Shanti Mantras always end with three words of “Shanti” which suggests “Peace”. The reason behind speaking three times “Shanti” is to cool the surroundings and remove obstacles in three realms namely; “Physical” or Adhi-Bhautika, “Devine” or Adhi-Daivika and “Internal” or Adhyaatmika. These are called “Tapa-Traya” or three classes of troubles. When Shanti Mantras are recited, obstacles from these realms are believed to be pacified. Various Shanti Mantras from different Upanishads are as follows: “Om Poornamadah Poornamidam Poornat Poornamudachyate, Poornasya Poornamaadaya Poornamevavashishyate,:Om Shantih, Shantih, Shantih”

7.Seeing into darkness is clarity 8.Knowing how to yield is strength. 9.The mind is everything; what you think, you become. 10.You must be the change that you wish to see in the world 11.They must change often, who would be constant in happiness 12.Change is not something that we should fear. 13.Rather, it is something that we should welcome. 14.For without change, nothing in this world would ever grow or blossom, and no one in this world would ever move forward to become the person they’re meant to be. 15.Peace will not come out of a clash of arms but out of justice lived and done by unarmed nations in the face of odds

1.Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it 2.Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself 3.When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills 4.Knowing others is intelligence. Knowing yourself is true wisdom 5.When one experiences truth, the madness of finding fault with others disappears. 6.God dwells in the heart of all being, Arjuna, thy God dwells in thy heart. And his power of wonder moves all things - puppets in a play of shadows - whirling them onwards on the stream of times. Karma 4

16.Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now. 17.If not now, when? 18.No one is wise by birth, for wisdom results from one own’s efforts 19.Food brings benefit for some hours, clothes for some months but wisdom lasts as long as the mind itself. It is the foundation of a better society. 20.Love is patient and kind. It is not jealous nor conceited nor proud; love is not ill-mannered, it does not seek its own advantage and is not irritable. Love does not keep a record of wrong, is not happy with evil, but rejoice in the truth. Love is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope and to endure.

21.Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate 22.Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?” 23.Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God; your playing small doesn’t serve the world. 24.Who sees all being in his own self, and his own self in all beings, loses all fear 25.Our deepest fears are like dragons guarding our deepest treasure. 26.Expect nothing and the little you get will feel like millions 27.Perseverance furthers 28.Strong men know not despair Arjuna, for this wins them neither heaven nor earth 29.Nothing really worth having comes quickly and easily; If it did, I doubt that we would ever grow. 30.There are ways to learn what’s inside you. We have all cried for ourselves a little, that’s natural, but don’t let it go on for too long. That’s a child’s way. 31.One doesn’t become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. The latter procedure, however, is disagreeable, and therefore not popular. 32.Love is the extension of one self for another 33.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, today is a gift, that’s why they call it present... 34.Praise and blame, gain and loss, pleasure and sorrow come and go like the wind. To be happy, rest like a giant tree, in the midst of them all. 35.Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart 36.To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart 37.If someone betrays you once, it is his fault; if he betrays you twice, it is your fault. Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds discuss people. 38.Learn from the mistakes of others. You can’t live long enough to make them all yourself.

39.The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift. 40.A life whish is whole, noble and full of clarity is an imperative for survival. It is not a utopia nor a luxury, but a necessity 41.Life is like a game of cards. The hand that is dealt you represents determinism; the way you play is your own will. 42.Nowhere has the creator designed any gem other than women. For, this gem gives delight to men, when it is heard of, seen, touched or even remembered; for its sake are done meritorious deeds, and wealth amassed; and from that alone do men derive worldly pleasures and offspring. Such women are indeed the Goddesses of fortune living in mortal abodes. Hence they ought to be honored always with respect and wealth. 43.It is true that there is light in the end of every tunnel. But there need not be any light in the end if you blindly believe that you are in the tunnel 44.Better than the one who knows what is right is the one who loves what is right. 45.In your actions and in your conversation do no idle thing. Speak not idle talk neither gossip...and do not give way to evil behavior. 46.Life isn’t measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away. 47.Anyone who practices can obtain success in yoga but not one who is lazy. Constant practice alone is the secret of success. 48.The body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in. 49.Undisturbed calmness of mind is attained by cultivating friendliness toward the happy, compassion for the unhappy, delight in the virtuous, and indifference toward the wicked. 50.When the breath wanders the mind also is unsteady. But when the breath is calmed the mind too will be still, and the yogi achieves long life. Therefore, one should learn to control the breath. 51.Yoga exists in the world because everything is linked 52.Do your practice and all is coming 53.Before you’ve practiced, the theory is useless. After you’ve practiced, the theory is obvious. 54.This calm steadiness of the senses is called yoga. Then one should become watchful, becomes yoga comes and go

