Stroke Awareness Month
Stroke is the third leading cause of death and a leading cause of disability in America, but many people do not realize how educating themselves and others will help reduce the incidence of stroke. What is a stroke? A stroke is a "brain attack" that occurs when a blood clot blocks a blood vessel in the brain interrupting blood flow to an area. The area of the brain that is dependant on the blood vessel can die or become very damaged. Since the brain is the area of the body that controls everything else, brain damage is seen throughout the body. When brain cells die during a stroke, abilities controlled by that area of the brain are lost. These abilities include speech, movement and memory. How a stroke patient is affected depends on where the stroke occurs in the brain and how much the brain is damaged. Some people recover completely from strokes, but more than 2/3 of survivors will have some type of disability. It’s not that those parts of the body are damaged; the brain that controls those parts of the body is damaged. Stroke Risk Factors Anyone can have a stroke no matter your age, race or gender. But, the chances of having a stroke increase if a person has certain risk factors, or criteria that can cause a stroke. The good news is that up to 80 percent of strokes can be prevented, and the best way to protect yourself and loved ones from stroke is to understand personal risk and how to manage it. There are 2 types of risk factors for stroke: controllable and uncontrollable. Controllable risk factors can be changed by the individual. Uncontrollable risk factors can not be changed. Controllable Risk Factors That Affect Original People: High Blood Pressure Diabetes Tobacco Use and Smoking Alcohol Use Physical Inactivity Obesity Uncontrollable Risk Factors: Age Gender Race Family History Previous Stroke or TIA Sickle Cell Anemia As with many diseases, Original people fall victim to this condition more frequently than colored people. In any given year, 100,000 Original people will have a stroke, and stroke is the third leading cause of death in our community. It’s important to get the facts about your stroke risk and learn how you can minimize risk factors. Medical authorities want to blame our increased risk on factors such as ignorance, lifestyle and lack of medical treatment. I tend to disagree. Why? That’s another build. I want to keep this unopinionated. Stroke symptoms include: SUDDEN numbness or weakness of face, arm or leg - especially on one side of the body. SUDDEN confusion, trouble speaking or understanding. SUDDEN trouble seeing in one or both eyes. SUDDEN trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination. SUDDEN severe headache with no known cause. If this happens to you or a loved on, call 911 or go to the hospital IMMEDIATELY. If you have risk factors and a family history for strokes, it is important that you partner with your chosen health care practitioner to prevent your from having one. The damage caused is often irreversible. Peace, Serenity

What Being a Mother Means to Me
I pondered this question for several days when I was first presented with the request to build on this topic. I could easily describe the role I play in the lives of others, yet had never asked myself what my position meant to me. been right and exact, and deleting them from my existence all together has been a growing process in it’s self. I am able to look back and take the best part for myself as well as cee the difference in how I perceive and react to things. sional teaching to her babies that 85 children do not get. True indeed, other mothers feed their children the right things, but may not teach them all they need to know or teach them about their history. Yet it is the Earth Mother that shows and proves our culture through her wisdom. Making sure her babies eat the right things, learn the right lessons and carry them according to our culture.
Being a mother has been one of the hardest things I have ever done. Raising two sons is not easy. As a woman I can teach them everything on one end of the scale and nothing on the other. I can teach my boys the importance of being a good righteous man, yet I could not teach them how to pee. I will say that I have learned as much as I have taught.
“If the Negro is not careful he will drink in all the poison of modern civilization and die from the effects of it.”
Being an Earth has also had its ups and downs in my life. Taking bits and pieces of myself that I thought made me who I was that may not have
MOTHER and EARTH share the same letters except for the A and M. The “A” being for Allah and the “M” being for master. Allah and his teachings are the difference between being Mother and Earth. “M” and Other are combined reflecting that as a mother we master others in our lives. Our children are known and mastered by us because we carry and nurture them, as well as prepare and groom them for life.
Being a mother has made me a better woman. Being Earth has made me better at the two.

