May 14.The Fifth day of the month

of Iyar, the year of 5708 in
Tel Aviv. Hours before the end of
the British Mandate over Palestine,
at number 6 of Rothschild Avenue,
which previously belonged to the
president of the chamber of Tel Aviv
- the home of Dizengoff - (now a
museum), David Ben Gurion
proclaimed the independence of the
State of Israel.
 Sendo uma sexta-feira, a cerimônia
começou às 16:00 horas, a fim de
terminar antes do pôr do sol, para o
devido cumprimento do Shabbat
judaico. Após 2000 anos de exílio o
povo Judeu podia voltar a existir
como nação independente. À hora
prevista, David Ben Gurion ergue-se.

(O Hino Nacional hebraico).
Being a Friday, the ceremony
started at four o`clock p.m. in order
to finish before sunrise for the
celebration of the Jewish Shabbat.
After 2000 years of exile the
Jewish people could come back
into existence as an independent
country. At the previewed time,
David Ben Gurion stands up.

 Os acordes da Hatikvah
ecoaram novamente pela sala,
sob um silêncio profundo da
assistência. Eram 16 horas e
37 minutos. Ben Gurion bateu
mais uma vez sobre a mesa e
declarou:
The chords of Hatikvah
echoed again through the room,
under a deep silence of the
assistance. It was four hours and
thirty seven minutes. Ben Gurion
once again knocked on the table and
said:
“Nasceu o Estado de Israel.”
