Key Competence 1: Communication in the Mother Tongue.

I used my mother tonque during communication with other Polish volunteers. In
contact with them I formulated and expressed my own arguments in a convincing and
appropiate way. I also shared my ideas. I taught Polish and paid particular attention
to the articulation and pronunciation, so that my statement was understandable. I
came up with the idea of organizing Polish evenings during which there were
presented Polish traditions, food, dancing and music. Polish is very difficult and for
me was a big success, when together with guests we sang songs and recited poems
and they liked it. Besides the courses, very often other volunteers asked me to teach
them some Polish words and sayings. Now everyone knows some words or sentences in
Polish.

Key Competence 2: Communication in Foreign Languages

During the project I lived and worked in an environment where I had to use every day
foreign language. I had to communicate in English with people working in the
organization and other colleagues all time. Living with volunteers from other
countries, I had to use other languages than my native one. All my classes were in
English. As a result I made a lot of progress. It's much easier for me to express
opinions, thoughts and emotions, to describe facts, my vocabulary is extensive. I no
longer suffer from a language blockade. I can speak on various topics, knowing that I
will be understood by everybody. I also understand spoken messages and I am able to
initiate, sustain and conclude conversations. Contact with people from different
countries (Germany, Portugal, Spain, Maroko, Bulgaria, Turkey etc.) helped in an
appreciation of cultural differences and diversity, and an interest and curiousity in
foreigners' languages and intercultural communication. Through participation in
conferences organized by Rotaract Club I know specialist terminology to use when
meeting the United Nations. The Romanian courses I attended while staying here
played an important roe in my acquisition of this new language. Getting to know a
language, which belongs to a different linguistic group than my native language,
enabled me to communicate with the local people and helped during work with
children. I could find the information in Romanian and read simple texts. I enjoyed
learning new words. I'm going to continue learning Romanian language.

Key Competence 3: Mathematical Competences and Basic Competences in Science and Technology
I had to constantly monitor my expenses, because the budget was limited, and this
allowed me sensibly plan it. I used math skills to plan logical and spatial thinking and
manage ideas and to solve a range of problems in everyday situations.  It was also
very helpful when converting foreign exchange rates when shopping and traveling.
The ability to use arithmetic was needed to prepare estimates of expenditure for
the purchase of materials for my events and activity.

Key Competence 4: Digital Competence.

I used digital tools when I had to search for information and preparing training
materials for Polish classes and writing scripts for my activities (Internet research,
databases, digital cameras for reporting). I improved my skills of using Microsoft
Office ™ tools (Word ™, Excel ™ and PowerPoint ™), Open Office and graphics
programmes. Using applications of language learning. Very often I used the social
networking to communicate and share experiences with volunteers not only from my
organization, but also others who are in the time on projects in Romania. It was also
easier for me be in touch with family and friends in my country.

Key Competence 5: Learning to Learn

During my project I took part in different events and I helped my collegues in their
projects. I had also many independent activities and tasks. This experience was very
important. I learned how to shape ideas, how to assign tasks in order to improve my
work. I know how to connect leisure time with education and I can effectively manage
time and information. Work and life with a big group of people showed me how to
cooperate with them. My study was also by observing behaviours and talking with
people from different backgrounds (children, Roma, sellers, other volunteers,
employees of different places etc.). Highly educative was travelling, during which I
met many interesting people. I tried gathering knowledge to break stereotypes and
learning about culture. I got to know a lot of methods (special during Carnival of Non-
Formal Education)that can be used in future activities.
A lot of time was dedicated to learning the language. I took advantage of my skills
and put them into practice.

Key Competence 6: Social and Civic Competences

I fully participated in civil life in Baia Mare based on knowledge of social and political
concepts and structures. I had an interest in socio-economic development,
intercultural communication, value diversity and respect others, and be prepared
both to overcome and to compromise.
During my stay abroad I got in contact with different groups and individuals and
this helped my learn how to react in all situations and environments that I had to
face. Therefore, the volunteer is now able to communicate and socialize easily in
a new community; I know how to show tolarance, how to accept an experess
different points of wiev, how to negotiate. What is also important is the fact that
working in international group gave me the opportunity to experience different
ways of collaboration, diverse codes of manners in a foreign society at work. At
the end of my project, I know how important it is that in every new group of
peopele try to understand and to respect the most important concepts of the
individuals, work sphere,culture and society.
In the end, one of the most valuable results for my social and civic development
is the way I manage now to cope with stress, frustrations by expressing them in a
constructive way in my work environment, as well as in my personal life.

Key Competence 7: Sense of Initiative and Entrepreneurship

During my all activities I was very motivated and determined to meet objectives. I
used creativity and innovation. I acquired skills to plan and manage projects in order
to achieve objectives. I organized a series of Polish evenings (dance, film, music and
theater) and I was responsible for it from the beginning to the end. I arranged
scripts, compiled scenery, chose music and recipes for traditional Polish dishes. In
the realization I benefited from help from the other Polish volunteers. Thanks to
this it was possible to show a lot of interesting aspects of the Polish culture. I’m
especially proud of the last two evenings, which were my initiative. During one of
them we taught the participants to sing popular songs. All the guests who came were
impressed and enjoyed the evening. During the second one we presented one of the
most famous and most important drama for Poles, fragments "Forefathers Eve"
(“Dziady”) by Adam Mickiewicz, additionally in the form of shadow theater.
Decorations and templates were made by me. I also helped my colleaques in their
projects and activities. While doing the tasks I had the idea for a photography
project that I hope I will realizated when I return to the Poland.

Key Competence 8: Cultural Awareness and Expression

I cooperated with groups of people (children, teenagers, adults) coming from
different countries and belonging to diverse cultures. Also during my travelling I met
representatives of a different culture who spoke a different language. This allowed
me to understand the cultural and linguistic diversity in Europe and the need to
preserve it. I learned about the daily life of Romanians, their traditions and way of
working. I had the opportunity to visit them in their homes, talk, try traditional food
and talk about the customs of my country. This intercultural exchanged was for me
interesting and important because I learned a lot of about the world around me and
enriched my knowledge. I got know romanian music, art, theather, cinematography,
literature, handcraft etc. I participated in the openings of art, film festivals,
folklore festivals and exhibitions not only in Baia Mare but also in other places in
Maramures and all Romania (for example Astra Film Festival in Sybiu). I also took
part in intercultural evenings and presentations about countries and cultures other
volunteers.