I know you have seen people choking in public. Usually it’s when they are eating. As soon as they realize that they can’t breathe, they thrash and flail around until people around them offer them some help. I’m certain that you have choked as well. And some well meaning bystander slaps you on the back or performs the Heimlich on you until your breath returns. But what happens when you are all by yourself? You can perform your own Heimlich save your own self. Instructions 1- Make a fist with one hand and place it against your abdomen, just above the navel, with the thumb facing in toward your body. 2- Place your other hand over your closed fist. 3- Push your fist into your abdomen, using a quick, hard, thrusting motion. The direction of movement should be up and in. 4- Repeat the thrusts several times, trying to dislodge the obstruction. If this doesn't work, you will want to use a flat-edged object instead of your fist. 5- Find a hard, flat-edged surface such as a chair back or the edge of a table. A counter top or railing may also work. 6- Place your abdomen against the surface edge, again just above the navel. Bend your upper body over the hard edge to get better leverage. 7- Thrust your abdomen against the surface, hard and fast. If you are using a chair back, you can pull yourself down against the chair to increase the force of your thrusts. 8- Call 911. If the object is still lodged in your throat, leave the phone off the hook and continue performing the Heimlich on yourself until help arrives. Be Safe.
The FDA has become two of the worlds biggest scam artists. They teach the people how to eat the wrong foods until the point of illness, then, they give them further poisons (medications) in the disguise of treatment for the illness. Well in most cases the medications suppresses the said illness, only for it to emerge again so that they can continue to get rich from the labor of your illness by having you purchase more drugs. Plus the side effects are designed to cause other illnesses in the body requiring you to have a need to purchase more drugs/poison. It should not take a rocket scientist for us to know that we MUST discover and manifest new/ancient methods of healthcare beginning with what we consume. So loved ones, upon your journey of freedom from eating the wrong foods and taking the wrong medications here are a few questions you may want to ask your Doctors, Pharmacists, and/or Nurses as you are making your transition from the unnatural to the natural way of healing. These questions will help you learn more about yourself and give you more of an idea of the direction your personal healing is going or not going. 1. What are your meds made of? 2. Who makes and distributes the meds? 3. What does the meds chemically and physically do to me? 4. Where are the meds made? 5. What is the goal of the manufacturers of the meds? 6. What are the side effects? 7. What are the most dangerous side effects of the meds? When seeking answers about your meds remember that you have the right to know anything that you seek to learn about what is going into your body. Besides, the more you know the better your decision making process will be. One more thing, when making the transition from perhaps using medications to more holistic healthcare, consult your doctor and natural healthcare professional combined as to each decision you are making. Peace, Tawa Culture/Rule/097 reassured you have in fact been listening and that they haven't been wasting their time. If you haven't been listening then point out why and what they can do to get you to listen. "Sometimes I don't listen to you because you talk to me about things unrelated to this job and I'm real busy." "I try to listen to you but you often start speaking to me without finding out if I can spare a few moments to talk with you........... So you just start speaking and I keep right on working." In this way you're finding what can work for both of you instead of one of you settling for an undesirable outcome. This is called collaboration. At the end of the day the person who controls conflict will control the terms of the peace. "You want to speak with me during the day, but I'm busy and can't always talk with you so get at me at lunch time." It's all about showing and proving and that is what we teach in Allah's Nation. Be the person with the POWER. Peace
Workplace Conflict Resolution Cont…..
This is an add on from last month's article. Getting along in the workplace is a skill set which can greatly enhance your career. Using some of the below concepts and practices can get you in doors that may have previously been closed. Don't be a victim of your own workplace sabotage. Open your third eye and do the knowledge on how to get along in your job environment. If you remember the things I said last time you'll recognize that what I'm speaking about today is a little more subtle and more to do with workplace conflict once the conflict is already in motion. These concepts can be applied to any kind of conflict but for today we'll focus on the workplace. Here's a few concepts we'll be discussing today: Maintain eye contact Reflective listening Mirror who you have conflict with Collaborate don't compromise Whoever controls the conflict controls the peace Now let's say a coworker is yelling and screaming at you about something and you want to resolve the conflict. Establishing rapport is something you want to do right from the gate. An example of establishing rapport is making and keeping eye contact. This will let the person with the issue know you're focused on them. A person who knows you're paying attention is more likely to feel better about communicating with you. Also keep in mind to respond to what the person is upset about by repeating back to them what they're saying. If the person says something to you like "You never listen to me and I feel like I'm wasting my time." You'll respond by saying, "So you're frustrated because you think I'm not paying attention to you." This goes hand in hand with the eye contact because again, you're reassuring the person that you are in fact paying attention. Make sure you're under control when you deal with this person. When you're under control then you can mirror the person without being emotionally tied to the individual. Let's say you're both sitting down, if the other person gets louder and stands up, then you stand up too. When you respond match the loudness of your voice with theirs. As you're speaking you can begin backing down on how loud you are, thus bringing the energy back down. You can sit back down and/or invite the other person to sit down also. Mirror their energy then add on to it in the direction you want it to go. Ask the person what they want. In this case the person is saying they want you to listen to them and they don't want to feel like they're wasting time by speaking to you. This is your chance to clarify what's been happening. If you've been listening to this person in the past then point out what they can look for to be

