The aim of every man and woman in this world is to lead a God oriented life. This fact is revealed in all religious scriptures, such as the following exhortation of Bhagavad Gita (18:65): Manmana bhava madbhakto madyaji mam namaskuru Mam evaisyasi satyam te pratijane priyo si me Translation: Just think of Me, be my devotee, worship Me, offer obeisance unto Me; certainly you will come to Me; I verily promise this, since you are dear to Me. Explanation: God reveals the essential secret, with the instruction to focus our mind on Him with devotion. Mam namaskuru implies enshrining God in the heart with utmost love. It does not mean a mere genuflection, but a sublime expression of sincere gratitude and humility. If a person can achieve such an exalted state of exclusive loving devotion in life, then God promises that He will grant the highest reward of association in the eternal spiritual world. This divine promise is not to be taken lightly as being just metaphorical or flowery speech. Absolute devotion and submission to God is also required by the Bible (New Testament, Matthew 6:9,10): Sic ergo vos orabitis : Pater noster, qui es in cælis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum; fiat voluntas tua, sicut in cælo et in terra. Translation: Thus therefore shall you pray: Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Explanation: The prayer is a heart-felt acknowledgment of God as our heavenly Father (Creator and Sustainer). It is also a solemn pledge to lead our lives as desired by God, although we temporarily enjoy freedom here on earth, while the heavenly sphere has no such freedom and is eternally bound by immutable laws under God’s command. The Quran (1:2-4) similarly enjoins us that only God is worthy of worship: Al-hamdu lillaahi rabbil-alamin ar-rahmaanir-rahim maaliki yawmid-din iyyaakana-buduwa iyyaaka nasta-in Translation: All praise is due to God, the Lord of the Universe; the Beneficent, the Merciful; Lord of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and to You alone we turn for help. Explanation: Ultimate gratitude is expressed to God as the Creator and Sustainer of the universe; God’s essential attributes are mercy and compassion. This means that if we
