Postgraduate Students

Application Procedures

Applications are to be made on the prescribed form, which may be obtained from the Admissions &
Records Unit or from the Centre for Postgraduate Studies. All enclosed academic records and other
supporting documents must be certified true copies.

Application forms can also be downloaded online here and submitted to the email provided.

A complete application package should consist of the following items:

A complete, signed application form


4 passport sized photographs of the applicant
Certified copy of degree certificate
Certified copy of transcript/mark sheets
Evidence of English proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS preferred)
Reports of two academic referees
Recommendation letter from an Islamic organization, community leader or imam (preferably an
IIUM representative) in the applicant's country of residence
A non-refundable application processing fee of RM 75.00 or US$ 25.00 in the form of a bank
draft, money order or postal order, payable to International Islamic University Malaysia
Documentary evidence of the applicant's ability to cover tuition, accommodation, food, medical
and other expenses for the total duration of the programme
Other relevant documents (if any).

General Requirements

English

Students interested pursuing into a programme that taught in English must demonstrate their proficiency in
the English language through one of the following:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)


Test administered by the International English Language Testing Services (IELTS)
IIUM English Placement Test (EPT)

Students who have been offered admission but are unable to fulfill English requirement before the
semester of enrolment have two years to do so. Should they fail to fulfill the requirement within that period,
the offer of admission will be withdrawn.

For any of the bilingual programmes, students may enroll in a provisional admission that would allow them
to register concurrently for English and the programme's course.

Students in programmes taught in Arabic may take up English proficiency courses concurrently with their
departmental courses, provided that they have been exempted from Arabic after sitting for the Arabic
Placement Test (APT). These students must also attain a minimum score of 550 in TOEFL or 6.0 in IELTS
or EPT before they register for research projects or Comprehensive Examinations.

Arabic

Students seeking entry into programmes taught in Arabic must pass the IIUM-administered Arabic
Placement Test (APT). Those who fail in this test have one academic year during which they can try again.
The offer of admission will be withdrawn if they cannot fulfill the requirement within a year.
