1.4. PRODUCTS OR SERVICES OFFERED:

PowerTecK manufactures various types of power and control panels’ i.e.

1.4.1 Motor Control Centers (MCC)

1.4.2 Power Distribution Boards
1.4.3 PLC Based Control Panels
1.4.4 Power Factor Improvement Plants (PFIP)
1.4.5 Auto transfer switches, with and without PLC based (ATS)
1.4.6 Synchronizing Panel, with & without PLC based
1.4.7 Relay Control Panel
1.4.8 Bus tied ducts
1.4.9 Meter boards
1.4.10 Cable Trays

1.4.1 Motor Control Centers (MCC):

A motor controller is a device or group of devices that serves to govern in some predetermined
manner the performance of an electric motor. A motor controller might include a manual or
automatic means for starting and stopping the motor, selecting forward or reverse rotation,
selecting and regulating the speed, regulating or limiting the torque, and protecting against
overloads and faults.
Every electric motor has a controller. The motor controller will have differing features and
complexity depending on the task that the motor will be performing.
Motor controllers can be manually, remotely or automatically operated. They may include only
the means for starting and stopping the motor or they may include other functions.

1.4.2 Power Distribution Boards:

A distribution board (or panel board) is a component of an electricity supply system which
divides an electrical power feed into subsidiary circuits, while providing a protective fuse or
circuit breaker for each circuit, in a common enclosure. Normally, a main switch, and in recent
boards, one or more Residual-current devices (RCD) or Residual Current Breakers with Over
current protection (RCBO), will also be incorporated.
Power Distribution boards are also known as;

 breaker panel
 fuse board

1.4.3 PLC Based Control Panels:

A programmable logic controller (PLC) or programmable controller is a digital computer used

for automation of electromechanical processes, such as control of machinery on factory assembly
lines, amusement rides, or lighting fixtures. PLCs are used in many industries and machines.
Unlike general-purpose computers, the PLC is designed for multiple inputs and output
arrangements, extended temperature ranges, immunity to electrical noise, and resistance to
vibration and impact. Programs to control machine operation are typically stored in battery-
backed or non-volatile memory.

1.4.4 Power Factor Improvement Plants (PFIP):

Power Factor is a measure of how efficiently electrical power is consumed. In the ideal world
Power Factor would be unity (or 1). Unfortunately in the real world Power Factor is reduced by
highly inductive loads to 0.7 or less. This induction is caused by equipment such as lightly
loaded electric motors, luminary transformers and fluorescent lighting ballasts and welding sets,
etc.

1.4.5 Auto transfer switches, with and without PLC based (ATS):

AMF panel is the short form of Auto Man Failure panel. It is normally connected to the
generator set to control the generator set function. It can call the generator set if the AMF further
connected to the Main Switch Board which equipped with auto transfer switch/automatic
changeover contactor. While normal supply serve to main switch board failed, the AMF board
will send the power failure signal to generator set. Then the generator set will run and serve the
supply to main switch board.

1.4.6 Synchronizing Panel, with & without PLC based:

Synchronization panels are mainly designed and used to meet power system requirements. These
panels provide manual as well as automatic synchronizing function for one or more generator
breakers. They are widely used in synchronizing generators and offering multiplexing solutions.

1.4.7 Relay Control Panel:

A relay is an electrically operated switch. Many relays use an electromagnet to operate a

switching mechanism mechanically, but other operating principles are also used. Relays are used
where it is necessary to control a circuit by a low-power signal (with complete electrical isolation
between control and controlled circuits), or where several circuits must be controlled by one
signal. The first relays were used in long distance telegraph circuits, repeating the signal coming
in from one circuit and re-transmitting it to another. Relays were used extensively in telephone
exchanges and early computers to perform logical operations.
1.4.8 Bus tied ducts:

Busways, or bus ducts, are long busbars with a protective cover. Rather than branching the main
supply at one location, they allow new circuits to branch off anywhere along the route of the
busway.

1.4.9 Meter boards:

The control panel, usually a switching station's control panel, on which the main switch and
related equipment are mounted. Historically meters have the largest components on the panel,
thus the name, but a meter board doesn't necessarily need to have meters or gauges to be referred
to by this term. Newer meter boards may feature built-in computer screens in place of actual
meters.

1.4.10 Cable Trays:

In the electrical wiring of buildings, a cable tray system is used to support insulated electric
cables used for power distribution and communication. Cable trays are used as an alternative to
open wiring or electrical conduit systems, and are commonly used for cable management in
commercial and industrial construction. They are especially useful in situations where changes to
a wiring system are anticipated, since new cables can be installed by laying them in the tray,
instead of pulling them through a pipe.

