Radiologic / Mammographic Technologist - Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Operates fixed and portable radiographic/ mammographic equipment to produce quality diagnostic images of designated portions of the body. Assists Director and Office Coordinator with required additional responsibilities within mammography. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Demonstrates considerable initiative and judgment in determining proper anatomical positioning for areas to be radiographed, calculating exposure techniques and evaluating mammographic/radiographic images for high diagnostic quality • Demonstrates a good working knowledge of anatomy, physics and exposure techniques to obtain high quality mammographic/radiographic images • Demonstrates a professional working knowledge of all mammographic/radiographic equipment to include PACS, Electronic Medical Record (EMR), computer systems, and imaging inspections. • Prepares, maintains and generates QA/QC, MQSA, and critical finding data as it pertains to mammography standards set forth by the FDA and ACR for accredited facilities • Must be knowledgeable in processor QA/QC and maintenance of mammography equipment as it pertains to FDA guidelines stated in MQSA • Protects the unaffected areas of the patient from x-rays with the use of lead protectors • Uses immobilization devices to prevent involuntary movement of patients • Assists Director and Office Coordinator in meeting department goals • Prepares barium sulfate solutions and administers contrast to render organs more opaque; assists radiologist with administration of contrast medias • Assists physicians with mammographic/radiographic procedures and biopsies using aseptic techniques as necessary • Sets up and operates stationary or mobile mammographic/radiographic equipment • Properly uses venous puncture techniques for contrast injection • Must be able to recognize contrast media reactions • Assists Director in orientation of new mammography staff • Assists Director with continuing education and training of mammography staff • Responsible for establishing, maintaining, and ordering supplies for mammography/radiography • Demonstrates the ability to communicate and receive constructive feedback in a positive manner • Responsibility for establishing and maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships with all staff members • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding knowledge of all patient information (HIPAA), staff and hospital confidential business • Age(s) of patient served and age-specific technology
