R&S CMW500

The 3GPP TS36.521-1 LTE User Equipment (UE) conformance specification Radio transmission and reception specifies the measurement procedures for LTE terminals containing transmitting characteristics, receiving characteristics and performance requirements as part of the 3G Long Term Evolution (3G LTE). This application note describes how to use the LTE FDD measurements functionality of the R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester to perform LTE transmitter and receiver measurements according to this test specification.

Introduction How to use save files in CMW500

1 Introduction
Most of the transmitter and receiver tests specified in TS 36.521-1 for 3GPP Rel-8 can be performed with R&S®CMW500 signaling and measurement solution. This document provides a step by step guide how to perform Rel-8 measurements according to 3GPP TS 36.521 V8.4.0 (2009.12) clauses 6 and 7 using CMW500 LTE callbox. It refers to the functionality provided with R&S®CMW500 firmware Version 1.0.15.23. Each test is explained in an example. Since the different measurements require certain specific settings a set of example save filed is provided with this application note. It is explained below how to create and recall such save files. The here described tests are limited to the ones that can be performed with a single channel CMW500 stand alone, means without the help from additional equipment such as spectrum analyzers e.g. for spurious measurements or signal generators e.g. for blocking measurements. To see which tests can be covered in addition when using such additional equipment or a dual channel CMW500 please always refer to the latest CMW500 capability list which can be found on the CMW customer web. https://extranet.rohde-schwarz.com

Introduction How to use save files in CMW500

1.1 How to use save files in CMW500
Save file are a convenient way of saving and restoring settings for certain test requirements that you might want to perform over and over again. They contain the current settings of CMW500 parameters. Save files can also be used to easily move settings from one CMW500 to another one by saving the settings on the CMW500 and recall them on the target CMW500. For your convenience this application note comes with a set of save files for all the described tests. To use them press SAVE/RCL key on the top left of the CMW500 front panel.

Then follow the dialog to locate your save files and select the one you want to recall. Do so by pressing the recall button on the top right.

In order to perform the tests with your own device please make sure to transfer the described example to the operation band you use in your DUT. Test frequency settings should be taken from TS36.1. Most of the transmitter tests should be performed at the lowest and highest supported bandwidth as well as 5MHz bandwidth.2. Applicable channel bandwidths should follow the rule from TS36.1 Bandwidth and Frequency setting rules Frequencies and channel bandwidths are checked separately for each E-UTRA operating band which is supported by the UE.1. In order to perform each test strictly according to specification the tests would need to be repeated for the different bandwidths and channels as explained.508 Table 4. 1CM94_0e Rohde & Schwarz LTE RF measurements with CMW500 according to 3GPP TS36. Therefore these demos are concentrating on one operation band.1.3. Therefore the below frequencies/channels will need to be set up Table 2. one bandwidth and one channel only.1. Based on the operating band (OB) and channel bandwidth to be tested the low range.Transmitter Characteristics Generic Call Setup for Transmitter Characteristics 2. middle range and high range channel and frequency information can be found.521-1 6 . Most of the transmitter tests should be performed in low range. middle range and high range channels.1-1 and the requirement from the test configuration table for each test case. but some tests such as configured UE transmitted output power or occupied bandwidth should be performed only in the middle range channel.2 Demonstration introduction After each test case description a short demo is added throughout this application note to illustrate the use of the CMW500 for each test item.4. In the examples used in this application note operating band 7 and 10MHz as well as 20MHz bandwidth will be used. However some tests need to be performed at 10MHz bandwidth in addition and some tests such as occupied bandwidth are to be performed at all bandwidth.521 Table 5.

2.2.2.3) 2. The core concept for this test is that the higher order modulation scheme (16QAM) and a big number of allocated RBs (e.3-1 is based on meeting the requirements for adjacent channel leakage ratio and the maximum power reduction (MPR) due to Cubic Metric (CM).
