Scientology Religiosity? ~ The Series! An independent research collection of reference e-publications & related works, by Project Chanology Anonymous at WhyWeProtest.net - Harvesting Scientology’s dox and turning it into digital WIN since 2008. Why is this effort is needed? Because Scientology critics, protesters, internet activists and human rights advocates who speak out against the corruptions and abuses in the Church of Scientology are frequently asked hard questions on the topic of Scientology’s religiosity. In addition, Professor Hugh Urban’s recent book raises the challenge to readers to decide for themselves if Scientology is a religion, so why not empower the search for answers with the power of delicious dox! If that is not a good enough reason, please see the additional reasons of inspiration tossed out on the table for consideration in the online discussion forum where the majority of more serious research was done here. With the release and ongoing maintenance of this documentation archive of educational e-publications and related works, we now have a virtual library to point to for all those seeking an answer to questions in the vein of “religion” as well as providing an educational resource for understanding why Scientology doctrines seem to induce such bad behavior in its longtime followers. The meaning of the word “religion” is entirely subjective, and strictly personalized, opinion of what it means to any given individual. Therefore, no one can define the answer to “Is Scientology a Religion?” for another person. However, people of various faiths still seek those answers in regards to the Scientology system of beliefs. Therefore, this research catalog documentation archive aims to expose the truth about a wide range of L. Ron Hubbard derived scriptures using a contemporary approach to world religion studies . This series of publications and related works is intended to serve as a public domain archive of source materials for further research to aid those who seek out such answers for themselves. The fair usage content included spans examples of the following documentation:
Propaganda the Church of Scientology promotes to the outside world for encouraging a wider acceptance of their beliefs and practices, while reinforcing their legitimacy as a New Religious Movement (NRM). Propaganda the Church of Scientology promotes internally to their own members that slanders many other major religions and contradicts their claims of being compatible with other belief systems. Additional documentation outlining the actual teachings and alternative medicine practices of the Church of Scientology that underscores why their system of beliefs is so controversial. Academic analysis summaries from proponent, critical, and comparative sources that reflect a comprehensive look at all sides of many disputes surrounding the common of questions of Scientology’s religiosity. Related media coverage that further examines the finer points of the “applied religious philosophy” that the Church of Scientology claims is at the heart of its campaign to “clear the planet.”
With the release and ongoing maintenance of this documentation archive of educational booklets and related works, Project Chanology Anonymous activists from www.whyweprotest.net aims to provide a virtual library of reference materials for all those seeking answers to the entirely subjective questions that arise when evaluating the nature of Scientology as a religion.
The Scientology Religiosity? Series of research catalogs and related works is a collection of materials for supporting further research in the vein of comparative religion studies on the subject of Scientology and the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard. These fair use publications focus on illustrating Scientology beliefs in relation to other religions, traditional tenets of faith, ancient mythology, and the teachings of major religious leaders. The materials included in each volume represent a small sampling of excerpts from the written works by L. Ron Hubbard in the form of books, essays, and lecture transcripts. Other materials range from official scriptures of the Church of Scientology in the form of policies and organizational publications, in addition to promotional materials. This documentation represents the core Scientology teachings and doctrines that is often referred to as “technology.” Another central aspect of this series of publications focuses on an assortment of privately distributed Advance! Magazine feature articles from a long running Spiritual History of Man series that L. Ron Hubbard personally mandated . These articles and related Hubbard essays offer a unique view into how the Scientology dogma is promoted internally to adherents that are on an advanced stage of the “The Bridge to Total Freedom” (aka “The Bridge”), and pursuing the Operating Thetan (“OT”) levels of study.

Volume I Summary
Publication: http://www.scribd.com/doc/65916147/Scientology-Religiosity-Volume-I This volume of the Scientology Religiosity? Series of research publications has been compiled to serve as the introductory module for a larger body of materials. These volumes are assembled for educational purposes and
covers some on the basic principles of Scientology when viewed from the perspective of being classified as a new religious movement. The enclosed subject matter reveals the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard and other promotional material from the Church of Scientology on the following common aspects of “salvation” that is adhered to by the more traditional faiths: The existence of God, The role of heaven and hell, and The eternal hope of mankind according to Scientology tenets of faith. In addition, Scientology views on the common principles found in the Abrahamic religions in comparison to their own doctrinal practices.