Without a second thought, the Brahmin’s wife threw the pot of water on the mongoose and the mongoose died as a result. -Swamiji Sri Selvam “Siddhar” Our life is a continuum of actions, reactions, karma, and their manifestations as events in our life! Many of us don’t understand how even “seemingly simple” and “relatively insignificant” activities of us can impact our Destiny. Just as a small seed has within it the potential to sprout out a majestic tree later, even our simplest deeds, or speech might have within them the potential to sprout out events of greater magnitude than we anticipate at the time of our speech/ actions. Magic of the subconscious mind and Reasonance with the Universal mind tend to get activated by many things that we do - consciously or unconsciously. That is why those who understand the power of words and deeds never do anything in vain, and are careful about their every step. Even jokes, humorous advertisements must have a positive message encoded in them, as even they can have their consequences.... One instance of a famous cricketer’s career hitting a trough

after an advertisement comes to my memory significantly in this regard...... A few years back, there was an advertisement from a famous soft-drinks company which featured prominent cricketers.

career path’s course , and whose appraisals can make or mar our progress, will somehow feel repulsed by us at work - inspite of our working well. They may be wondering as to why this is happening, but inexplicably they will feel irritable around persons who speak negatively behind their backs (whether they show it openly or not); such repressed or secret hostility can impact us. 2) When we say words like “it is my Fate that I have to be like this”- you are reinforcing a negative influence to the Universal Mind - in other words, you are sealing your Fate yourself in a negative way - with your own mind power, which should ideally be used for altering your Fate positively! 3) When we say words like “it might be a blessing to get fired from that job”, the Universal Mind begins to see ways how this can be accomplished....and when Pink slips start flying when the company downsizes, we may be among the first batch of “booted out comrades!” Please beware, the Universe is listening to you! And what you say - even casually - might impact your future, because, no one knows when our subconscious is active and when it is not; if words are uttered with intensity (either intense fear, intense anger, or intense hope), they do come true! So, make it a point to always “speak positive” in addition to being positive, and life will go out of its ways to spread its Red Carpet for you to walk the high road of success in life.

This Icon of Cricket was shown as saying “No” to the bat, and eagerly grabbing this soft-drink bottle, letting the other dummy bearing his resemblance to go and bat instead! Little would he have realized that a string of no-good performances might come in its wake..but so did it happen! The subtle message conveyed to the Universal Mind with that advert was “I am more interested in this softdrink than in my play” - though of course, the Icon did not realize it at that time. So, the Universal Mind did react by letting him sit in the stands often with the softdrinks for his company, while his beloved bat often seemed to betray him (he had a string of below-par performances which was in direct contrast to his generally consistent brilliance). It took quite a while for him to come out of that jinx! So, be careful even of your casual gestures. Don’t play or make fun of matters that involve your livelihood or profession. Even if you feel like joking regarding those, always end that with positive tones - like “There is only one thing that I love as much as my cricket bat - and that is (this softdrink bottle!)” - could have ensured that the negative luck involved in “refusing to take the bat” during that advert (even in jest) was not activated. Similarly, when we are stuck up in a job and are not satisfied with our bosses’ attitude, the best way to crib will be “I only wish that my bosses will take a more favorable view of my performances; How I wish they realize how much I am slogging here with all my heart!”...instead, most of us choose to portray and project negativity by saying things like “My Boss is a fraud; He keeps flashing tooth-paste smiles to cameras and reading my script while I slog in the background; it my Fate that I have to be like this; sometimes I feel it is a blessing to get fired from that job. 1) By law of Universal magnetism of minds, whenever we speak ill of someone, the other person will form a negative mindset about us - unconsciously. So, when we say negative things about the boss, the boss - who is the master of our

she would have to undertake the Karva Chauth fast under strict rituals, then only her husband would come top life. Thus, by strictly following all the rituals of Karva chauth, queen Veeravati relieved her husband. Thus the origin of this festival. Tradition of Karva Chauth A married woman who observes this vrat is called ‘Saubhagyavati’ (joyous and happy state of wifehood). “Let the offerings of this Karva (Karak (gift bring long life to my husband and may my saubhagya be everlasting”. And express such desire that ‘May my death precede that of my husband so that I can enter the chitaa (funeral pyre) as a bride (not as a widow). This katha (narrative) first took place between Siva and parvati. Siva told Parvati about the significance of Karva Chauth Vrat. In Dwapar Yuga, Draupadi asked Lord Krishna about the vrat of Karva Chauth. Thereafter, the very first time this vrat was observed in the town of Shukraprastha by Veeravati, the daughter of Vedsharma and Leelavati. Since then this vrat has been observed by married women till the present day. Importance of Karva Chauth The fast of Karva Chauth is of particular importance to Hindu women as they believe it ensures the well-being, prosperity and longevity of their husbands.

