Career Objective
To help people recover and cope constructively with mental and behavioral proble
ms.
To empower people to remain stable and productive members of society.
Qualifications
I have background experience in group counseling from Three Rivers behavioral he
alth center. The position consisted of group discussions and followed the twelve
step format to recovery. I have worked with the Babcock center residential grou
p home for people whom were mentally challenged, this population; and position c
onsisted of documentation, redirecting behaviors, group counseling and some assi
sting with activity of daily living for those who were physically disabled. I al
so had to incorporate active listening skills and decision making skills as the
house manager of a house of eight employees and ten male residents. I also had t
raining in harm reduction and confidentiality when counseling clients.
Education
I am a Columbia college graduate, my major is the behavioral science field and m
y minor is human services. I also have a graduate degree in mental health couns
eling. I am familiar with several kinds of life issues, to include: addiction pr
evention and intervention, depression and bi-polar disorder, aging and dementia,
and the four stages of mental retardation; I also have a working knowledge of t
he DSM-IV and the five axis of coding various disorders. I have had training in
various models of approaches to abnormal psychology; emphases are on the behavio
ral and person centered models. Some of my most memorable experiences were while
I worked or interned at halfway houses, behavioral centers and long-term care f
acilities. I did an intern practicum at the Vocational Rehabilitation center fo
r people whom are mentally or/and physically disabled, and also interned with DR
. Tom Hammil at his group practice for dual diagnosis and addictions.