Subsections v1.01.001 through v1.01.004 provides a brief overview of how the major principles of the Scientology system of spiritual beliefs are commonly defined to the outside world, defended when under scrutiny, and perceived internally. Subsections v1.01.005 through v1.01.011 provides a look at the Scientology interpretation of heaven and hell, with insights into their methodologies for overcoming the limitations of human existence as defined within strictly internal-usage materials. Subsections 012-013 provide an explanation and brief illustration of Church policies defining nature of the sect’s view on their unusual breed of religiosity. While a more comprehensive look at Scientology's take on spiritual beliefs is expanded on in subsection 014 that covers a sampling of quotations from Scientology’s ideology often deemed controversial (with additional passage segments to follow in later volumes of this series). Subsection v1.01.015 exposes a more detailed explanation of Scientology doctrines as portrayed to the public, while v1.01.016 through v1.01.019 offers a further look at the Scientology approach to religious salvation through the actual course room teachings and alternative counseling techniques of L. Ron Hubbard. The value of delivering Scientology’s form of salvation to the world is defined further under section v1.01.020. Furthermore, the applied practice of these religious beliefs are organized into a dual path of training and psychotherapy processes for charting one’s spiritual progress known as “The Bridge,” which is illustrated and highlighted conversationally under subsections v1.01.21 through v1.01.022. This volume concludes with a vintage statement of what Scientology disciples aim to achieve with their spiritual progress up “The Bridge” in subsection v1.01.023. Followed by a return to the modern day reality in subsection 024, regarding how the public typically perceives the opposing claims of Hubbard’s doctrines being both a science and a religion through the personal experience of an investigative journalist.
Volume II Summary
Publication: http://www.scribd.com/doc/89139705/Scientology-Religiosity-Volume-II This volume of the Scientology Religiosity? Series of research publications has been compiled as the second introductory module in a larger body of materials. These volumes are assembled for educational purposes with an aim for supporting further study on basic points of comparison between Scientology principles of faith and the common beliefs of other major religions. The enclosed subject matter explores the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard and the Church of Scientology beyond the topical realm of “salvation” that was previously covered in Volume I: God, Heaven, Hell & The Hope of Mankind and highlights the following aspects of this NRM system of beliefs:
The early formation of a belief system for “religious counseling practices,” The universal struggle of good versus evil, Knowing the difference between right and wrong, Defining acquired states of spirituality as the path to immortality, and The application of Hubbard’s new age philosophy for improving the world.
Subsections v2.01.001 through v2.01.005 provides a primer on how L. Ron Hubbard initially redefined his theory of Dianetics into the religion of Scientology. Subsection 006 lays out a side-by-side comparison of Scientology doctrines and spokesperson statements regarding their beliefs and practices, in relation to relevant scriptures of the Christian bible. Continuing on, subsection 007 provides a close-up look at the mandated Scientology practice of disseminating their beliefs in accordance with their religious policies. Subsections v2.01.008 through v2.01.012 portrays a further look at how common Judeo-Christian beliefs are reinterpreted, and how spirituality is defined with an emphasis on reaching achievement statuses to the more advanced adherents pursuing the Scientology “Bridge” at the upper levels. This is expanded upon further in subsections v2.01.013 through v2.01.017 as it applies to Scientology faith-based views on good versus evil and one’s ability for recognizing the difference between right and wrong. While subsections 018-019 explore Scientological views on Islamic concepts of the word of God and the search for truth. The concluding subsections v2.01.020 through v2.01.024 wraps up the basic points of comparison between Scientology and other major religions covered in the first two volumes of this series. This material presents a telling glimpse of the applied practice of Hubbard’s new age philosophy, while showing how the Church of Scientology organization attempts to target the outside world for proselytizing increased usage of their alternative counseling techniques. Additionally, some of the repercussions from the totalistic discipline towards self-development that have become known in recent years are briefly covered in the closing segment.
