Mark 10:42-45

accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones
exercise authority upon them.
43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be
your minister:
44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to
give his life a ransom for many.

When you walk with the Lord you walk opposite of the world.

Matt 18:4-7
4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest

I want to talk to you about a servant in the Old Testament that you don’t
hear a lot about. His name is Eliezer, Abraham’s servant.

Gen 15:2-3
2 And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the
steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my
house is mine heir.

God had given Abraham a great promise concerning his seed, yet God
had not allowed Sarah to have a child. They had waited 10 years at this time and
Abraham had taken Eliezer and made him HEIR of his house. He asked the Lord
to let him be his heir, but God said, No. The heir would be of his seed.
Sarah asked Abraham to take her maiden and let her bare a child of his
seed. When Ishmael was 13 years,.old, God appeared again unto Abraham and
Abraham asked God to accept Ishmael. Again, God said, No. When a male and
female join in marriage, they become one! The promise was to both Abraham
and Sarah. God would not leave her out.
Gen 17:15-21
15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name
Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.
16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she
shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.
17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in
his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall
Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?
18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before
thee!
19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call
his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting cov-
enant, and with his seed after him.
20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will
make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he be-
get, and I will make him a great nation.
21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at
this set time in the next year.

When Isaac was 40 years old, we read of Eliezar once again. He is still
running the house as a faithful servant, even though he knows he is no longer heir.
Eliezer seems to have loved serving Abraham, even though his hope of being heir
was gone. Abraham sent Eliezer to get a bride for Isaac. We learn much about
his character while on this trip.
Here is his prayer to the Lord.

MONTHLY REPORT
FAITHFULNESS! You cannot know the encouragement I get
from Tid Bit’s faithful supporters. This is Tid Bits sixteenth year and there
are about eight people who have faithfully supported this work. I do not
take lightly the sacrifices of those that make it possible to do what God has
called me to do. Every time Tid Bits needs extra funds, God puts it on the
heart of someone to give over and above. For sixteen years we have never
been without the needs of this work. Someone asked me a few days ago
to let them know if Tid Bits needed anything. I told them I will tell God
about our needs and He will call them and let them know. We freely give
the paper and God touches the hearts of people who share with us. That
way we are sure God is pleased with our work.
The second part of this work is the writing of the articles. If God
doesn’t put the thoughts in my heart, then I have nothing to write. Some-
times it comes easy and some times it comes at the last minute. I don’t
know who will be reading the paper, but God does. I trust Him to put in
my heart something from God’s word that will encourage you to trust Him
and give you strength to continue to work by faith.
The last days began when Jesus ascended into the heavens, so we
most assuredly are in the last days today. If Jesus came back today, would
He find us faithful? Would He find us living by faith or would He find us
living like the rest of the world? We serve an Awesome God!!!!

Gen 24:12-14
12 And he said, O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good
speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.
13 Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the
city come out to draw water:
14 And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy
pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy
camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant
Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.

Eliezer had learned from Abraham the importance of prayer. He called
Him the God of his master, but it is obvious that He was also his God because of
his dependency on God. When he saw that God had answered his prayer, this was
his response.
Gen 24:26-27
26 And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the
Lord.
27 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who hath not left
destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the Lord led me
to the house of my master’s brethren.

Eliezer was invited to her house and they made a meal for him, but he
would not eat until he told them why he came. He would not take advantage of
them. He also told them that Abraham had made Isaac heir of all he had. He
knew he was no longer heir, but it didn’t change his love or his service for his
master.
Paul said he had learned how to be abased and how to abound.
Matt 23:12
12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble
himself shall be exalted.
Phil 4:12-13
12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in
all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to
suffer need.
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

We need to strive to be like Eliezer. Wherever God puts us in the body of
Christ, we are to be willing to serve. Not only to serve but to serve with a willing
spirit. All those years that God asked Abraham and Sarah to wait for a son, God
gave them Eliezer to love and trust and to serve their needs. Eliezer was God’s
provision while they waited.
Have you not received your promise yet? Look around and see if God
has provided you an Eliezer to meet your needs while you wait.
I want to be God’s Eliezer to others. Not just to please others but to
please God and be used of God in other’s lives. How about you???

When I read those telegrams, years later, I was troubled that Daddy Lois Garcia

preach and finally this opportunity came. I had promised him when we got mar-
ried, that I would take as much of the burden of the family as I could, so he could

be free to do what God called him to do. I kept my promise to him, and I did it
with all my heart.”
Because Mother took on herself those tasks a husband usually performed,
Daddy was able to reach literally millions of people with the Gospel. It meant he
was away from home as much as three weeks out of four.
Some home tasks Mother did herself. I remember seeing her at the top
of a ladder perilously putting a heavy storm window on an upstairs window.
Some tasks she assigned to her all-girl household, which meant we learned not to
think of tasks in male/female roles. If something needed to be done, no one said,
“Daddy will fix it when he gets home.” Somebody found a way to fix it.
Mother saw to it that the lawn was mowed, that repairs were made to the
house, that vehicles were properly maintained, and that the hand-fired coal fur-
nace was tended and stoked by us girls taking turns each week. (Walt and I loved
that particular assignment in our courting days. The basement was the only place
in that three-story home where we could have a private conversation!) Mother
was the epitome of Colossians 3:23,24:
23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye
serve the Lord Christ.

But you must understand that Mother paid an incredibly high price for
her unselfish choices. I remember, one Saturday morning, watching her climb
the stairs to her bedroom. She’d just come back from taking Daddy to the train
station for another of his innumerable weeks-long trips. I saw her wipe the tears
from her eyes, and then resolutely take the next step up to meet her next obliga-
tion. How well she hid her tears! And how great will be her reward in Heaven!
This article meant a lot to me. My daddy took churches that were closing
their doors and he would bring them to life and then we would move to the next
church. Daddy roofed houses from early in the morning till noon. Then he would
build the church in the afternoon. I never went to a school for a whole year. My
mother accepted whatever the cost to let daddy do God’s work. She never com-
plained about where she had to live (and believe me some places where a real
challenge!)
It’s attitudes that make or break a home, not circumstances. Circum-
stances do not make or break you. They REVEAL YOU!
How are you handling your circumstances? My mother gave me my
daddy. Had mother not loved serving daddy, then my sister and I might not have
admired him so.
Prov 14:1