2. LEARNING AND EXPERIENCE:

2.1. Internship Duration & Rationale for selection:

Internship Duration: 06 Weeks

I have selected PowerTecK switchgear service pvt. ltd. to go ahead with my internship because
they have quite an intelligent, dynamic and imaginative leader as CEO in the form of MR.
GHULAM SHABBIR who have diversified his business in many different areas of LV
Switchgear products and electrical system including installation maintenance. The organization
is quite active in social works also and run a social society named as “FUTURE LEADERS OF
PAKISTAN” who promotes the culture of entrepreneurship for the young and upcoming
graduates and also to create leaders in all fields of life including Business, Politics and Sports by
arranging workshops and seminars on these issues. I also have an interaction with this
organization before joining them as internee through this social society.
Besides that they have also a very sound financial background with the turnover of over 29.7
million annually.

I will discuss my learning and training in two different sections.

1. What I have learnt?

2. Details of training?

2.2. What I have learnt? :

Personal learning is a moral and ethical obligation set by a person to move into a mellow
way to excel in present and future. During my stay at PowerTecK I realize the following
duties and learnt a lot from my seniors about these things.

 Ever Ready For Challenges

 Broad Vision
 Communication With your Seniors

 Personal appearance

 Create Opportunities

 Cohesiveness

Ever Ready For Challenges:

I learnt that in today's competitive and ever challenging globalized business world you
have to be ready for new challenges every day. Every other day you have to change your
strategy to compete with your competitors. So I recommend that be creative, be
informative about your competitors and market trends, and always willing to take ideas
from others.

Broad Vision:

Always think big and think ahead of your competitor's. Bring new ideas for the future are
always necessary to stay in the market. So think big and think creative.

Communication with your seniors:

Always try to learn from your seniors by continuously communicating with them to avoid
any misunderstandings between you and them. Try to share any new idea or thought and
discuss with them the possible outcomes of this.

Personal Appearance:

Personal appearance is a big factor in making you a good to excellent professional. Treat
yourself as a product then you realize that how important is to make yourself look good.
Create Opportunities:

Don't wait for the opportunities to come instead create them. Thing of new products new
markets by staying informed about the current situation and trends of people and markets.

Cohesiveness:

I felt during my internship that a team player can achieve more than an individual.
Therefore always try to help and cooperate with your peers because it will help you in
future.

2.3. Details of Training:

I have worked in Accounts and Marketing Department of PowerTecK (PTS) for 6 weeks starting
from 8th July 2010 to 27th Aug 2010 it was a good experience working in a professional
environment for the first time in my life. I have learned a lot in these 6 weeks as I worked under
very senior and professional staff at PowerTecK (PTS). Now I will explain below the tasks I
have performed in two different departments of the company.

ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT:

2.2.1. Processes all banking activities, including making wire payments, direct deposits, and
preparing checks:
In the first week of my training I was informed about the different departments of the company
and introduction with the people at PowerTecK (PTS). Then I was given a simple task of
handling some of the banking operations of the company which includes preparations of checks
and depositing it in a bank, cash deposits in the bank accounts, and also get to know how to
make wire payments (wire payments are like transferring the money from one account to other,
credit or debit card payments over the phone or on the swipe machines etc.).

2.2.2. Assisted with cash journal maintenance:

I have also assisted them with maintaining of cash journal on daily basis. All money received or
disbursed by the company is required to be brought to account immediately on double entry
system in the general cash book. Transaction relating to specific schemes should be accounted
for in a cash book separately for each scheme. The cash book should be closed daily and tallied,
receipts and expenditure totaled monthly and reconciled with bank balances every month.

2.2.3. Assisted in maintenance of files and folders related to accounts:

Paid vouchers and bills are to be serially filed in separate folders each financial year for each
specific scheme.

2.2.4. Assisted in preparing financial statement & analysis:

Then I have learnt how to do prepare and analyze financial statements and find out companies
financial ratios in the real world.

MARKETING DEPARTMENT:
2.2.5. Assisted in conducting a market research to enter in local market:

I have worked almost 2 weeks in marketing department of PowerTecK (PTS). The marketing
department consists of only 5 persons headed by Mr. Imran Fazal. The company takes all its
projects of switchgear services from offshore market but the new idea is to enter in the local
market and for that purpose the company wants to conduct a market research to know the state of
market.
We have a conducted a secondary research on hotel industry in Islamabad and prepares the
report basically the purpose of this research is to make a database of hotels who got switchgear
services and who still have not.

2.2.6. Assisted in making a promotional strategy for the new product:

Now to enter in a local market company was thinking how to promote our product to the local
industry. The final decision was made that 2 sales persons will personally go to each and every
hotel that haven’t switchgear products and promote these products by giving the company
portfolio and visiting card to every individual. The second strategy to promote the product is to
arrange seminars and workshops and invite local businessmen to make them aware of the
advantages of using technology to run their business operations.

2.3. SWOT Analysis of Genesis Developments:

What is SWOT analysis?

It has always been important for a business to know and understand how it fits in and interacts
with the surrounding environment on both an internal (office/factory/shop environment) and
external view (how your business operates with the outside world). Basically SWOT analysis is
the tool to conduct such kind of analysis. With the help of this analysis we will be able to know
our strengths and weaknesses of the company and try to overcome them.
Analysis:

2.3.1. Strengths:

 Positive image of the company.