Volume III Summary
Publication: http://www.scribd.com/doc/78822500/Scientology-Religiosity-Volume-III This volume of the Scientology Religiosity? Series of research publications has been compiled as the third and final introductory module in a larger body of materials. These volumes are assembled for educational purposes with an aim for supporting further study on basic points of comparison between Scientology principles of faith and the common beliefs of other major systems of beliefs. The enclosed subject matter explores the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard and the Church of Scientology into the topical realms of Scientology’s claims regarding their compatibility with Christian principles commonly found at the heart of pastoral responsibilities and bible study exercises. Featured highlights include the following aspects of this NRM system of beliefs: The manner in which Christians typically view Scientology's beliefs, What Scientology deems as basic ministerial duties, How Scientology structures its moral codes around Hubbard's teachings, and How Scientology justifies its compatibility with Christianity. The methods Scientology uses to apply Hubbard's "technology" for achieving greater spirituality, How Scientology interprets saintly devotion and religious miracles, What Scientology perceives as "truth" in their doctrines, How Scientology addresses problems resulting from practicing Christian beliefs, and
The perspective Scientology adopts to explain the history of Christianity.
Subsection v3.01.001 provides a look at what major Christian media outlets have said about various wellknown Scientology controversies in recent years. Subsections v3.02.002 through v3.01.006 explores the mindset behind Scientology ministerial duties. In addition, subsection v3.01.005 in conjunction with subsections v3.01.001-010 delves into their interpretation of popular Christian saints and their infamous contributions to the pursuit of religious spirituality. Subsections v3.02.011 through v3.01.015 includes supporting documentation for further reflection on the Church of Scientology’s long-standing and adamant claim of their beliefs being fully compatible with Christian beliefs. Continuing on in a similar vein with the prior material, subsections v3.02.016 through v3.01.019 provides a means for a further examination of Scientology’s view point on what Christians typically see as divine truths and the manifestations of God’s will. Then as an aside, subsections v3.01.020 through v3.01.022 offers a comparison of Scientology’s interpretation of the more arcane Christian practices versus how their arcane concept of “spirit” (or “thetan”) is represented in the world around us. The concluding subsections starting with v3.01.023 solidifies the array of Christian-related concepts presented in this volume as seen through the eyes of Scientology adherents by showing how Hubbard’s adopted approach of demonizing upsets caused as result of Christianity’s influence on a person, and erasing those problems (or “engrams”) that essentially block one’s spiritual growth. This practice is seemingly far from the realm of being reconcilable with Christian beliefs let alone “compatible” as summarized in brief under section v3.01.024. Proper citations for all the source materials reprinted within this publication for educational purposes are indexed in the back matter under the “List of Scientology Illustrations” section. Additional recommended references for each subsection of the v3.01 materials is also included under the “Further Reading” subsection for a progressive continuation of studies on the topics covered herein.
Volume IV Summary
Publication: http://www.scribd.com/doc/95204534/Scientology-Religiosity-Volume-IV This volume of the Scientology Religiosity? Series of research publications has been compiled as the first intermediate module for the middle segment in a larger body of materials. These volumes are assembled for educational purposes with an aim for supporting further study on basic points of comparison between Scientology principles of faith and the common beliefs of other major religions. The enclosed subject matter explores the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard and the Church of Scientology relevant to their core spiritual beliefs surrounding their interpretation of one’s soul (or “Thetan”), and the incorporation of residual problems from the past lives of a Thetan into issues that need handled with their religious practices in one’s current life. Additionally, this volume also introduces other unusual philosophical quirks that Scientologist come to believe as they progress beyond the basic indoctrination mechanisms on “The Bridge to Total Freedom” that is seen as their path to salvation. Featured highlights include the following aspects of this New Religious Movement (NRM) system of beliefs: Identification of doctrine specifically geared towards spirituality-based beliefs, and the policies mandating that all of Hubbard’s written works be treated as doctrine even though they cover a vast expanse of subject matter that lies beyond the realm of spirituality.
