Serve
During the past four years we have offered a plan whereby the family
- of a deceased person could purchase funeral merchandise at a saving
cf Fifty Per Cent from regular retail price.
This has proven to be a most satisfactory arrangement and a great sav
ing for the family of the deceased. And each and every patron was
more than pleased with this as to both prices and service.
vVe now offer -this plan to the public in a very simple form. You do
not have to buy any certificate of any kind and you are not out one
cent in money for anything.
Should death visit your home we offer our ser'dces and merchandise at
a discount of fifty per cent from regular retail selling price. The only
requirement is to be able to pay one half the regular price in cash.
Our Merchandise is marked in plain figures and marked as cheap as
anyone else who handles the same high grade of Merchandise that we
carry. From these marked prices you get fifty per cent discount.
Think of buying an American or any other make of Steel Vault for only
$50.00. Everyone else charges $100.00 for the same Vault. Embalming
regular price $20.00-our Cash Price is only $10.00. Caskets priced in
line with anyone else and you get them at one half what you would
pay elsewhere.
vVe can make these prices because we do not have any bad accounts
to lose and you do not have to pay for Merchandise that someone else
bought.
Ask some of your friends that have had the occasion to use our service,
what kind of saving they made.
Remember there is nothing to buy in the way of a contract to get these
prices. We do not charge extra for hearse service within fifty miles of
Martin, Tennessee.

County, Tennessee, is in reality the home of the
justly famous Nancy Hall Sweet Potato.
t Here it was that the late Esquire Will Hawks
of Gleason conceived the idea of kiln dried
J
Sweet Potatoes. As far as we can learn, it was
Mr. Hawks who builded the first Sweet Pota
to curing house. At that time little was known
of "firing" Sweet Potatoes.
The old plan of keeping them was a dug-out,
usually underneath a shed where the dirt was
not subject to moisture, using dirt as a covering
for the tubers. Over this was placed straw.
This antiquated method did preserve them un
til far into the winter. No grower produced
more than enough for family use.
However, the Hawks method of curing spread
rapidly. Soon, potato kilns sprang up over the
county. His plan, originat.ed by Mr. Hawks,
was to bin th' potatoes, with ten bushels or
more to the bin; a stove was placed inside the
frost-proof and firing kept up until the
potatoes were thoroughly cured. During severe
cold weather, the fires. were rekindled and the
houses kept above freezing point.
Hamper Manufacturer
Sponsors Big Premiums
The big, handsome premiums aggregating
$55.00, on best graded Sweet Potatoes exhibited
at the Festiv::d is made possible through the
generosity of Mr. R. A. Nants, Gleason hamper
manufacturer-a man who has demonstrated
time and ag?in his interest in the production
of Sweet Potatoes.
Mr. a pioneer in the manufacture of
veneer products. A sweet potato grower him
self, he knows just the kind of hamper to man
ufacture that will insure safe delivery of the
product to the dealer. Thus, he cheerfully
makes possible the huge premiums offered on
Sweet Potatoes at the Festival.
Mr. Nants was the first Nancy Hall grower
to market Sweet Potatoes on the Chicago mar
ket. Way back yonder he contracted with 84
farmers to grow sweet guaranteeing
them a stipulated price. These were all pro-·
duced in the Gleason area. Mr. Nants careful
ly selected the three car loads he sold on the
Chicago market. The result was that he receiv
ceived $2.50 per bushel for them.
But that was back in the days when we
marketed a strictly high-grade sweet potato.
And that is the chief objective of the Sweet
Potato Festival-the production and the mar
keting of strictly quality. If we will do this,
then the price will shoot skyward.
We Covet Your
Hearty Cooperation .
In inaugurating the Sweet Potato Festival,
,\ye of Dresden, Weakley County and West
Tennessee most earnestly covet your coopera
tion and good will. .
"\Yith a premium of $25.00 in cash offered
for the best graded hamper of Sweet Potatoes,
we believe we can say in advance that an array
of S'weet Potatoes will be exhibited at the Fes
tival that will excite the admiration of every
nerson visiting the Potato Festival.
. ::\ot only has it required a considerable sum
of monev to inaugurate this Festival, but cour
a
e
O"e and"a volume of hard, unselfish work com
bined. .
And we hope you will like our efforts to the
extent that next year we will have even a
greater degree of cooperation.
Lay aside the cares of .business and plan for
a day and spend it at the West Tennessee Sweet
Potato Festival. Bring the good wife and the
children with you. We know you will like the
exhibits.

During the past four years we have offered a plan whereby the family - of a deceased person could purchase funeral merchandise at a saving cf Fifty Per Cent from regular retail price. This has proven to be a most satisfactory arrangement and a great sav ing for the family of the deceased. And each and every patron was more than pleased with this as to both prices and service. vVe now offer -this plan to the public in a very simple form. You do not have to buy any certificate of any kind and you are not out one cent in money for anything. Should death visit your home we offer our ser'dces and merchandise at a discount of fifty per cent from regular retail selling price. The only requirement is to be able to pay one half the regular price in cash.

anyone else who handles the same high grade of Merchandise that we carry. From these marked prices you get fifty per cent discount. Think of buying an American or any other make of Steel Vault for only $50.00. Everyone else charges $100.00 for the same Vault. Embalming regular price $20.00-our Cash Price is only $10.00. Caskets priced in line with anyone else and you get them at one half what you would pay elsewhere. vVe can make these prices because we do not have any bad accounts to lose and you do not have to pay for Merchandise that someone else bought. Ask some of your friends that have had the occasion to use our service, what kind of saving they made. Remember there is nothing to buy in the way of a contract to get these prices. We do not charge extra for hearse service within fifty miles of Martin, Tennessee.