Q. What can I do for my Seasonal Allergies?
I used to have the worst seasonal allergies (hay fever) of anyone I knew. In college, I took Botany in the spring. That was a bad idea. That class used to shut me down, so much in fact that several classes ended early because I was suffering yet refused to leave.

Becoming a vegetarian helped me with these allergies, but through the years they have redeveloped. Not to the degree that they once were, but enough to cause me to seek out OTC medication. But OTC histamines can be derived from animal sources. So where does that leave the vegetarian Serenity? The neti pot has been a lifesaver during the allergy season. A neti pot is a small kettle that you fill with a solution and pour it one nostril through the nasal passages and out of the other nostril. This action washes debris from the nasal passages. The science behind how this works is the passages are convoluted and lined with small hairs that trap debris. Mucous aids in this process. The hairs trap debris and mucous then comes and encases it. It’s volume forces you to expel it from the nose or swallow it. Either way your nose is clear. I use a small amount of salt and warm tap water that fills the vessel. Too much salt burns and causes your eyes to tear. Salt causes an osmotic variant that pulls fluid from the nasal tissues and expels it with the water. There are different recipes depending on the person who is advocating the process. I prefer simplicity. And I have instant relief without feeling drowsy or adding excess chemicals to my body. I encourage you to do the knowledge and try it out for yourself.

DIY Laundry Soap Recipe
Most people don’t realize that soap is not a vegetarian product or may contain swine in the form of lard or tallow. Do the 1 on soap making. It requires some type of fat or oil. That’s why vegetarian soaps are so expensive. Vegetable oil costs more than tallow or lard. That goes for laundry soap too. I find it hypocritical that folks forbid swine by mouth, but its okay in various and sundry products that touch them intimately. I have made homemade laundry soap before. I have not been wowed by the results, but I am a dedicated Tide user and I don’t think anything can compete with that. But when I used this formula and dried the clothes on a line in the sunshine I had clean fresh clothes. That’s part of the formula… sunny line dried clothes. As the Sun brightens and freshens clothes. There is Jewel in there. There are a million internet recipes. Some make a dry soap others make a liquid soap. Fels Naphtha or Zote are soaps that are normally used for this recipe. But they contains tallow so it’s not a vegetarian product. You can use Castille or any vegetable soap bar in it’s place. Castille soap is made from olive oil. And unless the soap says vegetarian, it’s not. This recipe is dirt cheap compared to commercial laundry soap. Be your own judge…. Recipe 1 standard bar of soap (I like Dr Bronners soap) 1 cup borax 1 cup washing soda That’s it! Grade the soap. Get it as fine as possible run it through the processor or blender if you have to. Big chucks won’t dissolve Peace in the machine. Especially cold water. Blend all the ingredients together in a jar or container Shake before you use them to ensure equal distribution. Use 1-3 Tablespoons per load. You might have to play with this until you figure put what is appropriate. 1 cup of white vinegar makes a fine liquid fabric softener Hit me at my email if you try this and testify