The logic behind applying alternative mental health therapy practices to the pursuit of enlightenment, and how this influences Scientology’s worldview in towards society in general as well as other major religions. The basis for the moral standards adapted into this system of beliefs in regards to the universal struggle of good versus evil, and Scientology’s idealistic perception of their responsibility for saving the planet from misconceptions perpetuated by other religions. The common justification of this system of beliefs being representative of a “modern” religion rather than an alternative form of psychotherapy, and how that mindset is adapted into claiming their counseling practices are an “Applied Religious Philosophy” due to treatment being geared towards empowering one’s soul to become god-like.
Subsections v4.01.001 through v4.01.004 outline the Scientology approach to spirituality and defines how this system of beliefs varies from other religions. The zenith of extreme differences between Scientology and other beliefs is further illustrated in subsection v4.01.005, which includes doctrinal definitions for the major milestones on the path to Scientology enlightenment. These milestone statuses are known as the states of “Clear” and “OT” (or “Operating Thetan”). Subsection v4.01.006 provides an additional chapter of excerpts from the Church of Scientology scriptures with a continuation of some of L. Ron Hubbard’s controversial quotes as previously published in Volumes I and II. This segment of quotations focuses mainly on aspects of how their spiritual beliefs are “applied” to the world around them. Additional quotation segments in this same vein of documentation will also be featured in the future releases of Volumes V and VI. To provide a further understanding of the basis for Scientology’s claim that their “Applied Philosophy” is practical approach to life, which makes their beliefs different from any other faith-based system, sections v4.01.007 through 008 explore Hubbard’s theory of the “Eight Dynamics” as outlined in subsection 001. It is this theory that seemingly forms the basis of the practical application of Scientology auditing techniques for enhancing one’s spirituality on compartmentalized levels of existence. Scientologists perceive the use of this theory for interpreting all the aspects of one’s life is seemingly in stark contrast to a typical non-practitioner perspective of seeing Scientology auditing practices as serving as a means of alternative counseling that apparently changes the way a person thinks. A contrast that legitimately exists in the public perception of Scientology from the behavior changes new practitioners exhibit, despite the evidence of the great lengths Hubbard went to in justifying the religiosity in developing his faith-based form of mental health therapies. Subsections v4.01.009 through v4.01.012 addresses the mechanics of Scientology auditing techniques that are used to achieve their defined form of enlightenment via achievement statuses in the states of “Clear” and “OT” as defined in subsection 005. This journey of enlightenment via achievement levels on “The Bridge” is addressed further from the aspect of bettering one’s soul via Scientology training and processing in sections v4.01.013 though v4.01.017. The concluding sections starting with v4.01.018 serves as culmination of the basic Scientology doctrines that address spirituality gains made for the sake of bettering one’s human abilities in the current lifetime by taking into account the impact past lives has on a Thetan. Moreover, this betterment of humanity is viewed as coming with certain levels of responsibilities as demonstrated in sections v4.01.021 through v4.01.023. The subject of “responsibility” was selected for closing out this volume because it raises several conundrums in light of the abuses within the highest level of the Church of Scientology Sea Org religious order as revealed by the media in recent times. This in turn raises ample room for questioning whether Scientology’s “Applied Religious Philosophy” is worthy of being deemed as a religion. Thus section v4.01.024 presents the classic cult apologist approach to justifying that claim despite the readily apparent nuances and contradictions documented within their scriptures.
