Performance Gap Clayton County Public Schools opened their first building in 1859.

Now with 61 schools and over 49,000 students it is considered the 3rd largest school system in the state of Georgia.However, in August of 2008, the Southern Associates of Colleges and Schools (SACS) made the decision to revoke the districts accreditation. Making Clayton County the third school district in US history, since 1969, to loose accreditation. With much labor, stress, and reorganizing Clayton County provided the needed documentation and completed the necessary changes to have their accreditation fully reinstated in the Spring of 2011. The mission of Clayton County Public Schools is to be accountable for providing a globally competitive education that empowers students to achieve academic and personal goals and to become productive, responsible citizens. The vision of Clayton County Public Schools is to be a district of excellence preparing ALL students to successfully compete in a global economy. The Belief statements, they hope to reach y y y y y y y y Education is the shared responsibility of the home, the school, and the community. An involved parent will enhance the educational experience of every child. Communication and understanding among all stakeholders of our diverse community are essential to achieving the goals of education. Learning is most productive when the needs of each child are met through instruction provided by competent teachers. We believe that learning is a continuous process. A learning environment where children experience security, care, dignity, and respect is essential. We believe that children have first priority on all of our resources. Children must accept responsibility for their learning and improvement of their future.

Six strategic Goals Goal 1: To increase academic achievement for all students in clayton County Public Schools as evidence by state, national and international assessment results. Goal 2: To provide and maintain a safe, orderly and secure learning environment. Goal 3: To create an environment that promotes active engagement, accountability, and collaboration of all stakeholders to maximize student achievement.

Goal 4: To effectively communicate the system¶s vision and purpose and allow stakeholder involvement in an effort to build understanding and support. Goal 5: To provide high quality support services delivered on time and within budget to promote student academic success in the Clayton County Public Schools. Goal 6: To recruit and retain highly qualified and effective staff.

As of the 2010 data reports 44% of the students with disabilities graduated in Georgia with a standard diploma. The required Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Target is 80%. Clayton County had 39.9% to graduate with a standard diploma. Compared to the State Clayton County does not seem that far off, but national requirement show there is much need for improvement. Clayton¶s number one goal is to increase academic achievement for all students as evidence by state, national and international assessment results, and I feel we should begin with those who need the most help to reach their potential. Only 9.1 % of the student population are currently enrolled in the Special Education program, however another 39.6% are in an Early Intervention Program in an effort to subsidize learning needs before it is necessary for a Special Education referral. Our goal, in concordance with Clayton County Public Schools, is to increase academic achievement as evident by the state through the use of technology to increase performance and graduation rate among students with special needs. With a 40.1% gap between current graduation rate and the requirement, increased classroom performance will directly affect the success rate of students graduating with a standard diploma. This goal will be met with the integration of Ipads and standard based websites and hands on training.

With a state goal target of 63% placement in general education over 80% of the time Clayton County has 50.0%, which does not currently meet the requirements. 6.7% of students with disabilities dropped out in 2010, compared to the 5.5% state average.
