c Tun Dr.

Mahathir bin Mohamad is one who has affected my life and changed me to

make a change in the world.

Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad was born and raised at his parents¶ home in a poor

neighbourhood of Alor Star, the capital of the state Kedah Darul Aman. Tun Dr. Mahathir did

his early and secondary education in his home town. In 1947, he gained admission into the

King Edward VII College of Medicine in Singapore.Upon graduation, he joined the

Malaysian government service as a Medical Officer. He left in 1957 to set up his own practice

in Alor Setar.

Tun Dr. Mahathir has been active in politics since 1945. He has been a member of the

United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) since its inception in 1946.He was first

elected as a Member of Parliament following the General Elections in 1964. However, he lost

his seat in the subsequent General Election in 1969. Owing to his keen interest in the

country's education, he was appointed Chairman of the first Higher Education Council in

1968, Member of the Higher Education Advisory Council in 1972, Member of the University

Court and University of Malaya Council, and Chairman of the National University Council in

1974.

One of his achievement that changed in the world is creating the Penang Bridge.

Penang Bridge is a dual-carriageway toll bridge connects Gelugor on the island of Penang and

Seberang Prai on the mainland of Malaysia on the Malay Peninsula. The bridge is also linked

to the North-South Expressway in Prai and Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway in Penang. It

was officially opened to traffic on September 14, 1985. The total length of the bridge is

13.5 km (8.4 miles), making it the longest bridge in Malaysia as and the fourth-longest in

Southeast Asia.
In order to achieve the status of a developed country, Tun Dr. Mahathir has

conceptualized VISION 2020, where by the year 2020 Malaysia is expected to be a fully

developed country. The purpose of this paper is to present before you some thoughts on the

future course of our nation and how we should go about to attain our objective of developing

Malaysia into an industrialised country.

In the late 1990s, Tun Dr. Mahathir has taken steps to enable Malaysia to face the future by

establishing the MULTIMEDIA SUPER CORRIDOR (MSC), which emphasizes 'Information

Technology"(IT) as very important asset for the country in the new millennium. The

Multimedia Super Corridor aims to attract companies with attractive tax breaks and facilities

such as high speed internet and proximity to the local international airport, Kuala Lumpur

International Airport. The Multimedia Development Corporation - MDeC (formerly MDC)

was created to oversee development of the MSC.

Besides, I have attracted to his speech to the Tenth Islamic Conference Putrajaya,

Malaysia on 16 October 2003. He said ³It cannot be that there is no other way. 1.3 billion

Muslims cannot be defeated by a few million Jews. There must be a way. And we can only

find a way if we stop to think, to assess our weaknesses and our strength, to plan, to strategise

and then to counter attack. As Muslims we must seek guidance from the Al-Quran and the

Sunnah of the Prophet. Surely the 23 years' struggle of the Prophet can provide us with some

guidance as to what we can and should do´. This show he apply Al-Quran and Sunnah in his

action.

Last but not least, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad has been my inspiration that has

affected my life. I hope, I can change the world and make world always in peaceful.