Volume V Summary
Publication: http://www.scribd.com/doc/146501642/Scientology-Religiosity-Volume-V This volume of the Scientology Religiosity? Series of research publications has been compiled as the second intermediate module for the middle segment in a larger body of materials. These volumes are assembled for educational purposes with an aim for supporting further study on basic points of comparison between Scientology principles of faith and the common beliefs of other major religions. The enclosed subject matter explores the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard and the doctrines of the Church of Scientology relevant to their system of alternative mental health therapy techniques that they declare are spiritual in nature. These beliefs form the basis of what is labeled as an “Applied Religious Philosophy” that follows a dualistic path of enlightenment defined as “The Bridge to Total Freedom” as illustrated in the last volume of this series. This path to enlightenment requires both training and practical application of auditing techniques that have been prescribed by Hubbard for the purpose of "making the able more able." Additionally, this volume also introduces other unusual indoctrination standards and mechanisms that are seen as essential tools adherents must apply in their lives as a means of achieving a form of salvation that is described as “knowing how to know.” Featured highlights include the following aspects of this New Religious Movement (NRM) system of beliefs: Identification of the nature of Scientology doctrine as a hybrid mix of New Age Gnosticism and pseudopsychotherapy practices that parallels the goals of the Human Potential Movement rather than aligning with traditional philosophy-based pursuits of knowledge. Scientology’s worldview towards society in regards to their perception that they have the only “workable technology” for curing the ills of the human race and conquering what they deem to be the evil influences that deny mankind true freedom. The basis for various aspects of the system of indoctrination developed by L. Ron Hubbard to solidify Scientology’s claim to providing the ultimate truth regarding life on planet Earth being a game. This truth is referred to as an “applied philosophy” because Scientology doctrine includes a complex methodology for overcoming what Hubbard perceived as spiritual barriers that prevent most humans from achieving the full abilities of their immortal soul/thetan in the game of life. A look at L. Ron Hubbard’s sources, the loaded language used in his teachings and the manner in which Hubbard has interpreted similar influences centered on pursuing a type of enlightenment-based gnosis as predecessors to Scientology technology. Subsections v5.01.001 through v5.01.004 examines the esoteric nature at the heart of Scientology’s Applied Religious Philosophy. These materials reflect how the roots of L. Ron Hubbard’s system of beliefs are perceived by the outside world versus how the Church of Scientology interprets religious influences in society and the role they strive to portray themselves as serving in terms of providing what is missing in all other faithbased practices. Subsections v5.01.005 through v5.01.007 explores L. Ron Hubbard’s perception of effective knowledge, and the ultimate truths Scientology has to offer for answering man’s search for answers. Expanding on those ideas subsection v5.01.008 provides a comparative look at a traditional Gnostic worldview versus Scientology’s interpretation of what Gnosticism means and how it relates to their own beliefs. Additionally, subsections v5.01.010, 016 and 020 reflects the Scientology interpretation eastern mysticism and other gnostic systems of belief that similarly emphasize a focus on a secret knowledge being revealed to an exclusive of group of enlightened practitioners.
Subsections v5.01.011 and v5.01.012 reveals some of the more bizarre aspects of Scientology beliefs surrounding their practical approach to “knowing how to know.” These excerpts are intended to be a reflection of the broad expanse of topics covered by what is deemed as scripture within the Church of Scientology. Subsections v5.01.013 through v5.01.015 returns to the subject of New Age Gnosticism being the foundation for the Scientology construct of a path to spiritual enlightenment derived from knowledge that only Hubbard’s teachings can provide. These materials demonstrate that salvation via Scientology practices is achieved by means of altering one’s reality by redefining the world around them in accordance with Hubbard’s worldview in order to optimize the effect his alternative mental health therapy has on an adherent’s psyche. Subsection v5.01.017 reflects yet another peculiar aspect of Scientology’s perception of how their faith-based psychotherapy healing techniques relates to the academic pursuit of science. Additionally, subsections v5.01.018, 019 and 021 outlines some of the mechanics of how Hubbard’s therapy works once a preclear (patient) moves past the fundamental principles of entry-level Scientology indoctrination. These segments are intended to show that the true nature of Hubbard’s pseudoscience is a radical divergence from what is normally accepted as scientifically proven treatment practices for cognitive dysfunctions. The concluding subsections starting with v5.01.022 provides material for further analysis of Scientology practical theories in terms of outlining what sources L. Ron Hubbard derived his basic concepts from and what problems he claims to solve in a practical way. Furthermore, the final segment demonstrates how the institutional application of this philosophy has led practitioners into a religious fervor, which encourages a mindset in blatant contradiction to the altruistic goals that Hubbard’s dogma is supposed to induce.
