So nepozaben dokument Ëasa, trenutka, zgodovine in spomina.

We have been taught that a picture is worth a thousand words. This is particularly true in emergency situations. Think of the recent earthquake in Japan, the tidal wave in Thailand, hurricane Katrina in the USA and its aftermath, which cannot be described in words - the only medium that can express everything is a photograph. The same is true in situations of war - photographs of the flag over Iwo Jima, or the Vietnamese girl after a napalm bombing raid, are considered among the best of all time. They are unforgettable documents of time, a moment, history and memory. The story of Slovenian independence is no di≠erent. Although the war lasted “only” ten days, independence and international recognition were achieved relatively quickly, and the evolution from a republic within a multi-national Yugoslavia to the presiding country of the European Union took less than two decades, the lenses of our photographers captured thousands of excellent unforgettable images. It is difficult select the best and those which would precisely express the spirit of the two decades, while telling the comprehensive story of Slovenia’s independence. However, in the end, as always, we had to make a selection. In doing so, we not only wished to recapture twenty years of Slovenia’s independence, but give recognition to the photographers who have portrayed the story. We believe that we have achieved this: the exhibition offers an excellent portrait of the period through excellent photographic images. It is a winning combination which will not leave anyone untouched.

20 let zgodovine slovenske dræave. 20 dogodkov, zajetih v fotografskih podobah. In imejmo jo radi!

20 years of Slovenian history. 20 moments captured in photographs. Far too few to capture everything that has accompanied us, impressed us and made us proud in the last 20 years. Nevertheless, enough for a short walk through the photographed events that in one way or another marked these 20 years and strengthened our belief that we can be justifiably proud of the path taken by our young country. Life is made up of pleasant and less pleasant events. Let us remain proud of our country in the next 20 + 20 + 20…years also. And let us love it! The photography exhibition was organised by the Government Communications Office of the Republic of Slovenia with the expert help of photographers Uroπ HoËevar and Matej Leskovπek. We take this opportunity to thank Ljubljana Tourism, and especially the photographers, who persistently record the unforgettable moments of our stories for their cooperation.