Karva Chauth - Fasting by the Married Hindu Woman for the well-being, prosperity and longevity of their husbands History of Karva Chauth A long long time ago, there lived a beautiful girl by the name of Veeravati. She was the only sister of her seven loving brothers, who was married to a king. On the occasion of the first Karva Chauth after her marriage, she went to her parents’ house. After sunrise, she observed a strict fast. However, the queen couldn’t stand the rigors of fasting and was desperately waiting for the moon to rise. The seven brothers, who loved her dearly, were very disturbed watching the distress of their sister and decided to end her fast by deceiving her. Then the brothers reflected a mirror through Pipal tree leaves. The sister, taken it as moonrise, broke the fast and took food. However, the moment the queen ate her dinner, she received the news that her husband, the king, was seriously ill. The queen rushed to her husband’s palace and on the way, she met Lord Shiva and his consort, Goddess Parvati. Parvati informed her that the king had died because the queen had broken her fast by watching a false moon. However, when the queen asked her for forgiveness, the goddess granted her the boon that the king would be revived. But to achieve this,

The festival of Karva Chauth provides an opportunity for all married women to get close to their in-laws. Possessing a tremendous social and cultural significance, this festival is celebrated by keeping fast, applying henna and exchange of gifts. Mother-in-laws buy ‘sargi’ for their daughter-in-laws. This ‘sargi’ consists of various types of sweetmeats, and sometime clothes. All these items are supposed to bring good luck to the women. There is great festivity on this day. Essentials of Karva Chauth The essentials of this gathering and listening of the Karva chauth story , a special mud pot, that is considered a symbol of lord Ganesha, a metal urn filled with water, flowers, idols of Ambika Gaur Mata, Goddess Parwati and some fruits, mathi and food grains. A part of this is offered to the deities and the storyteller. Karva Chauth has become more of a community festival. Karva Chauth is one such occasion when most married Hindu women in North India seek the blessings of God for their husband’s long life. Karva Chauth is observed on the fourth day of the dark fortnight of Ashwin, which is also called Kartik according to some calendars. Festival of Karva Chauth Karva Chauth falls about nine days before Diwali. It is the most important fast observed by Hindu women of North India. On this day married Hindu women offer prayers seeking the welfare, prosperity, and a long life of their husbands. Though it is a day marked with neither food nor water. Early in the morning they prepare food and have it before sunrise. The morning passes by in other festive activities like decorating hand and feet with heena, decorating the pooja thali and meeting friends and relatives. In the late afternoon women gather at a common place like temple or a garden or someone’s’ place who has arranged the pooja. An elderly lady or the pujarin narrates the legend of Karva Chauth. In the afternoon, mothers of newly wed girls give ‘Baya’ to the parents of their son-in-law. This Baya contains few Mathris, Almonds, and some gifts. The fast is broken once the moon is sighted and rituals of the day have been performed. At night when the moon appears, women break their fast after offering water to the moon. This festival is quite popular among the newly weds. A few days before the festival, markets are full of items needed for the festival. The preparations for this festival start a week in advance. The day of Karva Chauth is celebrated mostly amongst the entire North Indian community settled either in India and other parts of the world. The fast is unique perhaps because nowhere in the world does a wife go without food or water just to pray for the longevity and well-being of her husband.

Earlier an idol of Gaur Mata was made using earth and cowdung. Now just an idol of Goddess Parwati is kept. Every one lights an earthen lamp in their thalis while listening to the Karva story. Sindoor, incense sticks and rice are also kept in the thali. At this time the women wear heavy saris or chunries in red, pink or other bridal colors, and adorn themselves with all other symbols of a married women like, nose pin, tika, bindi, chonp, bangles, earrings etc. Once the moon rises, the women see its reflection in a thali of water, or through a dupatta or a sieve. They offer water to the moon and seek blessings. They pray for the safety, prosperity and long life of their husbands. If the husband is present, then worship him with Panchopchar or gandh, pushpa, dhoop, deep and naivedya (perfume, flower, incence, lamp and food). If the husband is away on travels, then offer a prayer to Almighy to grant long life to their husband. Thereafter bring the vrat to its conclusion.