Volume VI Summary
Publication: http://www.scribd.com/doc/159894347/Scientology-Religiosity-Volume-VI This volume of the Scientology Religiosity? Series of research publications has been compiled as the third intermediate module for the middle segment in a larger body of materials. These volumes are assembled for educational purposes with an aim for supporting further study on basic points of comparison between Scientology principles of faith and the common beliefs of other religions. The enclosed subject matter examines the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard and the Church of Scientology relevant to some of the metaphysical tenets and general mindset for their spiritual beliefs that Hubbard claimed was the modern day continuation of Indic religions and the teachings of Gautama Buddha. Upon closer examination, the relevant comparison points for the basic spiritual beliefs presented in this volume seemingly correspond to New Age systems of belief that are derivatives of the teachings of Helena Blavatsky, such as Theosophy and Thelema, rather than classic forms of Eastern Beliefs. Featured highlights include the following aspects of this New Religious Movement (NRM) system of beliefs as well as other similar religious beliefs for the sake of making a comparative analysis: L. Ron Hubbard’s superficial claims that the general background of his religious doctrines are an extension of traditional Eastern Beliefs. The Church of Scientology supposition of Hubbard fulfilling the Maitreya prophecy despite blatant contradictions between his teachings and the teachings of Buddha. Hubbard’s nietzschean form of enlightenment derived from one’s own willpower or self-determinism, which stands in opposition to the typical Buddhist interpretation of enlightenment, but corresponds with other New Age derivatives of Eastern Beliefs that promote similar concepts of the divine self.
Scientology’s concepts of death and reincarnation as compared to traditional Buddhist beliefs versus relevant New Age belief systems. Hubbard’s allegorical claims of “The Bridge to Total Freedom” crossing the abyss of human suffering in comparison to similar concepts in Blavatsky inspired belief systems.
Subsections v6.01.001 through v6.01.003 opens with the classic academic debunking of Scientology’s relationship with eastern religious traditions followed by examples of those claims from their own publications. Subsections v6.01.004 and 005 provides excerpts from L. Ron Hubbard’s basic doctrines of a person’s “Thetan” or soul being capable of supernatural abilities by applying Scientology philosophy. These introductory concepts lay the foundation for more advanced teachings of self-actualization where the ultimate goal of the pursuing Hubbard’s “Bridge” is to enable practitioners to regain their Thetan’s godlike powers. These lost abilities of a Thetan have allegedly been subverted throughout the course of their lifetimes from playing the “Game” of reincarnation that enables an immortal Thetan to take possession of multiple human bodies. Subsections v6.01.006 provides fully cited examples for many of the contradictory and controversial statements about Eastern Beliefs made by L. Ron Hubbard and the Church of Scientology. While subsections v6.01.007 through v6.01.009 reflect excerpted materials for examination of Hubbard’s claim to being the modern reincarnation of Buddha in the form of Maitreya (in Sanskrit) or Mettatya (in Pāli). Although modern day claimants for the title of Maitreya are nothing new, what is interesting in Hubbard’s version of making this claim is that the manner in which it has been portrayed closely parallels the Theosophy inspired claims of the modern day Maitreya being a “World Teacher” and all-inclusive messiah figure. These similar claims preceded Hubbard’s Mettaya conjecture by former Helena Blavatsky followers and Aleister Crowley contemporaries that adopted their own set of metaphysical beliefs such as Annie Besant, Benjamin Crème and Rudolf Steiner. Subsections v6.01.010 through v6.01.012 maps out a comparison of L. Ron Hubbard’s approach to shaping Scientology spiritual beliefs into a mechanism for expanding one’s mind geared toward seeking enlightenment via “The Bridge to Total Freedom” versus similar concepts of Buddhism spirituality and “The Noble Eightfold Path.” Subsection v6.01.013 provides a further look at how Scientology misinterprets traditional eastern theology surrounding the life and teachings of Buddha. While subsections v6.01.014 through 016 reflects additional materials for comparison on Hubbard’s approach to Thetan-empowering enlightenment or self-determined “Beingness” and how it radically differs from Buddhistic pursuits of enlightenment or “Bodhi.” Subsections v6.01.017 and v6.01.018 provides another comparison of L. Ron Hubbard’s spiritual beliefs surrounding death. Again, readily apparent parallels appear with other Blavatsky-inspired New Age beliefs underlying Neo-Buddhist interpretations of reincarnation and the westernized view of the cycle of life-anddeath being something other than a karmic evolution. Subsection v6.01.019 highlights yet another example of Scientology’s tendency to misconstrue traditional eastern religious beliefs by adopting the popular fiction account of “Shangri-La” over the actual spiritual mythology of Shambhala as it is known in Indic traditions. The concluding subsections v6.01.020 through v6.01.024 returns to the precepts of L. Ron Hubbard’s teachings regarding spiritual progress being a result of enabling one’s self-determinism as a form of enlightenment. Scientology claims these beliefs supersedes Buddha’s precepts of Nirvana and will bridge the abyss of darkness that Buddhists have no means of avoiding. Additional materials are also presented that shows these tenets of Scientology doctrine have a great deal of commonality with Thelema’s precepts of True Will and the path to enlightenment involving a personal vision quest through Aleister Crowley’s interpretation of Blavatsky’s prophetic ramblings on the existence of a spiritual abyss of darkness.
