC Drawings or Required by Project Specifications, a Scratched Finish shall be applied on surfaces to receive bonded cementitious mixtures. (ACI 301M-99 Sec. 5.3.4.2(j)) When not shown on IFC Drawings or Required by Project Specifications, a Floated Finish shall be applied on surfaces to receive waterproofing, roofing, insulation, or sand-bed terrazzo. (ACI 301M-99, Sec. 5.3.4.2(j)) When not shown on IFC Drawings or Required by Project Specifications a Floated Finish shall be applied on walks, drives, steps, and ramps. (ACI 301M-99, Sec. 5.3.4.2(j)) When not shown on IFC Drawings or Required by Project Specifications, a Trowel Finish shall be applied on walking surfaces in manufacturing, storage, warehousing or surfaces to receive a floor covering. (ACI 301M99, Sec. 5.3.4.2(j)) Initial floating shall be completed after concrete placement. (ACI 302.1R01, Sec. 8.3.3) SAES-Q-001 Sec. 9.0

The use of any floating or troweling machine that has a water attachment for wetting the concrete surface during finishing shall be prohibited A12 (Application of water during finishing can damage the top few millimeters of concrete, causing delamination). (ACI 302.1R, Sec. 8.3.3) B Curing Inspection Maximum total dissolved solids in water used for moist curing shall not exceed 1000 parts per million. Water curing shall be continuous until the compressive strength has reached 70% of the specified strength, but not less than 7 days after placement. Continuous water cure can be provided by covering with wet burlap and plastic; The saturated burlap shall be covered with a plasticized sheet vapor barrier, minimum 0.15 mm (6 mils) in thickness (Polyethylene Sheeting). Where appearance is important, concrete curing by 0.15 mm polyethylene film shall be avoided; film over damp burlap may be used. (ACI 308, Sec. 2.4.2.1) During the moist curing period, saturated cover materials should not be allowed to dry and absorb water from the concrete. (ACI 308, Sec. 2.5)