Sun and Mars Its effect is on the right hand side corner of the house i.e., ‘aagney’ or igneous angle. On the right hand side window of Sun, if a stove is kept then it means that the owner of the house is impatient and flares up fast. One child of this family is capable and competent. In those houses where there are more than one stove for cooking the women of that house do not depend solely on the earnings of their husbands but they also earn to meet the other expenses of the household. Sun and Mercury If there is a hall next to the window, where guests or outsiders come and sit or members of the house rest there, in such a house one man is very educated and intelligent and everyone like him. Sun and Jupiter If there is a temple along side the window, then the head of the family is of religious views and his face glows. He gets name and fame in the society and this situation is very lucky for the eldest son. If there is a window on the right hand side and sun rays reach the temple straight then the head of the family gets respect. He is courageous by nature and religious and gives importance to truth. There is no difference between what he says and does. He gives respect to the women at an ordinary level and is a little arrogant. He gets respect, in government department. Many servants follow his orders and in which ever house he is born now, there are possibilities of taking rebirth in the same house and one of his sons is on a very good post. Sun and Venus If the room having the window on the right hand side is being used as a bedroom and sun rays directly come inside the room then the lady of the house faces problems at the time of child birth. By the side of this window if there is a room where the valuables of the family like money, jewellery or documents are kept or this is the bedroom of the owner of the family then such a person is very lucky and one of his sons is as lucky. But in such a family there are less of male children but one daughter of the family is also very lucky.

-Swamiji Sri Selvam “Siddhar” n the way the planet Sun, while looking from inside the house, represents the window on the right side of the main entrance, in the same manner other planets also represent other parts of the house. When the parts of the house influenced by other planets come in contact with the place influenced by the planet Sun then its effect on the members of the family is as given below:

Sun and Moon While coming out from the house if there is a window on the right side and there is underground water storage then it would be understood that the house owner remains out of the house a whole lot. He is in contact with many people and he is always on tour or that his son can attain success only at far off places. If the sun rays fall directly on this window then this is very lucky. If this window is of the kitchen then the lady of the house is of slightly stubborn behavior and troubles the family a bit.

Karma 39

Sun and Saturn In the same manner if there is a dining hall next to this window then the head of the family or his son is leisure loving and is moderately successful. If this room is being used as a store then the father or son are liked by the members of the society but he is leisure loving and slow worker. Such a person can be a government servant or gets benefited by the government. Sun and Rahu If a window is adjacent to the main entrance then the head of the family is troubled by enemies. He has to face defamation and government penalty. If there is a broken, worn out wall next to the right hand side window or the plaster is chipped off or the window is broken then the head of the family has to face loss of respect. He earns very less even after putting in a lot of hard work. Such a person remains poor and his father also faces difficulty in the same manner. If there is a car shed or car parking in this place then this is very unlucky for the father or his elder son. He has to face many difficulties. Such persons can get success only in works related to wheels or photography.

Sun and Ketu If there is a bathroom in this part of the window i.e., this window is the window of the bathroom then such person progresses tremendously in the spiritual area. If there is a gallery towards the window on the right hand side or people come and go from there or if there is a drain then it represents that the head of the family had to face many difficulties in the initial days of his life. He attains some success only later on. If this window is smaller than the other windows of the house and is always kept closed then this represents that the son to be born in the family will not be able to progress too much. The head of the family will also pass through acid test through out his life i.e., keep on facing difficulties. If there are doors of the temple and bathroom, respectively, next to this window then the head of the family is lucky. First of all deities of the family are worshipped in order to invoke their blessings. The sister performs aarti of her brother, applies tilak on his forehead and ties Rakhi, the sacred thread to his wrist while chanting holy verses- “Yena baddho Balee raajaa daanavendro mahaabalah tena twaam anubadhnaami rakshe maa chala maa chala”. This mantra means, “Similar to the rakhi tied to the mighty demon king, Bali, I am tying one on your wrist. Rakhi please do not abate but stay firm and determined”.

akhi 2011-The festivals of India portray celebration of relationships, their belongingness and oneness. A very special festival Raksha Bandhan is the celebration of a special bond between a sister and a brother. This festival, therefore, epitomizes love, affection and feeling of brotherhood. This Year Rakhi / Raksha Bandhan celebrates on Raksha Bandhan as the name suggests, signifies a bond of protection that is derived from raksha meaning protection and bandhan meaning bound. On this day of Shravan Purnima (full moon day of shravan month), sisters tie Rakhi, a sacred amulet made up of silky threads matted together in an appealing style and festooned with beads on their brothers’ wrist. It is a way of praying for their brothers’ good health, wealth, happiness and success. The brothers, likewise, promise to protect their sisters from danger or evil and also give them a token gift. This practice fortifies their protective bond against all ills and odds. Traditional celebration of the festival starts at the daybreak. The rakhis and the sweets are bought and prepared generally before the Purnima. As per the tradition the family members get ready for the rituals early. They take a bath to purify mind and body before starting any preparations. The sisters prepare the thali for the pooja. It contains the rakhis, kumkum powder, rice grains, diya (an earthern or a metal lamp used for worshiping), incense sticks and sweets.

