started my career as an Assistant Superintendent attached to State Plantations C
orporation in 1983 and worked in the same capacity until 1990. I was promoted as
a Superintendent in 1990 and worked for S.L.S.P.C until 1992. ? With the privat
ization of plantations in 1992, I joined Bogawantalawa Tea Estates Ltd, (on invi
tation) and worked as a Superintendent and also as the Group Processing Manager
(1.5 Million Kgs per annum) in one of their Groups. ? I was then promoted as a S
enior Manager - Mahaoya Group in 1999 and further as the Senior Manager - HRD of
the company in 2006. The total HR of the company includes 15 Plantation Executi
ves, 200 Field staff and 2700 plantation workers. ? I have worked in all three a
gro climatic regions and also familiar with all three major crops such as Tea, R
ubber and Coconuts.? Special Projects? Participatory Management - A project that
was undertaken by CARE international under the plantation WET project.? Social
Dialog & workplace cooperation - An ILO project aimed at empowering employees an
d getting them involved / engaged in decision making process.? FSC - Currently w
orking to get the Forestry Stewardship Certification for the company.? HRIS Proj
ect - Working with web based developers to create a database for the human resou
rce information system covering manpower planning, recruitment/selection, salar
ies/rewards, performance management ( using Balance Score Card system), training
/ development and employee services that will link up with the company ERP to g
ive real time information for decision making.? Worked with Vocational Training
Institute for developing competency standards for plantation employees in order
to improve overall productivity and to improve decision making process. Competen
cy standards for the field staff are nearing completion.? Presentations? I have
read country papers on the progress of the Social Dialogue and workplace corpora
tion in Vietnam and in India.
