Marc Nagtzaam – Farben

ROMA Publications 2022 ISBN 9789464460056 Acqn 32286

Pb 21x29cm 96pp col ills £57.95

Marc Nagtzaam's artistic practice is based on a single theme: the idea of pattern and repetition.
He draws lines, grids, circles, and words or sentences in an endless search, as if collecting
pieces of information. The repetition and graphic structure is particularly reminiscent of minimal or
conceptual aesthetics. His source material is reduced through basic, elementary means, wherein
dots, lines, and flat surfaces construct a sort of structure. Although a large number of his
drawings consist of colourless surfaces, darkly filled with graphite, 'Farben' is true to its name and
presents a series of works in colour.

Kara Walker - Book of Hours
ROMA Publications 2022 ISBN 9789464460070 Acqn 32278
Pb 21x26cm 144pp col ills £42.25

Over the course of 2022-2021, during the pandemic, Kara Walker has produced series of
drawings in the style of a medieval 'Book of Hours'. Enigmatic images appear to traverse a range
of time periods, from scenes of biblical and mythological origins, to images of historical violence,
to others that suggest more recent political strife. The highly personal nature of these images
capture Walker's own response to the intersection of past and present as a way to understand
our contemporary political moment.

Irene Kopelman - Here and Elsewhere
ROMA Publications 2022 ISBN 9789464460131 Acqn 32308
Pb 21x28cm 48pp col ills £19.25

Here and Elsewhere is a project that brings together a series of drawings of rock formations and
a 1:1 scale replica of marble-shaped rocks, known as concretions. Kopelman made two field trips
to Utah between 2018 and 2019 to explore the otherworldly features of the concretions. The
resulting works - crayons on paper and hand-made ceramic sculptures - reveal the ways in which
the artist goes about mapping and drawing a geological location, and how art practice can be a
way of thinking about geological processes and the design of nature - constantly changing,
tireless in its creation of new forms and patterns.

Jochen Lempert - Paare / Pairs
ROMA Publications 2022 ISBN 9789464460148 Acqn 32329
Pb 21x29cm 112 pp ills £32.75

Jochen Lempert's photographs begin with an encounter: his meeting with plants and animals, real
or artificial representations in urban or rural settings, museum displays, scientific books, and
more. The resulting images display a certain ease, a proximity that speaks to his comfort around
his subjects. Rather than applying his scientific knowledge to what he photographs, he visually
invites meaning through the act of seeing. 'Pairs' appears with an exhibition of Lempert's work in
Frankfurt am Main, curated by Yasmil Raymond and Deborah Muller. The juxtapositions in this
series might be two pictures of the same subject, a pair of animals, or visually evocative matches.
