Work History Details with Rolls-Royce Naval Marine Inc.:
1989-09 to 2010-08-12
DB Manager / IT Manager / Systems Administrator
Rolls-Royce Naval Marine Inc.
Walpole, MA
Current owner: Rolls-Royce- UK
Previous owners: Vickers- UK, Ulstein- Norway, Bird-Johnson Co.- Sweden
Manage and perform IT operations daily
* Over the years I have researched, specified, ordered, built/loaded and configu
red 95% of all in-house network equipment (switches, hubs, routers, cabling, etc
.), servers (ERP, file, printer, Firewall, VPN, Lotus Notes, Exchange, SharePoin
t, etc.), PCs (workstations, desktops, & laptops) for all three RRNMI sites sinc
e first starting with the company in 1989.

* I managed all IT operations through the company transitions from Bird-Johnson

to Ulstein, then to Vickers, and finally to Rolls-Royce Naval Marine Inc.
* I did the upgrades of the IT equipment while transitioning our sites to new ne
twork configurations, new server configurations, new ERP systems, and new PCs th
rough the years as finances allowed.
* Through the years I have attended various computer and application training cl
asses to better enable me to perform IT operations within the company.
* I setup the LAN networks in Walpole, Pascagoula and Annapolis offices. I also
setup all of the hubs, servers, PCs, and user accounts for the new networks. P
lus a common mail system to support key personnel at all three sites.
* I worked with the Ulstein IT organization to merge our disconnected networks i
nto three domains tied into the Ulstein Frame Relay network and merged our exter
nal mail data into the Ulstein Lotus Notes email system. I built the Lotus Note
s and domain servers, setup the security system and created all of the user acco
unts for all three sites. Setup all PCs in Walpole and Pascagoula and directed
the PC setups in Annapolis.
* Attended Multi+ ERP training in Norway, extracted our Manman ERP system data a
nd worked with the Multi+ team to migrate our data into the Multi+ ERP system.
Created an English data dictionary of the Multi+ application to enable me to cre
ate all of the custom reports required to support our business needs (sales, pur
chasing, finance, operations, service, etc.).
* I built the RRNMI domain servers (PDC, and BDCs) for all three sites. I setup
the security systems and created all of the network logon accounts.
* I built the first RRNMI Exchange server (and the replacement Exchange server a
few years later). I worked with EDS to configure the Exchange server to tie in
to the RR GAL. I extracted our Lotus Notes user and company data into apsta fil
es and setup all of the RRNMI Exchange accounts.
* I worked with the F-Secure (anti-virus) and GCOE (Global Common Office Environ
ment) teams during the configuration planning and testing programs. I worked wi
th RR IT Security and got them to agree that RRNMI could be the test area for th
e new GCOE PC systems. I took the first sysprep Ghost image of the GCOE and cre
ated GCOE images (including F-Secure and Office 2003 applications) for all of th
e different PC models we had at all three of our sites. I proceeded to build an
d push out all of these GCOE images to replace the non-GCOE PC configurations at
all of our sites. I also built and replaced the PCs (primarily laptops) of our
field and off site employees with GCOE configured PCs.
* I continue to upgrade and build servers and PCs for all sites. Moving our ser
vers from standalone to rack mounted, protected by a UPS and generator system I
laid out with our Facilities manager.
* I have moved our daily backup systems from tape based backup to disk based bac
kup and also setup the use of month end backup tapes for offsite storage archive
s
* I connect to and support on-site and off-site users with PC problems using VNC
or LogMeIn Rescue depending on their location and PC connectivity issues. When
connections are not possible I talk them through the issues or have them return
their PCs for replacement or upgrade.
* I build or rebuild all of our PCs as required to support distribution of new e
quipment and move our older (still functioning) equipment to lower criticality w
ork areas (shop floor)
* I have most recently worked with HP (EDS) / RR on the migration testing of the
network changes in Indy affecting connectivity and email delivery to our RRNMI
sites
* I am working with the AIM team on the email migration from the currently insta
lled Exchange 5.5 server over to the new Diamond server located in Indy
* I have just completed the installation of new file servers (plus Print service
s, DHCP, WINS) in Annapolis and Pascagoula
* I am replacing the current HP ProCurve network switches with the newer HP ProC
urve 5412zl incorporating the PoE Gig-T and SFP modules
* I also work daily with HP (EDS) / RR IT staff globally to manage our connectio
ns and work on the RR GWAN
* I also work with HP (EDS) / RR IT staff on managing the connectivity and secur
ity of our sites when working with the other RR sites on the RR global network.
Plus I manage the security configurations providing the access rights of other
RR users to our sites