Another verse that finds its place during the ritual is the one in Punjabi- “Suraj shakhan chhodian, Mooli chhodia beej Behen ne rakhi bandhi / Bhai tu chir jug jee”. This one means, “The sun spreads out its sunlight, the radish spreads its seeds, your sister is tying the rakhi to you, dear brother may you live long.” The sister then offers sweets to his brother and the brother in turn blesses the sister and vows to take care of her and stand by her through thick and thin. The brother also gives a gift to her as a token of his acknowledgement, love and affection. Nowhere other than India such extraordinary festival marking celebration of brother- sister relationship is celebrated with fervor, devotion and zeal. This practice followed by almost every Indian has been into the existence from past so many centuries. The rich Indian Mythology provides different religious reasons to celebrate the day. This festival finds a mention in most of the epics and its origin can be traced back to Hindu folklore. It is said that Yamuna, the sister of Yama, the lord of death used to tie rakhi to his brother’s wrist on every Shravan Purnima. The legend says that once Indra, the Pauranic King of the Heavens, while warring with the Demon King Bali was confronted with reverses. Humbled, he sought after the advice of Brihaspati, the Guru of the Gods. On the auspicious occasion of Shravan Poornima, Indrani, the wife of Indra, tied talisman popularly known as Raksha on Indra’s wrist. Consequently, Indra bested King Bali and re-established sovereignty over his celestial abode. This signifies that Rakhi has been an un-maligned prayer for goodwill and protection. It symbolizes values that embody various relationships even encompassing sibling relations. That is, it personifies that raksha bandhan is not only meant for siblings, but for safety of any loved one. It could be tied by wife, a daughter or mother. The main primordial occurrence refers to the invasion of Alexander the Great during 300 B.C. It is said that Puru was a mighty Indian king. Alexander of Macedonia had to face a great resistance from him. Worried about her husband’s safety, Alexander’s wife seeked audience with King Puru. She requested him to accept her as his sister. Puru obliged her and promised not to harm Alexander. And when the opportunity came during the war, he refrained from Alexander. The Rakhi on Puru’s hand is said to be the savior of Alexander. During the medieval era,

(Extract from Swamiji’s Satsang ) Om Namashivaya!! I know that when I talk about meditation you expect me to tell you how to sit in a certain position and you want me to give you complicated breathing techniques. I am a simple man. I just like to encourage you to first spiritualize your day from waking to sleeping. I like you to always be working on yourself to make yourself go higher and higher in an inner sense. I also like to encourage devotees to do three or four short meditations a day when they feel ready to start formal meditation. Sit for fifteen minutes in your shrine or make a special place for meditation. Sit in a way that is comfortable for your body or carefully train it (without strain) to adopt a traditional meditation posture such as the half-lotus, if you wish. Now you should cut off mentally from all that is going on outside you. I am not saying that you have to search for a silent place to meditate. I know you will use this as an excuse not to meditate. Realize that the silent place you are searching for is already there inside you. You have to go there. When you sit, observe the restlessness of the mind! Why does your mind run from one subject to another? This is because it has been involved for so long in the matters of the material world. There are many memories in your mind disturbing you. Let the mind run for a month. Let it become exhausted. Observe what it does. Having watched its ways and studied them you are better armed to control and reduce their hold over you. Be self-confident and trust in yourself that what you are doing is correct. Have faith in the words and ways of your teacher. Try to increase your devotion to the Divine and pray that you may come closer and closer to that great energy through your meditation. Detach the mind from externals. It is more difficult, however, to cut off from what is going on internally. You see, the mind is normally absorbed in thoughts, but only mildly. You are not always aware of it, but the mind is constantly at work. When you see any object, person, scene or event, the thought process is going on in connection with that subject. Then, when you first sit for meditation, you recall to mind experiences and impressions with a disturbing sharpness. Do not think this is wrong. It is natural in the beginning. Suddenly you may find your mind really concentrating on what you want for dinner. At least you are practising being mindful. You are thinking of only one subject, which is a vast improvement on rapidly jumping from one subject to another! Every action can be a meditation. You should understand that the body can be active and yet you can fully involve and immerse the mind in Divinity. If you sit and close your eyes you should not allow your mind to wander outside. Keep your mind inside and, after some practice, you will slowly realize the best way for you to meditate. Train yourself to end thought. When the mind asks what it wants for dinner put a meal timetable in front of it. Then ask it what it wants to know next. The mind will start to feel ashamed because it only wants to know about food when it is supposed to be meditating. Warn the mind not to think about these unnecessary matters. Suddenly a really disturbing sound comes from outside! Children are shouting and playing loudly outside. What! You have just brought the wandering mind under control and now this awful noise comes to disturb it again. Firmly tell the mind, “You have listened to all sorts of rubbish and gossip all these years. Ignore the shouting! After all they are only pure-hearted children enjoying themselves. It doesn’t matter.” Again the mind settles down and becomes calm and then....It is early morning and the jasmine flowers in the gardens suddenly burst into bloom sending sweet smells to the nose. The nose becomes lost in the lovely fragrance and the mind follows because it enjoys such a nice perfume....... How, practically, can you overcome the various obstacles that appear to disturb your concentration? First, be aware of your external environment and then slowly mentally close off from it. Shut out the externals one by one. You can work out a little routine which suits what disturbs you in particular. Second, think of your body - your hands, arms, torso, legs, etc. Third, come to rest your thought in the mind, concentrating on a place (such as between the eyebrows) or on the heart. Fourth, restrain your mind from running away from your chosen place. Always bring your concentration back to your chosen place. Fifth, the mind will gradually become still. Rest in that stillness and become one with it. Now you are there you can touch the Divine. Do not hurry. Achieve these stages little by little. Do short but regular practice. The mind constantly involves itself in worldly matters and objects of desire. The best exercise is to train it. Establish the mind in something much loftier than the world. Keep a symbol of Divinity always in your thoughts. This can be a form of God or a quality such as pure love or compassion. Some people have much devotion for their spiritual master. They keep the form of the master in mind. That is also good. The main point of this exercise is that you should lose your awareness of your mundane ego-self and replace those thoughts with purer and higher ones.