Subsequent volumes in this series will expand further on Scientology’s alleged connection to eastern religious traditions. However, this volume attempts to outline grounds for a basic prima facie classification that Hubbard’s flavor of spirituality has far more in common with New Age Gnostic Occultism that is a westernized derivative of Indic beliefs than it does with traditional eastern spirituality.
Volume VII Summary
Publication: http://www.scribd.com/doc/202056070/Scientology-Religiosity-Volume-VII This volume of the Scientology Religiosity? Series of research publications has been compiled as the final intermediate module for the middle segment in a larger body of materials. These volumes are assembled for educational purposes with an aim for supporting further study on basic points of comparison between Scientology principles of faith and the common beliefs of other religions. The enclosed subject matter examines the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard and the Church of Scientology relevant to the manner in which Hubbard re-engineered the concepts he developed as a “science of the mind” for Dianetics therapy into the applied religious philosophy of Scientology. Once complete, this re-branding included redefining his practices and the nature of his organization under the moniker of a “church” that promotes a form of eternal salvation contingent on repairing an adherents’ mental health deficiencies that result from traumatic incidents they endured in past lives. The platform for these revelations that redefined the early Dianetics movement was partially justified by Hubbard’s claim of being a modern-day reincarnation of the Maitreya Buddha with knowledge of the secrets of the universe that only he could reveal. Featured highlights include the following aspects of this New Religious Movement (NRM) system of beliefs as well as other similar religious beliefs for the sake of making a comparative analysis: The early marketing of Scientology’s beliefs being a religion for the space age with Hubbard’s credentials as a science-fiction writer being crafted into that of a scientist turned philosopher. The fundamental tenets of L. Ron Hubbard’s philosophy, the states of enlightenment that followers strive to achieve and how it surpasses any other previous philosophy. The personal empowerment or self-actualization aspects of the Scientology religion and the eastern spirituality tenets they were supposedly derived from. The propaganda and bull-baiting mechanisms used to enforce the legitimacy of the spiritual claims Hubbard devised and promoted as being factual rather than based on blind faith. The groundwork that was laid for the commercialization of L. Ron Hubbard’s applied philosophy by instilling a level of harmful coercive persuasion that fosters an “us versus them” mentality.