 Imported machinery.

 The company is in a sound financial position with a liquidity ratio of 2:1.

 The company got a very charismatic leadership in the form MR. GHULAM SHABBIR.

 Skillful and very hardworking staff.

 Very good PR around the business and political circuits.

2.3.2. Weaknesses:

 Too much diversification in different industries diverge the focus sometimes.

 Not enjoying the economy at large scale.

 No continual evaluation and updating of human resources practices and policies.

 Lack of accountability of managers and employees to achieve clear and measurable

performance levels.
 PowerTecK (PTS) staff at lower level considers their work as burden. They usually waste
time in other task a part in performing their duty.
 No R&D department.

2.3.3. Opportunities:

 Availability of information about best practices in human resources.

 Big opportunity to grow business in local market nationwide.
 Can utilize its financial resources to compete with competitors.
 Use latest technology.
 New markets.

2.3.3. Threats:

 Political, security and economic situation of the country.

 New entrants.

 Day by day changing policies of Government.

 Big competitors with huge funds can spend huge on marketing budget. .

 Load-shedding

2.4. Recommendations:
During my internship of Six weeks at the PowerTecK (PTS). I observed a lot of things and there
is always a better way of doing things. Some of the recommendation suggested for the
PowerTecK (PTS) are as follows.
 Company should hire a HR professional who can implement the proper policies
and procedures regarding HR issues.

 Company should enter in the local market very carefully. They have made the
decision in the basis of secondary research I recommend them to conduct the
primary research first and then make a decision.
 The company should have some strong strategy regarding the conduct of senior
management team.

 The upper management should hand over some of the responsibilities to the lower
and middle management. So that to increase the performance and working
efficiency of the PowerTecK (PTS).

 PowerTecK (PTS) should hire some professional technical writer who can prepare
business proposals and official letters with a very professional way because their
business proposals are not up to the high standards.

CONCLUSION:
Basically the aim of this internship project is to get familiarize with the office environment and
get to know about the basic operations of the different departments. By completing this project
of six weeks I gained experience of practical life by working with lot of talented and experience
people who are always adding something to your knowledge. And the place PowerTecK (PTS)
is the perfect platform for me to gain experience to start my professional career, it is the perfect
place for everyone who comes in, learns and have something which could distinguish them in
some areas of knowledge, skills or abilities.

By working in two different departments of the company I gained extensive knowledge of day
to day operations of the accounts department from maintaining files and folders, variety of
banking operations, handling of cash to report writing. The marketing department is just another
world to work in, all the time people talking about the new ideas, about the competitor’s and all
the time introducing with new peoples.

All in all the company is just doing great job but I would like to make some final conclusions
on what I am thinking to make this organization grow and better place to work in. I would like
to recommend on the basis of SWOT analysis that the is too much diversified in to different
types of works they should keep their focus on one industry that is manufacturing of
switchgears and then once they secure their primary business then start focusing on other
things. The company should have clear HR policies and procedures in place to ensure the
maximum productivity level achieved from it employs. And then there should be a clear policy
of watching the managers’ behavior to all the lower level staff. I would also recommend that
there is a great opportunity for them to enter in a local market and enjoy the economy on big
scale.

In the end I would like to thanks all the members of staff at PowerTecK (PTS) specially MR.
Imran Fazal who had cooperated with me during my stay at the company. It was as awesome
experience of working and learning in such a reputable organization. I never felt bored, or there
isn’t any dull period during my six weeks stay it was a fun place to work in that was what
PowerTecK (PTS) is all about.

internship report, at the end of my first experience of working in the professional environment
and hopefully it will be the starting point of my glittering career ahead. I am very glad that I got
the opportunity to work with PowerTecK (PTS) because such is their attitude and
professionalism to work that I feel privileged. Thirst of learning is inside you, and whatever the

environment to learn. My parents' prayers and their teachings were always with me and hereby I
will like to take this opportunity to show my gratitude to all those who made my internship an
adventurous outwit.
Here I am, from more professional and rather corporate environment of PowerTecK (PTS) head
office in I-8 Markaz Islamabad. I was very nervous on the first day and never knew what it all
going to be. As I enter the office, I was sent straightaway to meet MR. Ghulam Shabbir the
CEO of the company. Maybe I was expecting him in a glass sheeted room and I will never
going to meet that person but open door policy of the company makes it possible to meet and
discuss anything with any person. At a glance, I grasped the interesting personality of the CEO
and today at the end of my internship; he’s one of the persons I’ll always remember. “Sir
whatever I learnt from you is always going to be respected, no matter whatever business field I
choose. Those tips are always in my memory bag”.
Despite of the most hectic schedule, Mr. Imran Fazal the Marketing Manager at the company
has helped me so much. “I'm really grateful to you sir for clarifying my concepts and making
me learn from your experience. Whatever I learnt from you will definitely help me in my
upcoming study and the professional life ahead. Thank you so much for being so co-operative
and so helpful every time and I hope I have been up to your expectations”.