longings but only in a spiritual or religious way. Try to turn away from the sense gratifications that lead you off the spiritual path. The demands of the senses reduce your capacity to meditate and control your mind. I advise you to practise self-enquiry alone. Try not to discuss your inner practice with others. This is a secret matter. Your senses may be a little crazy and wild. They do not benefit from being discussed in company. Deal with them secretly and sincerely. This will lead you to true self-knowledge and you will build up your self-confidence. In spirituality it is better not to discuss innermost things even with your life partner. It is good, however, to discuss them with your spiritual master and follow his advice. That is why I advise you not to read too many philosophical books because different writers and teachers follow their own personal methods. I encourage you to study yourself by yourself. I want you to know how your senses work and then work out how you are going to deal with them with your master. You can then calmly follow your inner way individually and steadily. Mature yourself naturally to a high level. It is not possible to do this if you do not yet understand your feelings and reactions to different life situations. Nearly everyone enjoys the senses for selfish reasons and personal enjoyment. I suggest that you try to turn your individual tendencies to common use by giving some kind of service to others. Your master knows your character better than you do. He or she can definitely guide you towards the correct service activity that is most suited to you. I advise you not to try self-enquiry and meditation if you are very upset or angry. Leave it a little while. If you do anything when you are full of emotion and tension I can guarantee that nothing will work out well. The secret here is to calm down and wait until your over-emotional feelings settle down. You cannot see anything clearly when the mind is disturbed. If you try to reason at these times you will make a mistake and you may get very badly hurt. Let the mind race around and watch it. The mind will dash all over the place wildly and then it will get exhausted and sadly let go of running. After you can analyze what happened to you and how to prevent it happening again. None of you is at a low level. Each of you has come to a higher stage. It is not good to depress yourself by thinking you are at a low spiritual level. Each of you is capable of progressing a great distance in this life. Do not think you are inferior. Small problems upset you and you feel you are not progressing. Please get rid of these thoughts. They are hindrances to your progression. Doubts bring you down. You are reaching for the heights so why should you come down? Go on higher. Go up. If you go up you will then fear that you will fall down. At that time of doubt during your meditation you release your hold and you fall. That is why I tell you to have faith, hold on and go up. I will be there to take you farther and farther. When the mind is still, one may begin to experience divine music, inner light or ambrosial tastes within. I do not know the tastes of the world. I only know the taste of God. I am happy with that. I have no problems at all. I want you to reach this stage through your meditation. If I am within you and you keep me within your mind and heart then your meditation will flourish quickly. Om Shanthi

It is not really at all difficult to control your mind. The main question is, are you ready? You must be ready to know your mind. Ask yourself at a very deep level, “Am I truly ready to control my mind?” Touch your heart and ask yourself this question. Affirm to yourself that you are ready to undertake the spiritual path. Take hold of your heart in a spiritual sense. Do it sincerely, not merely on the surface. Go down deep within your heart and say, “Now I am ready to walk the spiritual way.” If you really do that you will find that your entire mind will transform. Feel, feel, feel this important vow way down inside your soul. Only in a strong state of emotion does the mind join the Self. Don’t bind to anything outside you. Bind yourself to your Self - your true reality. If you want to seriously meditate slowly disentangle yourself from the web of the world. Slowly let go of worldliness, money, sex - all these take you away from the higher level of life. I wish to push every one of you higher. I do not want just to tell you beautiful words to make you meditate. I do not want to pamper you. Nothing permanent can come from pampering. That will not make you want to see the truth. Then I will have to dance to your tune in order to please you. If you are sure you want to meditate, you must dance to the divine tune. The worldly and the spiritual dances are different. If you are ready to dance the spiritual dance I will come and dance with you personally! Don’t get scared saying the ground is uneven and you cannot dance to the divine tune. You always find excuses because you are frightened. Don’t be frightened to go into deep meditation. When one is able to sufficiently still the thoughts, the awareness of ‘I’ seems to diminish. This is not an illusion. It is natural for these kind of things to happen when a person leads a life of regular meditation. It is always good if this happens. It is good that there is a reduction of ‘I’. There may be fears accompanying this feeling. However, you need not fear. It is a benefit. I always stress that you need self-confidence to meditate. Do not compare yourself with others. Each one is at a different level. The senses speak differently to each person. Your senses are completely individual and do not resemble those of another. Take notes on your own five senses and find out what are your tendencies and preferences. Try to satisfy the senses to stop their

