Invitation, Introduction and Programme

. This year’s meeting is being hosted by Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. These will be the focus of the excursion on the final day of the summer school. Dessau and in Bernberg. as with anything else. the benefit that you get out of something is in proportion to the effort you put in... The 2011 LE:NOTRE III Summer School is the annual meeting of the LE:NOTRE Project.LE:NOTRE III Summer School 2011. This means we will be able to meet the participants of these events during our breaks and share the evening programmes. You cannot afford to miss it. but it also lies close to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Wörlitz Gardens. and we hope that many schools will take advantage of this opportunity to send more than one person.. and thereby indirectly for our discipline. the project grant allows us to cover the travel and subsistence costs of one person from each active LE:NOTRE III member institution. and the Dessau/Bernburg Summer School is a key element in this strategy. but rather we hope you will ask what you can do for LE:NOTRE. But this funding support can also be split between two or more people. this is an event at which your school should be represented as it will play a vital role in helping to shape the future of collaboration between Europe’s landscape architecture schools. As previously. Dessau is not only home to the Bauhaus. “Your School is hereby invited to participate in the 2011 LE:NOTRE Summer School. so we hope it will not be a case of how you can get away with the minimum. and the main venue for this year’s meeting will be the historic Bauhaus in Dessau. As an added bonus. But of course. the LE:NOTRE Summer School will take place in parallel with two other important events: the Bauhaus Lectures and the Digital Landscape Architecture Conference. and LE:NOTRE is ECLAS’s European Union supported landscape architecture network.. As a formal member of the Network. It is the aim of the LE:NOTRE Project to strengthen the European landscape architecture academic community. Whether or not you school is a formal member of LE:NOTRE III. Finally. by Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. Dessau and Bernburg.” This is ‘an invitation you can’t refuse’. your school is committed to contribute to the project and the ‘Letter of Intent’ which you have provided outlines these obligations at a minimum level. DE Hosted by Anhalt University of Applied Sciences An INVITATION. which is being hosted at the Bauhaus.

. and aim to bring together colleagues from across Europe who have similar teaching responsibilities and research interests. research and what we have called: innovative practice.LE:NOTRE III Summer School 2011. DE Hosted by Anhalt University of Applied Sciences An INTRODUCTION. These will again be structured according to the twelve topics which arose out of the previous LE:NOTRE Projects and which are part of the ‘Tuning’ Document. Within these Departments we hope that the future activities of the LE:NOTRE Institute in the context of the fields of Education.” Behind all the individual outputs of the LE:NOTRE III Project. and the first activities of this will be part of the Dessau Summer School. Research and Innovative Practice can be developed from the bottom up by groups which can set common agendas on the basis of shared motivations. which themselves are part of one of the outputs as described above. The LE:NOTRE Institute is to be structured around the three pillars of the so-called ‘knowledge triangle’: education.. In Dessau we will begin with ‘Education’ and the theme of the meeting is ‘Teaching Landscape Architecture’... These will be the three ‘Divisions’ of the Institute. . and it will be possible to participate in up to four different workshops. “The 2011 LE:NOTRE Summer School is the first of the three annual meetings to be held during the LE:NOTRE III Project. lies one major goal. Dessau and Bernburg. For this the plan is to re-launch what were formerly known as the ‘Working Groups’ as the new ‘Departments’ of the LE:NOTRE Institute. It will help to set the agenda for the long term future of the project. One of the outputs of LE:NOTRE III is the establishment of a ‘staff development body’. one day of this year’s Summer School will be devoted to a series of workshops on various landscape architecture pedagogical themes. and should use these to prepare for the Summer School and to follow up the outcomes in future. namely to secure the achievements of LE:NOTRE for the long term and to make it sustainable. The establishment of the ‘LE:NOTRE Institute’ is the key to this and the Dessau Summer School will represent the first step in this direction. as a new departure for LE:NOTRE. we will also need to make some progress on two of the other outputs. In addition to the workshops. The new Departments already have their own collaborative web space on the LE:NOTRE web site. Each of the three annual meetings in the course of LE:NOTRE III will have one of these three pillars as its focus. Consequently.