Subsections v7.01.001 and v7.01.002 demonstrates an early strategy of the Church of Scientology to present their religious beliefs in way that catered to the growing pop culture fascination with outer space while leveraging Hubbard’s popularity amongst science fiction enthusiasts. Subsections v7.01.003 through 005 provides a look at how L. Ron Hubbard personally defined his philosophy and how his practices have been related to the eastern traditions in regards to the study of universal truths that map out a path to enlightenment. Subsections v7.01.006 and v7.01.007 reflects how Hubbard’s pre-church Dianetics theories were adopted into his spiritual teachings and then used as springboard for re-defining rules that adherents are expected to apply to the world around them. These rules or “axioms” are some of the teachings behind Scientology’s motto
“knowing how to know” but can also be easily interpreted as rigid guidelines for defining how a Scientologist is conditioned to think. Subsections v7.01.008 through v7.01.011 expands on the correlations Scientology claims exist between their system of beliefs and eastern religions. With additional examples provided of the over-reaching generalizations that are often made in regards to the previously secret knowledge Hubbard laid out for his followers. Subsections v7.01.012 through v7.01.015 encapsulates a look at some of the more significant rewards the application of the Scientology’s practices is supposed to endow on followers in a given lifetime. This includes, amongst other things, multiple heightened states of existence and the ability to master a specialized form of positive thinking for using “postulates” and “intention” to achieve greatness. Subsections v7.01.016 and v7.01.017 returns to the ostentatious claim L. Ron Hubbard made in regards to his authority as a religious leader being legitimized by the ancient prophecy of a modern day reincarnation of the Buddha Maitreya who would return the lost knowledge of eastern beliefs to the world at large. Subsections v7.01.018 reflects the bigger picture of the end game to Hubbard’s spiritual practices where a “Thetan” can have god-like characteristics with the ability to create universes once they use Scientology processes to overcome the inherit aberration of the physical universe and the cumulative effect it has on their immortal psyche. Subsections v7.01.019 and v7.01.020 demonstrates additional ways the Scientology doctrine has been promoted over the decades to the general public. These examples reflect an interesting before-and-after snapshot in regards to the 1970s pop-culture example of church propaganda in subsection v7.01.001. This material shows how the promotion of Hubbard’s philosophy originally catered to the academic o scientific mindset, then played into the new age craze and eventually settled on the more mundane claim of being a mainstream set of beliefs comparable to any other major religion. Subsection v7.01.021 offers an example of Scientology’s exercises for developing a person’s ability to manipulate, control and confront others via their “Training Routines” or TRs. While subsection v7.01.022 explains how psychological techniques such as the TRs are employed on potential members in a way that can be so powerful that they can induce dramatic personality changes. Subsection v7.01.023 illustrates how L. Ron Hubbard applied his own philosophy to the world around him. The domineering worldview he advocated is one where Scientology principals are supposed to be a governing force that he defined as being “three feet back of the society’s head.” This represents an alarming perspective for a religious movement to condone when it is juxtaposed to one of the basic definitions of a philosophy being “the rational inquiry into the principles and truths of being, nature, knowledge, conduct, etc.” Subsection v7.01.024 closes with an academic debunking of Scientology’s claim to being a continuance of eastern beliefs and provides evidence contrary to Hubbard’s ideological myth of his role as a re-incarnated religious leader being something other than what he presented it as being.

Oh hai! What’s going on here? A Project Chanology research dox compilation project is currently underway (Summer-Fall 2011) to assemble & release fair usage info packs presenting excerpts from a large span of official Church of Scientology materials and related documentation. 17 U.S.C § 107 :: Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use
Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include — (1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes; (2) the nature of the copyrighted work; (3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and (4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work. ※※※ The following works is a fair usage compilation of source material excerpts, mostly copyrighted by some entity of the Church of Scientology corporate empire or other literary sources. The content of this publication is reproduced herein as copies strictly for nonprofit educational purposes in order to satisfy public interest in further scholarship, research, critical review and investigative journalism. Although the following collection of research materials may seem extensive at first glance, DMCA Reviewers should keep in mind that the Church of Scientology goes to great lengths to boast the following statistics in regards to the teachings and related works of L. Ron Hubbard. The top NY Times Best-selling authors write a best-selling book every 1-3 years—writing an average of 30 books tops in a lifetime. In his lifetime, L. Ron Hubbard wrote 554 fiction and nonfiction books, an average of 1 published book every month for 56 years—the equivalent of the lifetime work of 32 New York Times bestselling authors. L. Ron Hubbard has been awarded four Guinness World Records in the last three years including Most Published Works by a Single Author: 1,084 in 2006. Over 4.2 million pages of Hubbard's writings have been translated in the last 11 years alone compared to a total of 359,459 in the prior 50 years. Between the mid-1960s and early 1980s, and following from a greater geopolitical study of what most plagues this world, L. Ron Hubbard authored an extraordinary series of essays on “cultural inadequacies” of the late twentieth century. In testament to the first stands the full body of his life’s work, including some 12,000 writings and 3,000 tape-recorded lectures of Dianetics and Scientology.
Therefore, despite the extended length of reproduced sourced material in this compilation of excerpted documentation, when compared to the overall whole body of L. Ron Hubbard’s Scientology works – this entire series of publications is merely a small sampling of his publications that is well within the constraints of “fair use” as defined under Title 17 of the United States Code.