Malefic Sun – Reason & Prevention In Vedic Astrology, Sun has great significance and occupies the central place amongst the Navagrahas. If sun is malefic in the kundali and one is badly affected by the karkatawas of Sun likeheart problems, eye diseases, stomach diseases, Bones diseases, loss of position etc, then one must donate Jaggery, Wheat, Red colored Copper and perform Yagya Homas which are considered auspicious. Sun is incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Sacred Harivansh Purana describes that by reading Harivansh Purana, the malefic effect of sun are removed. According to Lal Kitab One, who has strong Sun in Kundali, eats less salt. In other words – a person takes more salt in food whose Sun is weak in birth chart. Generally, Sun is regarded inauspicious in seventh house. The reason behind this theory is that, in kalpurush kundali Libra Rashi falls in seventh house. Libra is the sign where Sun gets debilitated. If one suffers due to Sun’s position in Seventh house some remedies should be performed to cast off the malefic effects caused by it. One should sprinkle milk over the fire on which the meal for the night is cooked to make the fire lit off.

The main idea behind this remedy suggests that Sun has fire which could be calm down by the help of its friend Moon in form of sprinkling milk. The other remedy is which is suggested by Lal Kitab that one must consume sweets first, and then drink water. As according to it Mars is associated with sweet honey. The use of water and sweet, which is mentioned above signifies that one may take help of Moon and Mars who are Sun’s friends as remedial measures to cast away the negative influences caused by malefic Sun placed in seventh house. If malefic Sun is placed in tenth house (profession house), One’s career and profession gets affected. In that case – cast a copper coin in flowing water as it removes doshas of malefic Sun. This remedy again emphasizes the principle to donate metal which is associated with the inauspicious planet. Copper and gold metals associate with Sun. Immersing a thing into the flowing water signifies immersing our sorrows & miseries in the water and flow them away. If Sun and Saturn join together in the seventh house of kundali , spouse health gets affected , in that case donation of Jawar equal to weight of the native shall be beneficial. In other situation, if Sun & Saturn are placed together in a sign and strong Sun combusts Saturn and its karkatwas – like house, business etcin that case donation of the articles of Sun like – wheat, gold, copper, jaggery (Gud) shall give relief. But in contrast to this, if Sun becomes weak due its association with Saturn and Sun’s Karakatwas like promotion, health, position, prestige, gold are affected, in that case donation of Saturn articles like – Iron, Oil, almonds is auspicious. Association of Sun & Rahu in the Kundali, eclipses the Sun and destroys karkatawas of Sun. In that case, inauspicious can be removed by immersing Rahu’s articles like coal, mustard in the flowing water. Imagine what the world would be without the trees? Trees have always been considered sacred in all the religions. In the Upnishads and Vedas there are instances of people worshipping trees. Even the God and goddesses have high regards for the trees. Among all the trees the PEEPAL tree holds a very important place and even today is worshipped throughout the country. In ancient times trees were the only means to fulfil all the entire needs of humans. But in today’s materialistic world, when people want to have all the comforts and have made the concrete houses for themselves with all the facilities attached, the trees are loosing respect and honour. One should not forget the role of trees in the life. We can not abandon nature, the trees, the vegetation, and the flora and fauna because we require them for our sustenance, they are our saviour.

