In late 2019, we began the process of revisioning, with a projected start date of
March 2020. I believe we all know what happened to put that project on hold. That
vision, though paused, was never diminished. By the grace of God, I was
introduced to Rev. Tom Friedrichs of Alongside Ministries. He has spoken for me
before and his ministry is to help pastors and congregations, particularly in small,
rural settings. In conversation with Rev. Friedrichs, I discerned the best way for
APC to walk through a process of revitalization is not so much with me at the helm,
but under the leadership of another. This way, after the time of research and
discernment has past, I can better serve our church in leading us through our
united and new vision. In another act of God’s grace, this past November we were
awarded a $2,000 grant from the Presbytery for the purpose of church
redevelopment.
Therefore, I am pleased to announce the following timeline for our refocusing on
God’s commission.
I. Inventory
A. Introduction to Rev. Friedrichs on Sunday, January 9th.
B. Congregational inventory on Sunday, January 16th.
C. Session inventory on Sunday, January 23rd.
D. First meeting with revitalization team on Sunday, January 30th.
II. Interpretation
A. Second meeting with revitalization team on Sunday, February 13th.
B. Future meetings to be determined.
III. Innovation
A. After defining God’s plan, now we strategize measurable goals for 5
years, 3 years, 1 year, and 90 days.
IV. Implementation
A. Put plan into action and begin meeting goals.
I am in need to 3-4 volunteers who are interested and willing to invest time and
energy on the revitalization team. We will consult with the whole congregation and
work in tandem with the Session, but the majority of the foot work will be done by
the revitalization team. I need your help. If you care deeply about the future of APC,
I strongly encourage you to be part of this team.
I’m also in need of a prayer team; folks willing to put in the precious work of lifting
up the revitalization team in prayer.
