ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY DEMOCRATS ENDORSE MATT CASTELLI TO UNSEAT

LYIN’ ELISE STAFANIK

Potsdam—Five candidates have announced their intentions to challenge Elise Stefanik in New York’s
21st Congressional District in next year’s election. Ezra Watson, Matt Putorti, Bridie Farrell, Keith
Sherrill and Matt Castelli have all entered the race to remove Stefanik from office. Putorti, Farrell and
Castelli met with members of the St. Lawrence County Democratic Committee on November 18 in
Potsdam. Following the discussion, the Committee voted to endorse Matt Castelli. Acknowledging
three abstentions, the vote was otherwise unanimous for Castelli.

Chairman of the St. Lawrence County Democratic Committee’s Committee to Elect, Jason Clark, has
issued the following statement:

“Our committee has a history of endorsing the strongest candidate in Congressional races
early in the process. In a race that will unfortunately require an enormous fundraising effort,
it’s important that we give the best candidate the best chance on winning. Matt Castelli is
that candidate.

If we have learned anything from previous races, it’s that a crowded primary field hinders the
overall effort to defeat Lyin’ Elise. Having multiple candidates in the race is unsustainable as it
dilutes financial and human resources.

The twelve County Democratic Committee Chairs told each of the candidates that we would
observe their races from a distance through the summer and fall and then evaluate the state
of the race and assess the viability of each candidate after this past November’s election. Our
committee did exactly that. The other committees are doing the same.”