medicine works and the person is about to die. In this condition without telling anyone(Secrecy should be maintained) take two twigs of peepal tree (of 4 fingers length) peel them with a knife and put these twigs near the ears of the patient of both sides, keep holding them tightly, because the poison in patient’s body pulls the Jadi and Jadi Pulls the poison. If the hold is not tight the Jadi may go inside the skin or in the ear of the patient and with the mere touch of Jadi the patient will start crying. When all the poison is sucked by the Jadi it stops working. Peepal Jadi can be kept for long by drying it up in the sun light and can be used in the time of need. Anything which is endowed with good qualities is respected. Take for example - a tulsi plant . This small plant is not only the storehouse of so many medicinal properties but is capable to cast away the negative energy also. That is the reason every house grows a Tulsi plant and worship it with devotion everyday. Peepal is a big tree and can’t be grown in the house but this is sure that the roots, wood ,branches ,twigs, green leaves, dry leaves, every part of the tree is useful and helps to cure one or the other diseases. How Peepal tree works for different kinds of diseases? Jaundice- Cut the soft twigs of Peepal tree into thin shapes like a pencil and make a garland. Give this garland to wear to the jaundice patient. Within a week the jaundice cures completely. Night blindness or Ratondhi- Many people can not see in the night. Their vision starts blurring as the dusk takes over. But wait- Peepal can cure night blindness. Just take a twig of of peepal tree and with cow urine make a paste by rubbing it on the stone. Apply this paste 2 to 4 days in the eyes, the patient will feel relief. The fever caused by Malaria is also cured by chewing the wood of the tree regularly. Ear pain and deafness- Squeeze some fresh green leaves of Peepal tree, take out the juice and put it in the aching ear. The patient will get the instant relief. If applied regularly the deafness is also cured. Cough and asthma-Churn the dry leaves of Peepal tree. Sieve the powder into a thin cloth. Consume 5gm of this powder with honey every morning empty stomach. You will find the complete cure of cough and asthma. Infertility and impotency- Even the fruit of this tree has wonderful property to cure infertility in ladies and impotency in men. The fruits should be dried up in the sun. Make powder by churning the dried fruits and sieve. Consume 5gm of this powder with 250 gm of milk everyday. Irregular menstrual cycle- The ladies who are suffering with menstrual disorder and other related diseases must consume this powder with milk after the delivery. Cold and headache- By chewing the fresh green leaves of Peepal tree the patient feels instant relief in headache and if taken 3 to 4 days regularly cold is also completely cured.

Importance of Peepal Tree and its Medicinal benefits In this article we will throw light how Peepal tree is so important to us and about its Medicinal properties. The four trees –Peepal, Gooler, Banyan, and Pakad are called to be the storehouse of Sun’s rays. The wood of these trees is considered very auspicious for Havans in Indian scriptures. Peepal tree has been given the prime importance among all these trees and worshipped even today. The reason is right from the root to its leaves; the tree contains the medicinal values and cures many diseases. That was the reason our ancient sages recognized the importance of this tree and declared- “Peepal tree is the abode of Gods and Goddesses” the tree should never be harmed as our Trinity – Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh make their home on this sacred tree. In Bhagvad Gita, Lord Krishana called Peepal tree his own image- “Ashvathah Sarvvrikshanam”. The medicinal values of Peepal tree 1- If the leaves of the tree boiled with oil for some time and applied on the wound , the wound heals very fast. 2- The bark of Peepal tree is used for boils and acne. 3- The most important value of this wonderful tree is that , a person dying with snake bite can be cured and can get life. 4- In the villages, the villagers get all the information about the snake, its size, its species, place and reason of biting with the wood of this tree. They call it ‘Peepal Jadi. 5- Peepal Jadi works wonderfully in the situation when a person is bitten by the snake and poison spreads all over his body, no

If the first alphabet in a name is the one signified by the Moon sub-lord, he will be imaginative and sensitive. He will have sudden flights of fancy. This vibration is excellent for writers and other creative people. The downside of this is that the person will have great difficulty in coming to decisions as he has a two-pronged mind that runs in an often impractical and fanciful manner rather than in a logical manner. If the first alphabet in a name is the one signified by the sub-lord of the 3rd cusp, the native will enjoy success in public-relation fields. This ensures fast progress in life if the person is involved in transport, news-service, courier service, etc. If the first alphabet in a name is the one signified by the sub-lord of the 5th cusp or the Fortune, the person will be very lucky in life and will be able to attract goodwill of everyone. Again, though I have commented on Atharva Vedic Astrology-based approach for nameology, there are other methods also based on more traditional concepts of astrology – like fixing a lucky name that will stabilized the good yogas in the horoscope and neutralize negative potentials of the time of birth. In real-life situations, that is the approach I use in combination with the above mentioned technique. To put things in perspective, I use the techniques on a case-to-case basis to fit the requirements and objectives of the clients, which is what Atharva Vedic astronumerology is really about! Conclusion: Atharva Vedic numerology is an expert-domain subject and what I have suggested here is only for your guidance. This is based on my individual and unique research on this subject and the aim of the article is to remove the misconceptions prevalent in nameology throwing a light on what “real nameology” is about….. There are some persons who distort Indian names in the mistaken belief that they are giving negative vibes. Just to cite one example – I came across a client who has changed his name from “Narasimhan” to “Nerasimhan” because his nameologist has said the name “Narasimhan” has “Na” as initial sound; “Na” means “No” in common usage and so it is a negative name! Such absurdities should not be encouraged. When judging Indian names for nameological purposes, you should give importance to the vernacular significances of the name rather than going by combination of English alphabets which might seem to be negative! I am sure this article will be an eye-opener for nameology enthusiasts.
